Hello all, I'm wondering do any of you guys have any agency/agents contact for applying to do post-graduate studies in UK?

I'm planning to further my studies in UK, specifically London.

Setting aside the issue of education fees hike/barriers to enter UK for education has been increased, I would like to know is there any smoother route to study in UK.

Note: I'm not trying to use studies as a path to enter UK & work there. I'm solely planning to complete my masters there at the shortest time.

Thanks all! Advices/recommendations are welcome, perhaps criticism too. smile.gif

I did everything on my own, i mean application. Took me almost 8months in advance to research each uni and module that suits me. Post-grad focuses on a smaller scope which is very different from undergrad, if u get onto the wrong module that doesnt interest u, u will have a hard time completing it.
As long as u have all the financial stuff ready in the bank account, it wouldnt be hard for u to get a visa, that of course u must have an unconditional offer letter beforehand. Most post-grad in UK are only 12months which is the shortest, and u can try out graduate scheme after u get awarded.

8 months? Wow, you're a proactive person. smile.gif Oh well, I'm planning it now for next year June-Sep period leaving. You have got your point & have clearly in mind that what I'm going to pursue for my post-graduate. What makes me worried would be the meeting of entry requirement for certain university. Sigh, I heard many people saying don't worry about the stated entry requirements, for e.g. 3.5 CGPA and etc, because they would usually take you in. However, I'm not really convinced about them simply taking anyone in that can't meet their entry requirements.

Oh well, regarding the application of visa. I have another slight problem. For instance, I open a FD saving accounts now (December). And then, FD account don't usually have bank statements. If I'm applying the VISA on the August 2011, then how can I prove to them the monies has already been in the bank for the past 8/9 months? I don't know if this is a correct question being asked though.

Added on January 8, 2011, 2:26 amI would like to check with you all. I have came across people saying in order to apply for student visa got to show them the financial capability for at least 28 days right? So, for instance, the FD account is between the father & son, it got to need the birth certificate to prove this?

And, do we need to translate the birth cert to English during the Visa application?

Please advice. Thanks!

yes and yes, birth certificate is require and must be translated. wink.gif
While applying for British visa, the form require u to write in an estimate total amount which consist of full tuition fees and all living cost. Ur financial statement should be able to cover everything, and best to be over the estimated amount. I had a friend who got rejected due to the lack of RM400.

Visa application opens 3months before your course commence date.

Thank you very much for your kind reply. Appreciate it.
I will get my birth certificate to be translated before going applying the student visa.
For the total amount, I'm still calculating & the living cost for London is pretty hard to be estimated.
I'm sorry, cover everything as in cover tuition fees and living cost right. My question is living cost for the whole period while I'm studying there or only for certain months only?
doh.gif These British are really funny, RM400 is like GBP80+ and your friend got rejected. rclxub.gif
But anyway, thanks for the information & I shall take note of it. notworthy.gif

you don't have to estimate.....the requirement is gbp800/mth for london and 600 out of london, for 9 months (which is the actual academic year).....ie 7200 and 5400 respectively.....you only need to show funds for the 1st year.......

and of course your course fees for the 1st year, which is clearly shown in cas document from your uni......

you can avoid needing to translate the birth cert and letter from parent if the money is in your own account.......needs to be in the account for 30 days at least, as shown by a statement/bankbook dated not longer than 28 days before application.......
*
So, you mean I just have to show GBP7,200 (London) instead of showing then GBP800 x 12months = GBP9,600, since I'll only be there for a year.

I'm wondering is there such thing as showing more funds would made the student visa application to be easier approved.

Thanks for the reminder, all the bank statements still not yet process yet and will do few months before application.

Sheffield itself is the student city. It's not a campus so you get more choices of things around and you not need to stay in your room everyday. It's quite a friendly city to live in compared to more southern places, and because things are almost made for student, you'll fit in just nice. smile.gif
*
How do you compare London to Sheffield? If Sheffield is a student city, does that means living expenses & entertainment expenses would definitely much more lower compare to London?

students please note......

while it is not stated in their website so, british border agency now wants a cxr report(not the film) on first arrival for msians......

so get one done before you arrive...........otherwise they will do one for you on arrival, and charge for it, and delay your arrival process..........
*
What's CXR report? and can it be done at anywhere?

So, you mean we have to conduct the whatever test and get the report and get ourselves prepared before entering UK?

lol go to the website of the Universities that you are interested in. Most of them clearly state their requirements there.

sometimes I wonder how strict they follow the entry requirement or they would accept based on the number of applicants and the availability offered. hmm.gif

if the website stated 3.5 CGPA, then a person with 3.1 CGPA would it be strictly failed no matter what?

I graduated from bham so hopefully I could help you out on this.

£10k-15k is annual fee, you can pay by installments but for Bham they will give you about £500 discount if you make full payment. Engineering is about £10-11k

Living expenses: (monthly)

student rental - £250 to £300 (all bills inclusive)
Food - £200-250 (£150-£200 if you cook everyday and eat really basic meals) I eat out quite often..
Phone - ~£20-30 contract based

So roughly about £6k on top of your tuition fee per year.

If you work part time here, minimum wage £5.8 an hour.

Overall, a nice place to stay and many malaysians there to hang out too.

Checkout their website: www.masocbham.co.uk

There's also forum for Malaysian in UK: www.frommy.org

rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif I like your detail explanations!

I'm wondering why master courses for business area (i.e. Masters in Management, MBA, and etc) is costing much more expensive than engineering course. I've went through some of the business school in London, and the price range is within £18.5k - £24/25k! Oh gosh! I thought engineering courses are much more specialized and why would this happen? Have any thoughts about this?

I'm looking into doing master in UK, specifically London this coming September. I'm getting prepared for it and feel free to advice smile.gif Thanks a bunch! notworthy.gif

So, do you see much higher recognition for the universities or business schools in London compare to elsewhere in UK? hmm.gif I'm wondering.

Yeah, depending on your target. Anything under the top 10 is pretty darn easy, and it isn't that hard to get one from within the top 10 either. If everything is in place it isn't too difficult, especially for overseas students.
LOL I applied to Cass. They are known for certain courses and departments, especially for graduate courses, and claim to have strong links with industry and to have high rankings (in UK business school rankings). People claim they are fairly well known in Europe.

Fees, I have no idea, but they are relatively low, I think.

If you are considering Cass, may I know where else you have applied, and for what course?

Unfortunately I won't be attending Cass.
*
Cass isn't ranked within the Top 10 right? And, I'm only applying for Cass Business School because my core aim is to settled down in London. I wanted to go for Warwick Business School so much but then it is away from London and that's why I have canceled my mind and focus back in London.

I'm aiming to do Master in Management. Wanted to MBA but all of the universities also required working experience which I don't have any, yet.

Added on February 22, 2011, 9:48 pmHello people, setting aside the cost-of-living matters, does London really have better education quality or it's just the same anywhere and everywhere?
