If u just want 2.1, why not just buy Altec Lansing or Sonic Gear speaker. More cheaper.
IMO, just get 5.1 before you regret later. You cannot get fully Dolby or DTS experience with 2.1 speaker. rolleyes.gif

please drop a piece of advice......
planning to get panasonic LVC 42u29k
at the same time, wanting to install home theater, most importanly, budget is the limiting factor. there's a catch, there is this option about viera-link where with a click of a button, u can control most of everything....is it worthwhile to get the same brand of HTIB or get others would be better?

seems that space is your concern, why not Sony soundbar, less that RM 1000. you got 3 HDMi in. within your budget and most of all, space saving.

I heard many comments that Panny HTiB is not good, can't decode DTS from Toslink input. Maybe someone can confirm.

When you guys buy HTIB of course its due to the nice looks, all in one features and good pricing.....and one day, you are going to hook a media player up to it.
and suddenly...no sound!

Why?...Panasonic doesn't decode DTS signals through its optical in......DTS is available only if you are using the DVDdisc.

Panasonic HTiB is a no no

Dun believe?...read this..taken from SC-PT580 manual book.
Not only PT580...but I think for all Panny HTiB can't decode DTS using Optical/toslink in

Philips OK..I've got 1 unit also....but if I'm not mistaken only 1 high end Philips model offers both Coaxial and Optical in...low end model are just coaxial in or nothing.

But if buy Philips HT get the one with extended warranty, nice died at 2 years, because there was a leakage in Current in my house (work of termites). The Philips circuit design is sensitive to this. Price to repair is Rm250. No, i didn't repair it, took it as an excuse to upgrade to bigger and better things smile.gif

Yes smile.gif ..i agree.

Seriously, I've listed to most of the HTiB around...most are just for bang - bang movies...if wanna play music, better get integrated amp instead of HTiB.
HTiB is like a noise maker laugh.gif ...serious

After second year using HTiB, you will demand to get AVR. Better save your budget and get AVR straight away.

Driving Ferrari at 60KmH is for 'makan angin' not to speeding. So you have a choice either to makan angin or speeding.
If you have kancil, you cannot speeding la tongue.gif

I agree but takes time to save for a decent receiver, five speakers and a subwoofer. Because if everything get entry level, after two years also will upgrade one by one.

So for me, get a HTiB then wait until can afford middle range stuff.

true, true... Last year I bought a pretty decent Pioneer HTIB system (that comes with 2 subs) that cost about less than RM1800. Recently, I went out to buy an entry level AVR system (from Yamaha) for about 3k or so, the difference is quite apparent, especially so after the ears get used to the HTIB and I suddenly listen to audio coming out from an AVR system. I gotta admit that I bought it because I was moving to a new place.. if I wasn't I'd still be using the HTIB system.

The ultimate one is to save up for a nice spanking system (probably 2 pc) just for listening to music but that would cost almost 10k sweat.gif

QUOTE(ikan_semilang @ Oct 21 2010, 04:41 PM)

not entirely true bro... even with an AVR with 5.1 (tallboys and stuff), you can listen without turning the speaker that loud... there's distinct clarity and SQ that can be enjoyed without maxing out the volume brows.gif I also think that a good quality sub creates a rather accurate rumble compared to normal ones you get in a HTIB

For me (personally lah), good audio/sound quality can be appreciated without turning things into a rave party tongue.gif
