yes, i am aware of this loophole and know people who has done this....and i understand the uk authorities are also wising up to this loophole...so i am not sure if it is still possible....all they need is to determine if the hk licence is indigenous or converted.....
*
Another thing you need to know is in the UK when you insure a vehicle you have list the people entitled to drive it. If you are not permitted to drive whatever vehicle which you are not a named driver. Insurance is expensive if you don't have a UK/EU driving licence. This is totally different from Malaysia where with a valid licence you can drive someone else's car so long the vehicle is insured.

The above don't apply to a rental vehicle.

Hi all, I have a lot of questions to asked even after reading the previous post I'm still not clear on many things on the bank issue

1. I were going to UK next month and i was kinds of worries about the bank issue cause i was unclear that u guys talking about the bank draft ......
question is: The bank draft is that issued by the local bank draft ? or you guys refer to the traveler cheque ?

2. If there any UK bank offer us to open oversea account ?

Hope that those who have experience can reply to my questions.. Thanks!
*
Most universities will have banks within their campuses to help and facilitate new students opening bank accounts. As your bank draft is drawn on a local UK clearing bank you should be able to use it to open a bank account and get a debit card.

Sorry for my stupidness. I'm wondering how you guys actually able to stuff in a rice cooker into check-in luggage? I'm thinking of bringing one too, but I don't think it will fit sad.gif
*
You can check in your rice cooker with its box as a separate item. Just ask the airline check-in desk to put a ' Fragile' label over it.

Is the a limit to the amount of cash/ bank draft we are allowed to carry into UK?
*
There is no limit. However, if you carrying cash (in any currency) equivalent to 10,000 euros or more you have to declare it to Customs under the Money Laundering Act.

There is no harm taking your MyKad with you. If you need to renew your passport at the Malaysian High Comm in London you will need your IC.

Choose the course then the university that is best for that course rather than first the university then the course.

Emirates cramp 10 seats abreast into their 777s....just make sure you are on their a380 flights....or just use mas non stop....the mas a380 is quite nice....
*
Emirates and Qatar only use A380s for the London- Dubai and London-Doha legs respectively. Emirates use 777s for the Dubai/KL leg while Qatar use A330s for Doha-KL.

I am disappointed with Eithad. On certain days they use JetAir's aircrafts for the KL/Abu Dhabi leg and not all Abu Dhabi -London route use A380s.

would take their rankings with a pinch of salt though. They have their own criteria in determining the rankings which is different from those of QS and THE. Which some may argue is a better way( more emphasis on student satisfaction than the let's say international student composure).

University of Coventry above Nottingham, Manchester etc ? It must be a joke.

Hi, i'm joining Strathclyde for MsC Electrical Engineering this coming Sep.

1/7 will be the "interview" for the visa application. Just to re-confirm the documents needed:

1) Passport
2) Uni Offer Letter
3) Documents: Transcript, Undergraduate Cert
4) TB Test Cert
5) Passport size photos with white background
6) Appointment Letter with Signed & Dated
7) *Bank Statement (ngam ngam cukup 28 days. From the previous post, I found that bank statement is not compulsory)

I have went through the posts but still hv some queries:

1) Did i still need to bring my old passport?

2) All documents needed to be 2 x photocopied, does it involves Passport & Appointment Letter? Some of my friends said that it is better to get all photocopied document certified, is it true?

3) I received my CAS through e-mail, shall the "electronic version of CAS" means that i could just print out the e-mail & submit it?

4) About the Immigration Health Surcharge, what exactly does it for? Do i need it for visa application or could i pay later?
*
The Health Surcharge is to enable you to use the National Health Service.

this applies to "settlement", akin to a pr....

the amount for eligibility for a tier 2 work visa remain currently at 20,800 quid....at current starting pay for most graduates, this excludes most jobs....which is why few international students manage to stay back after graduation....

Is this real ?

So fresh grad must leave the country asap?
*
Just a rhetoric from a minister trying to score points. In fact people of Javid's kind are the ones most likely to jump ship after their studies. I think the top universities would oppose the move.

Best to renew before you leave for the UK. If I'm not mistaken, you can drive in the UK for 12 months on your Malaysian licence, as a student.
*
If you are driving a private vehicle make sure you are covered under the owner's insurance policy. A vehicle hire company will automatically insures its customers. If you don't have a UK driving licence the insurance cover is going to be expensive.
