QUOTE(CZero @ Oct 11 2010, 04:23 PM)
perhaps because i was running lots of background apps? and a 10+ tabbed browser?  sweat.gif

Means the nVidia is running? Is this in power saver? with lowest screen brightness? wifi or cable?
Flash is running?

Better use the statistical method to calculate the battery time, enable it in Option...

and if it keeps -18.8W, your battery would last around 2 hours...

Intel HD + power saver should be under -10W like the Asus U35Jc get -8.7W, which for A42jv's 44Wh battery, should be able to last 4 hours...

You don't even have much choice either, with long battery life means > 5 hours...
------------Under 4K-----------
Alienware M11x
Acer 4820TG

----------More than RM6K--------------
HP Envy 14 + battery slice
MBP 15
MBP 17

------Import-----------------
Lightest and best GPU you could get in 13.3''
Acer 3820TG + 9 cell

The best GPU you could get and also long battery life in 15''
Acer 5943G, i5 version, need to import from other country, MY only offer i7 and it don't have switchable GPU...

If Asus, Asus A42Ja, i7 740QM + ATi HD5730@RM3599
i5 is more than sufficient for most cases unless you really need that much calculation power...
By the time you need more, it might be the time to upgrade the notebook anyway....

But if want to get i5 with good GPU, Asus A42Jv just phased out...
Lower price than A42Ja, would be Lenovo Y460, i5 460M + GT425M@RM2999
Other option is go to the garage sales, there's one person import Asus N82Jv, i5 520M + nVidia GT335M@RM2999
Lower price than that, back to 4820TG laugh.gif

It is hard to achieve -10W on A42JV, at least mine. I was able to achieved -11W if I didn't touched it at all. If I check email & browsing I got between (average) -14W to -17W. I'm connected to internet through my mobile phone (usb).

It really sounds to me that the nVidia isn't really turned off, since that's the discharge rate I'm getting with SXPS 16, P8700 + ATi HD4670....

My thoughts exactly. The Nvidia GPU can be easily turned ON by any services or applications. I believe this can be fixed with BIOS update.

What about turn on globally as Intel, would that help?
