AMD set the notebook price range already.
A4 - RM1500
A6 - RM1800
A8 - RM2100

Good price indeed.

Hopefully it is as fast as i5-2500 in gaming.
Woops, faster than i7 2600K in 3DMark.

AMD will release Black Edition APUs in Q4, A8-3870 and A6-3670. The stock clock speed of them is higher than A8-3850 and A6-3670 by 200MHz respectively, that is 3.1GHz, 2.8GHz.

Benchmark of A8-3870 Black Edition.
In the testing, A8-3870 was oced to 3.6GHz-4.2GHz, voltage was adjusted to 1.600-1.728v (Value from CPU-Z). The RAM, 4GB DDR3, was oc-ed to 2400-2500MHz.

With a good cooler and mobo, and decent BIOS setting, 5GHz A8-3870 on air cooling is not a problem.

Bus speed iwas same, but the multiplier was adjusted to 42x. Clock speed was simply reached 4.2GHz. CPU-Z showed 1.600v, but the K10stat (special tool for checking status of K10 architecture processor) showed 1.3375V. At that time, the processor used 9.406 seconds to finish Prime 32M (DDR3-1600MHz), while A8-3850 stock clock requires 14.5 seconds.

3.925GHz (175MHz x 25), P1930 in 3DMark.

Clock speed was lowered by 500MHz, 3.875GHz (155MHz x 25), 11822 in 3DMark06, yet another world record.

4.2GHz (150MHz x 28), 21101 in 3DMark. brows.gif

Apparently, mobile platform has become AMD's recent target. Relevant products are coming out earlier too.
In 2012, we will see new generation products, again, as usual. The attraction point is enhanced Bulldozer APU.

First, at the highest end, AMD added new flagship processor (New market line), codenamed Trinity.
The CPU is powered by enhanced Bulldozer core, Piledriver. It has 4 cores (2 modules). For the GPU part, it uses the VLIW4 architecture from HD6900. but the stream processors are still unknown. This flagship product's TDP will reach 60W. Sounds like it is ridiculous, but compared to Intel's flagship, it is only 5W higher. The increment is still acceptable, but for sure, it will have much stronger processor and graphical performance.

Next, A8-3500M, A6-3400M, A4-3300M will be replaced by Trinity, Weatherford, Richlard. They are still powered by 4 cores, 4 cores, and 2 cores respectively. Since they are based on Piledriver core, they will have 2 modules, 2 modules, 1 module respectively. The GPU are seperated into Highest Performance, High Performance, Mainstream. The difference is number of stream processors and clock speed. All processor is these series has 45W or 35W TDP, same with current APU.

E2-3200M will not evolve to Piledriver, but it uses enhanced Bobcat core instead. It is codednamed as Wichita, comes with 4 cores, discrete class GPU (Maybe using the high end VLIW5 architecture) and TDP is decreased to 20W.

Current Bobcat based low power E/C series processors will replaced by Wichita, Krishna, all powered by Enhanced Bobcat core. They comes with 2 cores, simpler GPU. TDP of them are 20W and 8W respectively. The earlier 1 is slightly increased, and the last one is decreased slightly.

Until now, no news on AMD's new APU will use what naming convention. If follow the trend, it will be Ax-4000. If not, B, D, F series ( rclxub.gif ).

AMD website revealed to-be-released APUs.

E2-3200's is targeted to replace current low end Sempron processors.
AMD will release A4-3420 APU in Q4. The spec is same with A4-3400, except the clock speed is increased to 2.9GHz.

Why the E2 on the desktop part is still 65w?  doh.gif AMD really need a killer HTPC platform. bobcat isnt good enough to be call flawless.

Just downclock the CPU and GPU.
Main reason behind there is the powerful GPU.

According to AMD's roadmap, Trinity APU uses FM2 socket.

Not sure if it is backward compatible, but I think so (follows AMD's trend).
You may miss some features.

Maybe it is for OEM market.
We have 4A then, AMD processor, AMD chipset mobo, AMD RAM, AMD GPU.
What's next? AMD PSU? biggrin.gif

just thinking, people keep saying most application cant fully utilize our current 4CORE CPU.
Is there any reason to even get 8CORE Bulldozer?

Hope someone fix this thinking of mine so that ill anticipating bulldozer release!

Bulldozer is good for multithreaded applications like rendering.
You can even open several game client (afk) without getting obvious performance hit.
user posted image
I'm wondering if the decode is able to seperate single threaded task to give both integer processors to handle the task.
If it can, then it is something like anti-hyper-threading. (Another core will help to process the thread if it is free)
Hyper-threading adds another extra thread to every core.
When the core is free, then the task from secondary thread will be processed.
It enhances the efficiency, but when the core is constantly loaded by task from primary thread, the task in secondary thread got no chance to be finished, it will cause performance to decrease.

According to some sources, AMD planned to bundle all-in-one water cooling solution with their 8 cores, FX-8000 series processor. That includes copper-based cpu clock, huge radiator with fans and more. But until now, there is no news whether it is for whole FX-8000 series or just highest end model (FX-8150). Also, no news on AMD to choose which manufacturer's solution.

The top model of Bulldozer is around 300 US dollar, while all-in-one water cooling solution costs around 60-70 US dollar. This shows the bundle is possible.

This action from AMD is to improve the Bulldozer processor's OC ability, also improves the image of itself from DIY-ers and enthusiasts.

Highlights drool.gif
- A6-3500 triple core.
- A6-3600/A8-3800 quad core with 65W TDP.
- Athlon x4 631X, Llano core without GPU. (What the? 2.6GHz with 100W TDP?). I think AMD rebrands CPU with failed GPU to it. Expecting mobo maker to make GPU unlocking. laugh.gif

AMD launches Triple Core APU
AMD APU can be said as a big success, because of decent performance IGP, so we can find it everywhere.
Today, AMD added new member for it's APU series, the triple core A6-3500.

Actually not only A6-3500, but also 4 cores A6-3600.
Compared with A6-3600, A6-3500 has less 1 core and less 1MB from L2(lack of 1 core).
The rest specifications are same. More, A6-3500 only has 65W TDP.
Price wise, A6-3500 only cost US dollar 89, converted to RM is around RM270.

Correction : A6-3500 has 3MB L2 Cache only.
