wanna ask, just now tried gaming, i set my hwmonitor on. after 5 minutes i go back desktop and saw my 5870m max temp is 106c...
is it something wrong? i dont wanna end up with fried laptop

i need someone who's using 5870m to clarify this. and whats are the normal idle temp for 5870m?
btw my idle temp is 79c-80c. room ambient temp maybe 28c with no aircond.

ahh...yea maybe i need to repaste. anyone done on their g73 yet? im a beginner to notebook diy

i bought this used 2nd hand from a friend last week. he bought it in Aussie on june. so its like 6 months old. (another 18 months warranty) condition still great 9.5/10

btw can i send to Asus at Imbi to fix it? or DIY it myself?

how long it will take if i take it to Asus at imbi? coz i just had the gc temp overheat...my proc is still good temps.

i will ask 1st and if it take long time i guess i have to repaste it myself...btw is warranty void if i disassemble it?

eh btw cheesenium, ur temp 50+ idle is when u charging or not? becoz i just tested with charge on, my idle temp is 72c went up to 98c when gaming and when not charging idle temp is 60c and max load at 78c - 80c when gaming. hurmmm...but i think still its a bit high...so repaste it is

yea battery is always attached. i mean did u put the charger on while gaming? can u test it with battery only and with the charger on...it gives effect on the temp...increase quit a lot.

i just done reapplying thermal paste on my gpu...done it at my office this evening...using artic silver 5 (thats only good paste i have in office) disassembly is easy if u follow all the guide provided.
was in a rush just now...havent got a chance to test the gpu...now just got back from work...will update with some pics later... really tiring day

my idle is 53 now, ambient is around 28c non ac room...kinda hot in here
on load games i got around 85c. i guess its kinda succesfull repaste coz before my idle is 70c and when gaming is 106c

ahhh i forgot to clean up the heatsink maybe got dust trap inside there . i just remember when was halfway assemble it back...nvm will do again next time













This is how the stock thermal paste looks like. almost nothing left


After i clean it with zippo oil with cloth. shiny again. and im using Artic Silver 5 for the paste.

If you do it carefully(follow the guide) and with all the nescessary tools, then its not hard.
hardest part is to flip the motherboard as u might need someone to help u hold the motherboard while flipping it.
Other than that all was easy. done it around 2 hours. but i forgot to see if there a dust trap inside the heatsink

for the thermal paste amount just put it bigger than a piece of rice. then u put back the heatsink and let it spread. after that u open back the heatsink to see if the spread is perfect.

yup need to clean it with some alcohol type coz it easy to vaporised. so i use zippo as alternative.

my 1st time opening a laptop is my G73JH lolz...u should try it cheesenium. if i can do it, u can too

yea same man...bought mine with own $ also. but if i wait longer i cannot gaming with it...dont want it sitting around just to browsing the net...so i just give it a go...huhuhu
