Hi,newbie in here in overclocking,
I use q6600 and mobo p35ds3l.
Quick question,is it normal the vcore is drop during stressing?
Because using cpuz, the idle voltage is 1.23v eventhough in bios I manually set 1.275v.Then,during stress the voltage reading is 1.20v.
Is there tools that accurately read the vcore?

maybe something related to load line calibration. unsure.gif

It's normal
It's part of Intel specification laugh.gif
We call it vdrop and vdroop
Let me put your example:
Set=1.275V
Idle V=1.23V(Vdrop)
Load V=1.20V(Vdroop)
Get it?
*
Got it.but when I push the proc to 3 GHz then run prime 95,after several minutes, the core number 1 is failed the test.
it prompt message like this,"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.",
Any comment?During this, the vcore I set to 1.2815v if not mistaken.

Try to add vcore and see if it help??

Just change mobo, still run prime 95 at 3GHz,seems stable.
Vcore set to 1.2815v fsb 333MHz

Should be able to run lower vcore for 3ghz
*
you mean,at 3GHz,this proc can run at stock voltage?

Hi,I set to stock voltage which is for my mobo it detect at 1.275v.
And run prime 95 for about 4 hours it is still stable.
But,after I shutdown the pc,and switch off the power at plug,
Then when I want to turn on the pc, it behave like this,
When I push power button, the pc is on for several seconds and then shut off by itself,
Then after several second it will turn on back again and boot as normal.
It is normal?
Sorry if out of topic.
Thanks

seem not normal, it is everytime also like this? unsure.gif

only when I turn off the socket power,
If the socket power is turn on,it can boot normally.

then see whether increase vcore can solve this or not? unsure.gif

Same,for both condition,
It is only okay if I not overclock the proc.

It's normal
Happened to both of my LGA775 motherboard,Abit IP35 Pro and DFI LP DK P45 T2RS Plus
This is called Double Boot
Don't need to increase vcore sweat.gif

Fuuhhhhhh!!! sweat.gif sweat.gif
I thought the board is faulty or what,
Also thought the bios is corrupt and flash with new bios.

Hey guys I was just wondering how high I should overclock my CPU speed. Since I'm a beginner I'm not so sure @@"

Motherboard : GA-EP31-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core2Duo E6300
Memory: Corsair XMS2 DHX -- 2GB Dual Channel
Intel Factory Heatsink

Also about VCore is there a formula to determine or just trial and error?
Thanks for the reply!

Hi,I am also newbie,
look at your spec, first you need to change yours cooler since the stock cooler performance is already poor at stock condition.
then, your psu must be solid, I got experience overclock using cap ayam psu and the board is broke.
For the vcore, every chip is different (correct me if i am wrong) and the reason to tweak the vcore is to archive stability at during overclock at high frequency if the stock vcore is not stable.
and, during overclock what I read, we need to disable the power saving feature such as eist, thermal and sort of thing plus the vcore we manually enter.
Just some tips that i read in the internet.

Look for thermal management, EIST and C1E function within the bios and disable all these.

Then start to lower multi to x8 and up the cpu frequency (usually between 200/266/333) to higher value. Best way to enjoice high fsb and good proc speed.

Use good cpu cooler and ensure sufficient airflow within casing to cool mobo chips and also other power components. Good branded psu should b sufficient.

Why do we need to disable this option?
What will happen if we enable this option?
Next question,
which one more faster
example q6600 has 6-9 multiplier,

333*9= 3GHz FSB 1333MHz
or
375*8=3GHz FSB 1500MHz?

Does extension cable effecting vcore supply? Since i use it, FSB400 seems not stable even on 1.36V... sweat.gif
Last time can hit 412 with same vcore...
*
If the extension cable size is smaller than the psu cable I think maybe can effect.Did you check the cable,is it hot or not?

Yup. The size is smaller than original PSU cable. But i never check the cable temp yet...
*
If not mistake, small cable can't handle large current,
So maybe the cable bottleneck the current draw to your mobo.Usually the cable will become hot if it can't handle large current.

Thanks bro..

I maybe wrong, but try confirm back by exclude the extension cable.

Yaa...have to try & error sometimes.  tongue.gif
Btw, how far your QX can go bro? Worth to buy it~? Scared me with the price-tag even i know it's QX...
*
Just buy this proc,
need to find better cooler, since idle is at 36-40 and the temperature ramp up so fast if open an application.
But at stock speed, and run prime 95 the max temperature is 55C using Zalman CNPS9700.
I try crank up to 3.33GHz by adjusting the multiplier, max temperature is 60C same cooler.
But 3GHz is enough for now tongue.gif

Hi,
Why the reading is different?
[attachmentid=3048602]
I only increase the multiplier from 9 to 10 and the fsb is stock,at 333MHz.
Any comment?
This is not happen if the multiplier at stock which is at 9.
