Oh believe me. I have so much more to share.
but the questions need to be posed to me.
only then can I answer.
anyone wants to know about mobile companies and which one to get?  brows.gif
Yes, it would be helpful if you could spare some of your time to explain about mobile companies in the UK.
Would really be useful for students flying there for the first time. I also have some other questions,

1. Between the major telco companies, which one would you recommend? Based on value for money, data coverage, or does that differ from place to place?

2. Bad experiences with any particular telco? (Dropped calls, poor customer service, etc.)

3. Speed, is it as fast as they claim it to be? And is unlimited data really unlimited?

4. Pay as you go or pay monthly?

Thanks smile.gif

hi boringbrick.

1) the best undoubtedly is Three mobile for a contract line.
click on the next line below.
Three Mobile Price Plan
you pay a one time fee of RM 107 for the phone and then,
eat all you can internet data for + 600 mins free calls = RM 204 per

Thanks for your input smile.gif

Unfortunately no, mech eng you're looking at GBP16-17k per year + GBP600-800 for accommodation and food. I'm in University of Leeds by the way.
I hear Leeds isn't too bad  whistling.gif Quite a lot of HELP students going into second and third year. (unless you want to aim very very high; probably Cambridge?)

Hi, I'm heading to University of Leeds this september, Chem Eng, maybe we can meet up then biggrin.gif

Well, I won't be recommending since I only stick to one from the day I stepped into UK. I am using Three, paying about £14-15 months. Bad thing about 3 here in Newcastle is that you don't get any coverage when you're underground! So if you take underground train, prepare some other things to do.

Other telco worth looking into is Giffgaff. A lot of my friends are using it. No contract and you top-up only when you want. Free unlimited internet. And they have coverage even in underground. Shame on 3.

about how much do your friends spend per month for unlimited internet on giffgaff?

Awesome! If you have any questions, do ask away!

Well since you asked, I do have a few things I would like to know about accommodations there hehe biggrin.gif

Are you staying at the university hostel or renting a place? If you're renting, could you advice me on the areas where students usually go for? Where are the places where there is a large Muslim (not necessarily Malaysian) community and Halal foods?

I've searched around in Gumtree, Parklane Properties at areas like Hyde Park, Cardigan Lane. I'm just looking around, I plan to look for a place when I actually get there, and see it for myself. Since you've been there for quite a while, I'm sure you're familiar with the places there, like dodgy places to steer clear of. unsure.gif

Ok time to start!

I see. I have friends going to Leeds as well (a few MechE too biggrin.gif ) so I'll probably be searching for a 6 bed house, most likely around Hyde Park/Woodsley Road as you suggested. Don't worry, I'm not going overseas to eat KFC/McD haha rolleyes.gif

Could you share some info about driving licence? Will I need to convert my license into International Driving Licence at JPJ to drive/rent a car there? Thanks!

At the visa centre, they'll ask you if you want to opt for the priority service. You pay in cash then and there
