Just saw an forum's post at www.blu-ray.com, that there will be NEW DOLBY SURROUND SOUND (COMING SOON!) (TRUE 7.1, Pro Logic IIz & 9.1) . QUOTE I was reading this post on High Def Digest and it sounds to me that Dolby & DTS have finally combined forces to create a TRUE 7.1 Surround Sound with out having to tweak the original 5.1 mix into a 7.1 mix. With this new Surround Sound Mode you can have the TRUE HD AUDIO EXPERIENCE. The First Movie to be using this new sound is TOY STORY 3 in TRUE 7.1 DTS High Definition Master Audio, when it comes out soon. Honestly now I can't wait to check this out and hopefully now that studios can finally use this codec and make Blu-Ray better than it already is. Plus Dolby Studios are coming out with Pro Logic IIz & a 9.1 Surround Sound Mode, so basically they are gonna tweak the 7.1 into the 9.1 kinda Ironic isn't it. Here is the Link to the website High-Def Digest Chats with Dolby About 7.1 and 9.1 SurroundQuoted from igloo1212 at www.blu-ray.com's forum. So, are you exited? As it is,only a handful of movies, mostly chinese, have 7.1 surround mix. Most major studios are using the 5.1 and honestly, I can't hear the diff .

I am more keen on the Front Wide and Front High than Surround back for 7.1. If 9.1, Front Wide and High for me.
The improvement yields from surr back is lesser than what I get from Front Wide. Now, on Audyssey DSX Wide for my system

This is a case of home theater audio exceeding 35mm film presentation audio. Usually it's the other way around.
DTS and Dolby on BD from the start have always had 7.1 channels provisioned. It's just that most movies are not mixed in 7.1. Movies have to be remixed from 5.1 to 6.1/7.1 when they are released on BD.
New 7.1 receivers with DTS HDMA and Dolby TrueHD can already decode and deliver 7.1 audio. Receivers with only 5.1 output even though they can decode DTS HDMA and DTHD cannot. So when Toy Story 3 is released, those 7.1 receivers and setups can enjoy it in its full glory.
The "height" channels is new. It's not a discrete channel. From the looks of it, people with large screens or projectors would benefit most from it.
