Hi everyone,

Want to ask regarding upgrading RAM.
I own an ASUS A42JA with 4GB RAM (2 slots filled).
Where can I upgrade(6GB-8GB) my RAM? can I upgrade at a normal shop without voiding the warranty?
Let say I upgrade to 6GB(2GB+4GB), can I sell the unused 2GB stick?

Thanks.

@Lee and Gogo - I'm only worried about the warranty by ASUS.

Meaning when i send to warranty, the RAM can remain with the new RAM(without replacing it to its original RAM) is it?

Thanks guys

HDD and RAM is user replaceable, but Asus won't cover those replaced part since its not in their warranty, you will need to refer to each manufacturer if anything happen.

Ahhh... I see... That shouldn't be a problem I guess... As long as they can still accept the warranty for other parts, should be fine with me... thumbup.gif

Thanks again Lee. notworthy.gif

yes,you may do that provided you have to exchange back to standard harddisk when you send it for warrantymake sure you do it carefully without any physical damge example to the harddisk connector
*
Errr... You mean that we cannot actually sell the original harddisk?
They won't even accept the warranty even if it's not the harddisk faulty(eg proccessor) is it?

Now, I'm confused... rclxub.gif

no pt selling... since the HDD that came with the laptop is an OEM product, Seagate is not responsible for any warranty claims... the responsibility lies with Asus...

u can go ahead and change the HDD... juz replace with the original one when u need to get the laptop serviced...
*
You mean RAM also works the same way?
Because lee_what2004 said that I can sell the original RAM and still able to send the laptop with the new RAM to ASUS warranty, just that they will only service the rest of the parts except the RAM?

which is right? rclxub.gif

Both suggestion are correct.
1) Don't sell the original RAM. When you need to send your notebook to Asus service center for repair, switch the new RAM with old one. This way your new RAM not accidentally MIA.
2) Sell the original RAM. When you need to send your notebook to Asus service center for repair, just send it.

Thanks for the advice bro...
meaning no issue with the warranty rite?

Hi all,

Anyone here upgraded their ram to 6gb or 8gb without issue?

Tried 8gb(4gb x 2), it only detects 4gb.
Tried 6gb(4gb + 2gb),it only detects 2gb.

Cpu-z detect the whole stick, but windows 7 doesn't?
Bios also detect the correct amount.

Anyone please?

Thanks smile.gif

tried swopping places of the RAM?

Memory issue SOLVED.

Tried DDR 1066. IT WORKS!
Last time I tried 1333.

Phew.. The RAM is slower, but I won't mind as long as I can get 8GB to do my work! biggrin.gif

Maybe the DDR3 1333 module is faulty. If it is not, I recommend you to call Asus support.

Already emailed to their support... no response...
Just now I went to Asus Royal Club... said that they will get back to me once they know something... tongue.gif

Last time tried couple of time with the DDR 1333... no result at all...

So, I went again to lowyat and tried the 2x 4GB DDR 1066 Kingston... BAM! it detect all the 8GB...
So, I bought...
So, I'm Happy...

Happy Deepavali to all that celebrates! biggrin.gif

Here's a screenshot of my lappie running 2x ESX server, 1x vCenter, and 1x Virtual machine inside a virtual ESX... smile.gif

What do you mean? You didn't got stock/original A42JV? Why is that?
*
Probably he meant that it's hard to get an A42JV nowadays, with very limited stock.
