QUOTE(Viperion @ Aug 31 2010, 10:16 PM) GSOD is random. Some users are affected by it and some are not. It really depends on the QC of the notebook when it leaves the factory. Im saving for a G73 but when i saw the GSOD issue, it concerns me as i aint paying so much for a laptop that barely could play games. I do play SC2, but im aiming for something that will heat up the system much much more like a Frostbite Engine powered game, BFBC2 and MoH. On my current rig, BFBC2 can heat the GPU up to 110 celcius. I dont want to see that happening to my G73 when i get it. Im expecting that G73 is able to take BFBC2 on medium without any performance loss after playing for 2 hours. How bad is the GSOD issue? Whats the cause of it? Is there any way to prevent it? Hopefully,G53 wont be too hot.
The performance looks good enough for me. I get to play BF3 with it. |

Hey guys, im planning to get a G53 or G73 as i just got my funding.
Which one do you guys recommend to get? G53 or G73? I dont really carry my laptop around and even if i need to, i have my dying M1530. Are there any heat issue with G73? How severe is it? Also, which online store is the best place to get based on your experience? Mucro Asia or gentech PC? This post has been edited by Cheesenium: Sep 21 2010, 10:04 AM |

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Sep 21 2010, 10:35 AM) I thought 460 is slightly weaker than 5870?Besides, is i7 720 enough for more processor intensive games? Anyway, i'll give a thought about this. Probably get it around November after they iron out most of the problems. QUOTE(Viperion @ Sep 21 2010, 11:44 AM) The G73 is not really that mobile unless you are used to carrying around 7~10 KG in a backpack I have seen the repasting process. It doesnt seem as easy as it seems, though.Definitely GentechPC. I wouldn't touch Mucro Asia with a 1000ft pole. Check the previous thread, there are users who faced problem with their service. I'm not sure if anyone successfully purchased a unit from them but they gave terrible service to a few members in the original thread. So, i assume Gentech PC is much better then? Great, i could get the custom thermal paste and custom light for the WASD keys. Thanks. |

QUOTE(Viperion @ Sep 21 2010, 03:27 PM) If you are going to get from GentechPC, make sure you get Ken Lee as your sales person. He has handled a lot of cases from Malaysia especially the members in this thread. Mention the TS name (Jeffrey) or mine (Mark) and he will know what to do. He should be able to ship orders to Malaysia now in his sleep, LMAO! Ah, i see.If you are wondering, no the both of us is not getting anything from him & Gentech except for friendship as we usually keep in touch, except me because I've been busy as heck till recently Well, im in Australia now. Hopefully Ken Lee can manage mine too. And make sure it's perfect before shipping it to me. Looking forward to Battlefield 3 with G73. QUOTE(riku2replica @ Sep 21 2010, 04:35 PM) Well, u can tell it from GTX 260m. It stood in the market for its outstanding performance. Assuming GTX 460m will do the same thing. But still i can't find any G73jw benchmark nor review yet. Definitely, G53 will weight much lesser, but im thinking of a large laptop this time round. Wont G73 have better cooling than G53 due to larger size?If u want less weigth smaller FHD screen go for G53. PS: I'm expecting G53 to weight less than G73. Besides, how heavy is G73 if you take account of the adapter and so on? |

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Sep 21 2010, 09:36 PM) maybe, the copper oz in g73 will be much more compared to g53. LOL, i want more copper in my new laptop.Im quite scared of overheating issues. The adapter should be about the same. QUOTE(Jeffrey1987 @ Sep 22 2010, 12:04 AM) It's all depends on your preference whether you are leaned to size factor or not? 15" is easier for you to move around. Less weight for sure. Not only lighter, also cheaper. Maybe i'll wait for the first batch and see how much is the temperature difference. If you asked me which resellers I'm going to get my gaming notebook, I will certainly will order it from GenTechPC. Greatest CS I have ever received. Oh yea, where do you plan to ship the notebook? Australia? Yeah, i would want to ship to Australia. I hope they dont tax my new laptop when it's at the customs. QUOTE(Viperion @ Sep 22 2010, 01:32 AM) You can get Ken to check the unit for you before shipping. Just mention what are your concerns and he will try his best to get the techies in the warehouse to inspect your unit before shipment. It's heavy around 5~7KG, I haven't actually weight my fully loaded backpack but it feels like nearly 10 KG with my accessories listed below minus the printer of course Nice, still, do you think Ken will help me to do some sort of burn test or something? Like a 5 hour long Funmark or some sort of benchmark just to make sure it doesnt overheat or GSOD.Wow, thats heavy. |

QUOTE(Viperion @ Sep 22 2010, 12:32 PM) I might be exaggerating the a weight a little but it feel like that Yea, i would want them to flash my BIOS, upgrade the thermal paste and do a burn test. Anyway, thanks a lot. Appreciate your help. I'll probably get G73JW, after the first batch comes out. |

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Sep 22 2010, 10:36 PM) There seems to be a clear winner for G73 debuts between HD5870m and GTX 460m. I just check some eurocom benchmark with HD5870m and GTX 480m performance. GTX480m is performing slightly ahead of HD5870m. Damn. Maybe i should get G73 B1 now then. Which could actually discuss GTX 460m will be weaker or slightly weak than HD5870m. Games which are optimized for Nvidia with PhysX will be an advantage. But without PhysX, it could perform almost the same as HD5870m or +/- frames. One question, is it hotter? QUOTE(coolman91 @ Sep 22 2010, 11:24 PM) Right, can afford a G73 but not some cheap ori games?Introduce you to Steam. Then, wait till end of the year for the big christmas offer to buy games. It will have very very cheap game, like Witcher Enchanced Edition for RM18 or Team Fortress 2 for RM30. Most older games are around RM5 to RM30 price range. They also have weekly sales, but most of the time isnt that attractive. It's because of Steam, now, i have way too many games to play because i keep buying them when it's on sale. I have been watching some benchmarks on G73JH and G73JW, It seems like G73JW's GC is slightly weaker than G73JH. Dirt 2 benchmark runs slightly slower, by about 5 fps less. Does anyone know why Asus switch to a weaker GC?
Im not complaining as regardless of any G73, it's a HUGE boost from what i got. From 8 to 16fps on Low and DX9 to 26 to 38fps in High and DX11. |

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Sep 23 2010, 09:07 AM) The problem actually lies within the nvidia Fermi. GTX 470m and 480m are consuming more watts compared to GTX 460m. Even there are ppl asking in alienware thread about upgrading it, new monster power adapter will be needed for it. Even Eurocom has the GTX 480m laptop comes with 220 watt powerbrick to keep the hot and power consuming GTX 480m. And Eurocom has to place 2 copper cooler to cool off the GTX 480m instead of 1 cooper slot. Still, why did they change it to Fermi?5870 was pretty decent. Im seriously not getting it for the 3D thing. |

QUOTE(finecut @ Sep 24 2010, 02:14 PM) wanna ask if i do a lot of 3d and renderings, so is the 460m or the ati hd5870 better for it.. am thinking of getting 1 ASUS G53JW-A1 from gentech, how's the shipment gonna take? and i can't use any other cc outside US/canada? and what is the best and cheapest possible way to get it shipped to brunei? Both GC have almost the same performance, except 5870 has slightly higher performance.1st timer on this |

Thats one pretty important thing.is there any guide on buying and shipping it to brunei? currently working here I'll probably not getting it from Gentech because there are 10% import on electronics from overseas. |

Just have a question, is that a chance that 460m is performing slightly worse than 5850's reason is because of immature drivers?

QUOTE(vanishing1983 @ Sep 28 2010, 12:37 PM) Hi people, If i were you, i'll take it even though it cost a lot, as the stock thermal paste is horrible in some cases.Would like to seek your advice on Asus G73 JH. I'll be purchasing my ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 from HIDevolution very soon. Link shown as below:- http://www.hidevolution.com/featured-produ...b-17-3-dvd.html Would like your advice on the Thermal Paste services provided by them. I'm thinking of adding IC-Diamond Thermal paste on the CPU & GPU that would cost me 35 USD each Thermal paste applied by them (HIDevolution). A total cost of extra 70 USD. That would be "70.00 USD = 216.510 MYR" Kindly advice me if I should Pay an additional RM216 for the Thermal paste to reduce heat and extend the life of the Asus G73 JH is it worth it or not? Looking forward to hear from everyone Input before I purchase it soon Cheers. Unless you are willing to change it yourself. |
