@gogo2, what is your HDD temperature? Is yours 5400RPM or 7200RPM? Mine 5400RPM. Actually both of my notebooks only have 5400RPM. I don't know if it will influence the temperature or not, just asking.  I'm planning to upgrade it to 7200RPM later. What do you prefer? WD?

my gf's a42ja plays sc2 smoothly at about 60 fps in high settings (battle) while mine is at about 40.. i think 5730 is slightly better than GT335m performance wise

however SC2 is optimized for dual core... so more core means nothing...

If you mean it like that, then the i7 would only run at 1.7GHz

If by your definition, 2 cores for SC2, others for other resources, means it need to run at 4 cores, then it can't turbo boost, hence running SC2 in 1.7GHz?

Nah, no way, it should go back and forth from 1-2-4 cores in split of seconds..

Well, the turboboost should kick in depending on loads/thread, which means frequency keep changing...

the wait awhile for CPU is split second for human...

dun forget CPU count time in nanosecond...

The calculation should be like this:-
Core i7-740QM
- Turbo 1/1/6/9
- First number is the multiple of 133.33 MHz supported when four cores are active, the second number is the multiple for three cores, the third number is for two cores, and the fourth number is for one active core.
- Normal operating frequency is 1.73 GHz = 1730 MHz
    * With 3 or 4 cores active: to 1.863 GHz —————> 1730 + 1 x 133.33 = 1730 + 133.33 ≃ 1863.33
    * With 2 cores active: to 2.529 GHz ———————> 1730 + 6 x 133.33 = 1730 + 799.98 ≃ 2529.98
    * With only 1 core active: to 2.929 GHz —————–> 1730 + 9 x 133.33 = 1730 + 1199.97 ≃ 2929.97

* When 4 cores active, the frequency is low (1.863 GHz) but remember it running 4 cores. 1.863 GHz 1 core vs 1.863 GHz 4 cores; the later performed much much better.

my N82JV is working good after tweaking using 360degree (china freeware, but my friend said quite dangerous as it might kill those non genuine software).

The only issue still unsolved is the boot up problem if i plug in the USB HDD. It seems it spending time for very long to search for boot up.

there was something wrong with my laptop.. everything just went changed to old windows theme. the processor was undetectable, as well as wifi card or lan card. even sound card was not connected. also the graphics. forcing me to format yet again. i dunno what happened

no.. i believe it is be the driver problem. i revert back to the old nvidia driver.

i reverted back to the old driver again..the same problem occured.. argh :-(
