guys, came across this phrase "A wider maximum aperture means that less light is needed" in neocamera.com. isn't it suppose to be wider max aperture(smallest f) means more light is needed?

Smaller f number = Bigger the aperture = Allows more light to come in,
Bigger f number = Smaller the aperture = Lesser light able to come in.

You'll need a body that can burst at high fps and use telephoto lenses.

Wow.... A55 is only cost RM2799 with kit lens....... With this kind of new technology, I'm so gonna get this DSLR for good.. Forget about A580.... Time to get this in my cart. brows.gif

But with this kind of price made me wonder..... is this DSLR a beginner or Intermediate DSLR? The price does look like beginner DSLR price... hmm.gif

Interesting thought. Would you had bought the A55 if it was priced at RM4999.00 and consider it as a mid-level / pro-level camera? laugh.gif

Read into Sony's marketing strategy and you may find some answers to your questions. I myself is still thinking about this same question and had not found an acceptable answer yet.... sweat.gif

Maybe that new technology does not require mirror which might cost RM1000 in the making that reduce the cost majorly? brows.gif

this is not entry level strictly speaking. more of a pro entry level body or enhanced entry level.

the cameras that fall under the so called entry level would be like d3000, canon 1000D and sony's a290 where their function are of most basic.

Did a photoshoot yesterday. Had a great time laughing and enjoying photography (like it is supposed to be). One end result shot to share:

Panning needs to use slower shutter speed. One of the trick is to use a smaller aperture to lower down the shutter speed. wink.gif

@eddybeh & ahpingko
the amount of light that reach sensor is same regardless the aperture size provided you shoot at nominal exposure from same metering (if u use A mode, change the aperture still change the shutter speed)

but then, if you have wider aperture, the light gather ability is stronger, and hence the correct term i think should be
"A wider maximum aperture means that less time for exposure is needed"
