Yikes. I'm very disappointed with AMD after seeing this. sad.gif

Looks like I'm going to get i5 3570 instead after looking at this.

Do you suggest I wait for AMD to release anything?

if you are willing to wait, Intel's 4th Gen i-Core Series, Haswell will be released on Q2 2013.

AMD's 28nm Steamroller will only be released on 2014.. vmad.gif

Depend on your current hardware can re-use or not. Head here [Official] Rig Suggestion Thread V2[Official] AMD is quite good in GC department.

What's the disappointment about?. The APU is CPU+GPU which intended for those who not required a discreet GC, and suitable for those who want to built HTPC and basic gaming on tv set. Even A8 can run Lego Batman/Harry Porter/Star Wars on 1080P without a problem. Less fan less noise, put in on the VESA bracket on your tv and you have SmartTV.

Disappointed of what? The framerate might be lower but does that mean the game is unplayable? Of course not. The game he showed is not the game you want to play either so why worry? People just over exaggerate with graph to make AMD looks bad, truth is gameplay wise it still smooth. The game you wanted to play aren't that demanding either.

EDIT: The graph on anandtech shows the extreme CPU bottleneck, why? Because it uses low detail AND 1024x768 resolution! Nobody play games with 15 inch CRT resolution anymore. At higher resolution with same graphic card the performance should equal out because the bottleneck is shifted to GPU. Dont fall to the same trap salesperson at shop do to you

So, APUs are for movie and basic gaming? Will games like Sim City 5 and Sims 3 run on them?

So, the A10 will be able to handle Sim City 5 and Sims 3? Even FIFA too?

So all the statistics and graphs are just perception issues? So, as the resolution increases, the game will run smoother? Is that what you're saying? rclxub.gif

In low detail to medium setting to get acceptable FPS, if you don't want candy feature of game.

Of course not many game depend on CPU, many depend on GC, still if the user want to play CPU-bound game like Starcraft II and Skyrim you now know how to choose best processor from that review.

So, just out of curiosity, is the limitation because of the GC capabilities or the CPU capabilities?

The games you mentioned is far from demanding, you can Google to get an answer to that. Thing is, for your budget its better to go for FX + discrete GPU

It's not perception issue, that test are designed to do at low resolution and low detail which lead to CPU bottleneck. The performance won't become better at higher resolution at higher detail, but the performance difference between CPU will become less as the load shifted from CPU to GPU limited.

If you still doubt what AMD capable of, look here for AMD Trinity A6 5400K performance with Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Mafia II which is a far more demanding titles than your mentioned games above at fullHD resolution, does that looks jerky to you? It's not even top of the line APU to begin with.

Hmm... So it does seem that the APUs are not bad, for their prices.

Any reason why you suggest that proceed with FX + GC instead of A10?

How bout running an APU + GC? Would that be a good choice too?

There is nothing wrong going for A10 + discrete GPU, it's just what's the point of buying CPU with integrated GPU when you use a discrete one, pointless isn't it? You get better performance from getting better performing CPU with discrete cards. AMD APU in Malaysia is expensive to be honest, for the price of A10 5800K (RM499) you can get AMD FX 6200 which gives one more module, or two more cores totaling six core instead of four in A10, or for RM60 more you can get full on FX 8320 (RM559) with 4 module and 8 cores.

I see what you mean now.

Its financially more practical to get the FX series.

Thanks for the advice! icon_rolleyes.gif `

Again, depend on the game itself if CPU bound or GPU bound.

QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Dec 12 2012, 10:46 AM)
Lately, i observed that even some FPS games (e.g Far Cry 3) are now a little more taxing on the CPUs. I foresee that moving forward, we would start to see more games fully utilizing all four cores. Core i5 is really a much better option, if you really can afford to squeeze in the 20% extra. It would be able to last you longer, think about it. smile.gif
