@gogo2, what is your HDD temperature? Is yours 5400RPM or 7200RPM? Mine 5400RPM. Actually both of my notebooks only have 5400RPM. I don't know if it will influence the temperature or not, just asking.  tongue.gif I'm planning to upgrade it to 7200RPM later. What do you prefer? WD?
*
i dun remember the HDD temperature...need to go home and check...it is 5400rpm...

i feel that 5400rpm and 7200rpm is not worth the upgrade unless you want to put in bigger hardisk...and as astria said,
7200rpm even more heat but I think its negligible...

I prefer WD because I only experience with WD and Seagate... so far, both WD and Seagate serve me well but statistically
nowaday Seagate hardisk failure rate is quite high among forumer... sweat.gif

my gf's a42ja plays sc2 smoothly at about 60 fps in high settings (battle) while mine is at about 40.. i think 5730 is slightly better than GT335m performance wise
*
well, the a42ja processor is same? coz i heard SC2 depend on processor more than gfx card...

A42Ja use 740QM...

however SC2 is optimized for dual core... so more core means nothing...
*
oh you're so wrong....

You think when running SC2, only SC2 is running?

Since SC2 is optimized for dual core, the other core is used for OS and system process while
the remaining 2 core can be optimumly used by SC2.... icon_idea.gif

If you mean it like that, then the i7 would only run at 1.7GHz sweat.gif

what u mean? sweat.gif

i7 740QM if run at 4 cores, it would run in 1.7GHz
only at 2 cores, it would turbo boost...

If by your definition, 2 cores for SC2, others for other resources, means it need to run at 4 cores, then it can't turbo boost, hence running SC2 in 1.7GHz?
*
well, can you confirm that SC2 running, only 2 core active? hmm.gif

Nah, no way, it should go back and forth from 1-2-4 cores in split of seconds..
*
then the frequency keep on changing? lol... i dun think so gua... later the system goes haywire... tongue.gif

Well, the turboboost should kick in depending on loads/thread, which means frequency keep changing...
*
agreed... but i would say the frequency change is not really split second... probably, it'll wait a while
and see.

the wait awhile for CPU is split second for human...

dun forget CPU count time in nanosecond...
*
lol.. probably you're right.... but anyway, I didn't update myself with Turbo Boost thingy.. so I'm not sure
exactly 100% how it'll work. Last time when I work in Intel, I'm part of verification team to verify Turbo
mode. tongue.gif

QUOTE(kizwan @ Oct 13 2010, 12:52 PM)
The calculation should be like this:-
Core i7-740QM
- Turbo 1/1/6/9
- First number is the multiple of 133.33 MHz supported when four cores are active, the second number is the multiple for three cores, the third number is for two cores, and the fourth number is for one active core.
- Normal operating frequency is 1.73 GHz = 1730 MHz
    * With 3 or 4 cores active: to 1.863 GHz —————> 1730 + 1 x 133.33 = 1730 + 133.33 ≃ 1863.33
    * With 2 cores active: to 2.529 GHz ———————> 1730 + 6 x 133.33 = 1730 + 799.98 ≃ 2529.98
    * With only 1 core active: to 2.929 GHz —————–> 1730 + 9 x 133.33 = 1730 + 1199.97 ≃ 2929.97

* When 4 cores active, the frequency is low (1.863 GHz) but remember it running 4 cores. 1.863 GHz 1 core vs 1.863 GHz 4 cores; the later performed much much better.

Quote from Intel website:-
*
if the software/game is written so perfect to use 2 core, then effectively the frequency double...

meaning, at 1.73ghz dual core x 2= 3.4GHz (effective)

No. Running on 2 cores will not double the processor frequency. The advantage of 2 cores vs 1 core is 2 cores can process two task simultaneously compared to 1 core which only can process 1 task at one time. It doesn't double the processor frequency.
*
shit... i know someone will misinterpret my statement...

come on la.. i no talking about double frequency. Only idiot will think like that.. omg.. i can't believe
you read my statement wrong...

I'm saying the efective result la adui...

well, theoratically yes, but in reality it's another case...

i ve tried running System Requirements Lab, and my T9550 is rated at 4.46GHz effective...
*
yeah, I'm just saying in theory, the performance is like doubling... but not in frequency..

QUOTE(kizwan @ Oct 13 2010, 04:38 PM)
You just wrote "frequency double" there. Aduii.... Funny, only stupid people call other people stupid. LOL

i say if I were to say the frequency is doubling, I'll be idiot. I did not call u stupid. Pls read properly la adui...

seems not much of discussion from N82 users....
Where are those Bamboo users?

my N82JV is working good after tweaking using 360degree (china freeware, but my friend said quite dangerous as it might kill those non genuine software).

The only issue still unsolved is the boot up problem if i plug in the USB HDD. It seems it spending time for very long to search for boot up.
*
N82 series is high end..haha... so less people using it....

hmm.gif never heard of 360degree...
