Okay guys, I need some help overclocking... tried following some guides, but dont seem to work for me.

My specs:
A64 3000+ winchester with artic freezer 64
Mobo is Abit AN8 (bios 19)
Ram are dual channel mushkins (512 x 2) PC3200 with SPD showing 2.5-3-3-8 at 1T
Inno3D 7800GT
Pwr supply is Delta 450W
3 WD Sata harddisks
LG dvd/cd-rw combo.

Ok, so far what I have done initially is to change the HT to 3x, ddr to ddr333 and cpu multiplier to 8x. Ran super pi 1Meg at HTT 240mhz, no problem.. ran fine. But increase it slightly higher, and it fails. Tried increasing the cpu voltage, as well as ddrv and vht slightly, no go.
At 250mhz, it totally hang whereby either it hangs in windows, goes to black screen or reboots. Tried changing the HT to 1x still same results. At 250mhz htt, kaput.

Really need help on how to OC as I see most of you can get your a64 3000+ up to 2.4Ghz no problem. Temp is not an issue as I monitor it constantly. On idle cpu is at about 35C and about 40 on full load.

My 12v rail is at 12.05 idle, 12.11 at load. 5v rail is at about 5.12v most of the time and the 3.3v is at 3.42v most of d time. Dont really see them fluctuate.

So, can someone please tell me what's wrong? Is it the RAM? the only thing i can think of that's causing problems is the RAM. Either that, or its the voltages.

Btw, at the setting below, my system could run super pi 32M no problem. But slightly above that, and it starts giving out errors, windows starts to act funny.

Any kind of help/suggestion/advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!

hi.. well, i can set it up to 230mhz with 9x, but it wont be stable and fails super pi 32M. so the highest stable would be 220mhz at x9 multi (that passes super pi 32M, and also 3dmark06. so that's about 1980Mhz

em... sorry, i'm a big newbie... I've been tinkering in the bios for almost an hour now, but I can't find the 1T or 2T timing in bios. What exactly am i supposed to look for?

Found it! Didnt realise its called DRAM Command Rate. Anyway, tested earlier with 4x HT and 2T at 240Mhz I could run super pi 1M and 2M fine. but right after that, explorer starts crashing, IE crashes, abit crashes. Could this be due to voltage? kind of weird as it ran super pi just fine.

Yeah, 1M and 2M are not indications of stability until you run 32M. Usually what I do is that I first make sure that 1M and 2M runs fine, before proceeding to 32M. But in this case, when I closed super pi and before launching it again, explorer etc crashes. I don't have any other RAMs to test with, just these 2 sticks.

my vcore was at 1.5250 and DImm was at 2.80 (are they too high?). I based these values on the 'turbo' settings and upped them a little as when the voltages are at 'turbo', super pi 1M and 2M doesnt run at all.

Em earlier at 1T I did test with DDR333, but when i did the 2T it was still at DDR400. So are the voltages I applied 'ok' ? Are my rams lousy types? sorry that i dont have a sig.. ill try to get it done.

anyway.. wat's a good way to go about this? set cpu multi to 8x, then use high htt? (eg. 300mhz). at that speed, since my ram most likely cant cope, do i have to use DDR333 and 2T? will it impact my performance? does the higher cpu speed ofset this performance impact?

btw, how do i know which voltages to apply when it is not stable? do i apply to vht, vddr, cpu voltage, vnb ?

Update:
Changed to DDR333, 2T, HT at x3 as well as cpu multiplier x8. I could do super pi at 240mhz at 1M and 2M, but as soon as i notched it up to 245mhz bam! bluescreen. then blank screen and auto reboot. above 240mhz just doesnt work for my machine.. wats up?

Thanks.

Is this what you mean by stepping? Currently it's set at 'normal' using the OCGuru.
Yeah, I did try upping the voltage even up to 1.65. Still no go. I guess there most be a faulty component somewhere... sigh..

ahh.. sorry... ever since i got this thing, i had been trying to remove the artic freezer to clean it up.. but i've never been successful short of afraid i might crack d cpu itself.... tried unlatching, but it wont come off...

is there another way i can find out? like thru amd's cpuid util?

hmm.. so ur thinking it could actually b d cpu? does different steppings really can affect overclockability?
