but i dont know is worth a not lah so asking u all is it still ok or i kena CHOP ?? icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

Nope you didn't kena chop. As long it's cheaper and you feel what you paid is fine then don't worry about it. BTW, did the unit you receive came in the original packaging? The Ebay seller stated in his page that the unit might or might not come with packaging. Although he states brand new I feel like it could be refurbished units. Just double check wink.gif

refurbish got 3 months warranty from Asus iinm. Mostly its due to customer rejected the RMA unit and thus its labeled Refurbished in most cases.

Added on September 13, 2010, 12:26 amAs for pros, well its tested after re-assembled and new box and stuff.
Cons, if ur unlucky then u might need to RMA it again. laugh.gif
But let's hope ur unit is new.
*
Hmmm, are you sure refurbished units come with 3 months warranty only? I thought Asus will honor the warranty from the date of purchase with an actual invoice and if the invoice cannot be produced they will follow the manufacturing date stated on the notebook. The reason why I suspect it's refurbished is because the statement the seller declared, units might come with or without packing. Some of these units were returned before the 30 days money back guarantee and the seller repackage the unit and resell. Hence the suspicion, for warranty I think Asus will honor the 2 years warranty as long as you have an actual invoice or if not they will at least follow from date of manufacture wink.gif

Don't worry mate, that is good news for you as even if refurbished your warranty should still be at least 2 years or more than 3 months wink.gif It's very hard to check as even buying from a retail store at times you can get refurbished unit if the boss/employees are not honest. What matters is your units comes without damage, your windows should be at first start mode and the warranty is 2 years wink.gif smile.gif

I was refering to here about that refurbished warranty. laugh.gif

LMAO! 3 months refurbished product warranty at the price USD 1049? I think they will be stuck with a lot of REFURB stocks wink.gif tongue.gif I think the best is to check with Asus on the validity of the warranty period wink.gif

The fact is i did consider of that refurbish unit, and u can custom to get 2 years warranty from Asus. But the only warranty u won't get is Asus ZBD valid.
*
Ah, that makes more sense then. Nobody would invest USD 1K ++ just to get 3 months warranty tongue.gif Asus ZBD is only valid in the USA wink.gif

doh.gif Is another problem again on how to send my notebook for RMA in Germany.  cry.gif
*
Do you have an account here? If you registered your laptop, login and click on warranty info. Check under Notebook and the click on the link Notebook Global Service on the right. Click on Asus Global Service Center. Look for the country you are in, in this case:

Germany
01805-010920 (09:00-18:00, Mon.~Fri., £á14cent/min German fix line; mobile communication max £á42cent/min)

You should download a memtest program to check your memory modules out to confirm there is a hardware issue before RMA. I will search for one later and post it here wink.gif

I have pull out a memory module and ran my notebook the whole day without any BSOD. My guess is that the particular memory module is faulty and I have asked Ken Lee to issue a RMA form/ letter to me. Hopefully everything will be OK.

Anyway, how many days it would take for RMA?
*
Well, in Malaysia it will take usually 1~2 weeks if they have the item in stock. For my case, the LCD will take 2~3 weeks to reach Malaysia and then another week or so for them to replace it. The RMA depends on how efficient the staff are and the return rate for that particular center wink.gif

Yes if you want to prevent all GSOD.

ya the box is SEAL with ASUS sticker ...

btw what u all mean about the INVOICE ! ??
is there any paper like prove that u buy with who and blah blah blah ??
if can POST me some example of how it's looks like (invoice LETTER)
*
I have an invoice from GentechPC like the one you get from shops in Lowyat. Just a printed A4 paper with the shop logo, the item you purchased, date of purchase and the price of the sale. Your unit looks new but like I said don't worry too much about it. If you have the original packaging, invoice and your date of manufacture is the past 3 months you should be safe. What is the date of manufacture for your unit?

Bottom of unit, it's the blue Asus sticker with your serial number. Last line should be MFD: 2010-05 (That's my date)

guys, is the keyboard LED backlit only light up during start up? don't know why mine no more light sad.gif
and how to do update the ccc to 10.8 version? i have tried to uninstall the stock version then install 10.8 but end up my graphic card cant detect and i have to restore my system sad.gif
*
You cannot update the graphic drivers in safe mode. You can remove/clear driver files and registry in safe mode but you must restart in normal windows mode in order to install catalyst 10.8. The backlight will blink once during POST and can only be turn on after you log into windows using the Fn F3 & Fn F4 keys wink.gif You must have ATK drivers installed for the backlight to work.

Seriously though, I have this notebook for almost two months now and I've logged less than 3 days worth of gaming time. I've been doing a lot of video conversion and work on it with a huge grin on my face every time biggrin.gif

I think they considered it but Asus always focuses on features and specifications while maintaining affordability for the masses. They are targeting medium range users rather than high end wink.gif

currently I am on 211 and 10.8, is tat advisable to upgrade to 93vbiosa? As I did not experience any GSOD

If you are not experiencing GSOD then don't upgrade. Only upgrade if you have GSODs, don't fix it unless it's broken wink.gif tongue.gif

Thanks to the above for all the wishes smile.gif

QUOTE(JasonMania @ Sep 20 2010, 10:55 AM)
Hi all,

I wanted to buy Asus G53 , and I had a few questions:

1 . Any problem with the laptop that is common , such as the laptop getting unreasonably hot ?

2.One of the users on lowyat recommended that I get my notebook from GenTechPC , I was wondering if you guys have tried buying from them ? are they reliable ( I went to their website , I got a little worried cause the site doesn't look professional) ?

3. If I decided to buy from GenTechPC are there any import duties I have to pay ??

4. What is the procedure like for importing , I mean if I order it just comes to my house , no need to do anything else ?"? sorry for asking such a noob question , but I never purchased a laptop online before?

5. Also if buy from US, what do you guys do for electricity problem ? cause it is different from there and here?
*
1.) Any gaming laptop will get hot due to the dedicated gaming card. What is important is the card is stable and bug free. Most of the G73 owners are plague with the defective ATI 5870 card which causes Gray Screen Of Death (GSOD) while running any graphic intensive applications. Check forum like Notebookreview forums or google G53+problems to find out for any issues with this particular model.

2.) I also would recommend GentechPC to you. Yes their web site doesn't look like much but I've went to other online resellers which website looks great and really professional but when you call them their staff provieds sub-par service and is not knowledgeable. GentechPC staff is quick and efficient giving the best service I've experienced thus far. Get Ken Lee as your sales person and let him know you were introduced by the TS and me (Mark Lee). He will handle your case with extra diligence then tongue.gif

3.) All PC/Notebooks is tax free so no duties.

4.)If you use the shipping option from GentechPC, they will ship with USPS. USPS will then forward the parcel to Pos Laju Malaysia when it arrives. Pos Laju will sometimes refuse to deliver the package to your house probably because they are lazy or the rates USPS pays them is too low. They will then call you and tell you to come pick up at the nearest Pos Laju branch. The other option is you can use Comgateway a freight forwarder in the USA. The shipping option is cheaper compared to what GentechPC is offering and they use DHL to deliver the parcel. This will guarantee the package will reach to your doorstep wink.gif

5.) The adapter is universal 110~240v. The only problem is the pin heads which are US standard and can be easily resolved by purchasing a RM 5 travel adapter converter.

can you shed some light on the payment options available? Do GenTechPC accept credit cards? bank transfers...etc? What is the most common payment method that you guys used?
*
They don't accept credit cards but you can pay by credit card through Paypal. However if you do that you will not receive the 3% cash back discount. In order to qualify for the 3% discount, you must pay by wire transfer. I've written a guide in the previous thread on how to pay by wire transfer. Do a search or go through my post to find it wink.gif
