I'm very interested in studying in the UK. I did some researching and most top universities require 3 A-level + 1 AS level when come to applying with UCAS. Anyone has any experience applying to good UK universities with only 3 subjects in A-levels?

I'm from July 2013 intake, going to take AS this May/June and finishing the course by Nov/Dec. I am very confused with the deadlines of UCAS application. Do I apply at the same time as Jan 2014 students or earlier?

For September 2015 intake, one may submit application between Sept 2014 and Feb/March 2015. smile.gif

Hey guys, besides A-Levels/STPM/IB. Does most unis in UK support diplomas? I'm planning to do Mechanical Eng. in the UK.

My worries are:
1) Can a diploma certificate help me attend a uni in the UK?
2) How do I know if the diploma certificate is accredited? Are all diploma certificates in this world the same?
3) If I'm going to do my degree abroad, is it possible for me to apply to the Board of Engineers Malaysia?
*
Yes, Diploma is also a pathway entering into Engineering Schools in UK, with a certain credit transfer.

Not all Diplomas are equal though.

Check with UK Engineering Schools you are considering ........ UTM Diploma in Mech. Eng used to be well accepted by

Scotland/England Engineering schools .....

not sure about it now though. sweat.gif

I've been considering Uni of Liverpool. I've checked their's website and it states that it's eligible for an international student to attend there with a Diploma with 3.2 CGPA. Since you said not all diplomas are equal, my main concern is how can I know such diploma cert. I'll get will be accepted to that university? Any private unis in Malaysia carry out diploma in mech. eng that could help me attend there?

What about enquiring TARC admission office on its Diploma in Technology (Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering) ?

...... if this fits you .....whether its Diploma meets your requirements.

Years ago I did come across ex-TARC graduates continuing their degree course in UK. smile.gif

So was graduates from Federal Institute of Technology (FIT) and Jaya Institute of Technology both from KL those days .

Graduates of Ungku Omar Polytechnic from Ipoh was accepted by UK engineering schools too .blush.gif

Should be fine. It should take at most 2 weeks for visa to be completed, unless there's some mistake when you fill in the form which cause the application to be rejected.

............................................................................................

Provided one meets the requirements of having bank FD/deposit of minimum 28 days of amount equivalent to 1 year tuition fees plus typical annual living expenses of GBP about 7200/9000 depending on location of uni .... tongue.gif

UK has about 135 universities out of which 20 are the prestigious and reputable ones.
they include Oxford, Cambridge, Kings College, Queen Mary, LSE, SOAS, UCL, Imperial College, Durham, Birmingham, Bristol, Warwick, Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton, Leicester, Exeter and Leeds.

the emerging unis that are trying to join the above unis are Bath, Sussex and a few others however as UK has a thing for tradition, perhaps it will take another 20 - 30 years before this two unis can be mentioned in the same breath as the unis mentioned above.

the rest of the unnamed unis are rubbish.
the good unis will have excellent student care. so you don't have to worry about a thing.
the important thing is to do your own research.
i don't think there's a lot of people on this forum that is qualified to advise you or others like you.

there's just so much to know about going to UK to study so it depends on what kind of questions you ask.
if i know about a particular area then I will share my experience and views with you here.
you need to understand that your role to go to UK is to study, get good grades and then get a good job.
the last thing you want to do is to worry and go through so much of nonsense and then you realize you're unprepared for the exams.

Quite an insight for most , if not all, of us here. notworthy.gif

Care to elaborate further major differences between the 20's and Others (which you harshly describe as 'rubbish') ?

What's your opinions on Queen's Belfast and Newcastle Vs the 20's , specifically in Medicines ?

Appreciate your comments ...... biggrin.gif

I studied in UK (4 years) before for my IGCSE years. then I returned due to financial issues. Now I'll be going back after I complete my A levels which I am doing locally.

I like UK very much. I see myself settling there permanently.
This is going to be long winded so please bear with me.
There will be no punishment as far as you are concerned. All you would have done is to inconvenience and deprive another student who actually has the finances and the grades to get into the uni due to you holding the offer.

Sebagai contoh. You applied to Queen Mary and you got an offer. Another student (lets call him John) also applied to Queen Mary but was rejected. Fast forward into the future, you may have the grades but you don't have the money to pay for the degree. But because you were given an offer, John would have chosen others unis to be his/her firm (example : Uni of Staffordshire) and insurance choices (example : Uni of Loughborough) since he was rejected by Queen Mary.

When results day comes along in August 2015 (A levels), John would have actually had the grades and the money to enter Queen Mary but because of you, he was rejected and so he will go to his firm choice which is Uni of Staffordshire. Queen Mary is not going to call him up and tell him that you (Keroroac) are unable to come to Queen Mary due to financial problems so now they will give John an offer to enter Queen Mary. It doesn't work this way in UK as far as UCAS or the Unis are concerned.

The only way for John to enter Queen Mary is for John to call them up on results day and ask if there are any places left for the course. (This phase which normally takes place in the last 2/3 weeks of August is known as the Clearing Stage). If Queen Mary says there are places for John, then he will email his results and Queen Mary will assess his offer and inform him of their decision whether to accept or reject him.

At the same time, certain newspapers will publish in print and also online on the number of available places for home and international places for most courses. So students from UK, Europe and all over the world will call the unis to enquire if they can get a place at that particular uni.

Great job , for the detailed explanation of scenarios . notworthy.gif

Personally , I feel Keroroac should have firmed the UK offer , whilst awaiting results on scholarship applications. smile.gif

I think you can do it if you go into medicine. Even as an international student, housemanship is guaranteed. Also, you can compete for specialist training post on equal basis with the local/EU students starting August this year.

Not too sure about other professions though...
*
Meaning it's relatively 'easier' than before to secure training post right ? sweat.gif

I guess it would be relatively easier since internationals from UK medical schools won't be subjected to Resident Labour Market Test for the speciality training. So, they would be considered in the first round of applications together with the locals since their sponsors for the tier 2 visa would automatically be under the Health Education England.

However, if they have decided to change to a different programme in the midst of it, they would be subjected to the RLMT again. smile.gif

Hi, mind elaborate on bold statement ?

Do you mean change in specialty programme ?

Am trying to understand your statement clearer . blush.gif

In a way , comes August this year , tier 2 visa is within easier reach for non-EU international med students right ?

Exam finishes on ? smile.gif
