Hi guys. I overclocked my C2D E6600 to 3.2GHz FSB:DRAM ratio 1:1. Idle temperature around ~65C and on 100% CPU load the temperature shoots up to ~90C. I'm on stock HSF though. Read on some forums mentioning it's best keeping operating temperature below 60C. What's the safe operating temperature for C2D E6600 ya? Thanks

Hi tkh_1001 and IcEMoCHa. Thanks for replying. I measure my temperature at stock 2.4GHz without overclock, my Core #1: 58, Core #2: 51 at idle. Previously the stock HSF was filled up with so thick of dust and it reduces airflow to the CPU. I have already cleaned it and the idle temperature is mentioned as 58C on Core #1 and 51C on Core #2.

Is this too high on stock HSF?

I'm using Gigabyte 965P-DS3. I checked on the upper left of the motherboard it's written Rev 1.0 sad.gif . What 3rd party cooler is suggested to overclock? I wanted to push my processor to at least 3.6GHz. Should be no problem as i'm using DDR2-800 5-5-5-18. Also, with 3rd party cooler installed, what is the max. temperature on both cores when stress test with Orthos? Is it possible to OC it to 3.6GHz stressing test with Orthos and the temperature ranges between 60C - 65C? Many thanks.

Edit
Sorry forget to mention i'm on stock 1.280v on vcore. If i overclocked it to @3.4GHz i need to at least pump 1.450v before it could boot up though.

Something is wrong. Your idle temperature shouldn't be so high, even using stock HSF. Furthermore, your vcore is only 1.28v...... Either your HSF is not in proper contact with your CPU or the thermal sensor in your CPU is defective. Try opening your side casing panel too. Show us a picture of your "Core temp" readings.....

If your idle temp is so high, you can't really overclock your CPU much higher.....

I googled E6600 B2 sspec and it stated the Thermal Specifaction is only 60.1°C. Is this TCaseMax?. Then it seems it's a very low rating then.

Since my temperature is so high, i'm planning to change the cooler. What cooler is best suggested? And also for thermal paste, Arctic Silver5 will do?

Thanks

Oh, yours is B2 stepping huh..... I have no experience with them so I don't think I can advise you on it.

That's idle temperature?  rclxub.gif However, again, the idle temperature shouldn't be that high.....

Yeah, Intel's thermal specification is TCaseMax.

Coolers would depend on your budget. Air cooling (my own suggestion):

Lots of $$$ - Thermalright IF-14
Some $$$ - Thermalright ultra 120 extreme (TRUE)
Best bang for buck - Xigmatek S1283 (vanilla version is enough)

You suggested me earlier on XIGMATEK HDT-S1283. It seems to be a winner there but i've seen the price tag wrongly sweat.gif. What do you think of XIGMATEK HDT-SD964?

my e6600 is also a B2 stepping if im not wrong last time i OCed to 3ghz on stock cooler, the idle temp is 45C and load temp is 62C.. and its quite hot.. hmm... maybe ur casing ventilation is bad or the ambient temp in ur casing is high... as for cooler get xigmatek... its the best bang for bucks...
Then it should be something wrong with my proc or the stock HSF not installed correctly. But i installed it firmly and it's not loose hmm.gif Only downside is i have not re-apply any thermal paste as i have none. But anyway, seriously considering getting the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283.

I'm using Gigabyte 965P-DS3 and i'm worried the NB heatsink will block the cooler and i can't install it as the height of the NB heatsink is quite tall. I measured the height using a ruler and it's approximately 3.4cm.

Anyone with XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 installed it on a GA-965P-DS3 before or is confirmed sure that it can be installed with no problems, please let me know notworthy.gif

Many thanks.

what about the ventilation inside ur casing?... is it good?..
*
Sorry for the late reply. I've just discharged from the hospital after an operation. I have a 12cm fan behind the casing and a 8cm fan opening on the side casing. Ventilation should be fine. Anyone knows if the Xigmatek Achilies S1284 comes with the SS kit?

Thanks
