Alright, successfully rooted my Desire. How do I flash custom roms? I want the app2sd+ feature.. Btw I have ClockworkMod recovery installed..
*
Copy the custom ROM zip file (together with Radio file if you dont have the required one), boot ur phone into recovery and select "flash from zip". Once flashed successfully, reboot ur phone and wait patiently till its boot into phone mod.

You can also remove those unnecessary apps via ADB if you know how to do it. smile.gif

For those who intends to root and flash custom ROM but dunno which guide to follow, you may refer this guide provided by Maliqu, a forumer who was very active and been providing us valuable advise in rooting and flashing. I believe majority of us here referred to his blog when rooting and flashing.

Comments on LeeDroid modded ROM.

When I rooted my Desire, LeeDroid 1.6 was my first ROM. Then I moved around a bit switching to others before coming back to 1.9c (or was it a, I forgot).

All I can say is that LeeDroid is good but the later version becomes what the others have said about AuraTSense, LeeDroid ROMS are getting increasingly heavy with bloatwares and unneeded stuffs.

No kidding. As a matter of fact, when I compared Android to an iPhone4, I noticed the stability on iPhone4 with the large 16GB storage. In today's computing and advanced technology, we should not even worry about space. Yet, with Android Froyo, I'm still lacking space. There are times I go to the Application list > select an application which the "Move to SD" button is NOT grayed out and pressed it. It would return lack of space in destination. Kinda pissifying.

I'm not saying iPhone is better, I'm saying this storage issue that I have and also some other issues such as:
1. Device rebooted on its own when updating app from Market
2. Device rebooted on its own when restoring app using Titanium Backup
3. Some app, despite the Move to SD button is clickable, does not allow to be moved to sdcard
4. SDcard is 512MB EXT and 0 SWAP, still too small and havent got the time to research how to enlarge this partition for more app.

Lastly,
AuraTSense > LeeDroid. I've never tried Open Desire though.
*
I was on NexTSense5.3 and moved to AuraxTSense7.1 two weeks ago. So far never encounter any problem, it is fast and the battery life is acceptable.

1) No auto reboot when installing apps from market
2) I used MyBackup Pro to restore apps, no auto reboot during restoration process.
3) I dont use Move to SD as I have 130++ apps/games installed yet still have 60MB++ space on internal
4) You can upgrade partition size by using amon_ra recovery.

You may use ADB to remove unnecessary apps on those custom ROM (But make sure you know what r u removing laugh.gif )

Just my opinion, I believe those who have random reboot problem is either did not do a full wipe when switching ROMs, or have restored some system apps using Titanium backup.

Yes, I was on NextSense 5.3 > LeeDroid version x(forgot) > AuraTSense 7.6.1

Yes, I know there are plenty of workarounds since we have rooted our device. It's convenient but not THAT convenient. Probably sign of old age, I'm tired of reading articles on how to use Amon_Ra or Goldcard or whatever. Maybe there is a solution for all this but I'm plain lazy. At this age, I want them all automated! smile.gif

By the way, here's my process of flashing a new Rom

1. Reboot to recovery
2. Full wipe
3. Wipe cache
4. Format ext
5. Format Dalvik cache
6. Format battery info
7. Reboot to recovery
8. Flash rom
9. Reboot and let rom load for first time
10. Get into the phone, setup for first use
11. SIgn in with Gmail to access Market
12. Download and install Astro File manager
13. Use Astro, browse sdcard, find Titanium Backup
14. Restore all user app + data (note, I have not touch the System and I only restore those I know I download, not something like DSP, Cifs Manager, etc)
15. Restore system app DATA ONLY

At point 14, it would reboot on its own about 70% of the time. No joke. I'm gonna stop flashing roms now and learn to live with one. AuraTSense 7.6.1 is quite good for me. It has this Reboot option and Reboot to Recovery / Bootloader too. It's good for me even if I encounter some auto-reboot problem, I come back in, I do a reboot again to ensure a proper reboot is done. Then the start up where the 4 color thing moves... That's indication that the process is running, unlike LeeDroid and his damn R2D2 sound on startup (Yes, I know can disable but like I said, I want it automated now) and LeeDroid does not have anything to indicate it's running or it has hanged. I waited for LeeDroid 15 minutes once to only realized it has hanged after the HTC logo scene.

Speaking of which, I'm worn out for the day so my post isnt exactly the best passage I've written. Those felt offended, I humbly apologies. Considering that AuraTSense 7.6.1 is mediocre, I think the original Froyo released to SEA will address all of my issues but one, rooted privilege.

Your phone is SEA set? You did steps in the link above just to "force" your phone to get update to European official froyo?
*
yea it was SEA set. and apparently the ROM doesn't work with SLCD.

Had the most frightening 30 minutes while downloading the SEA official Froyo ROM

http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/RUU_...3921_signed.exe

Now everything works fine ! ! !

I shall not venture into messing with the phone again !

Quick question:

If I flash my desire to the official Froyo for SEA, how much space would I have to install all of my applications / games?

Currently, I'm on that 512MB EXT and 0 SWAP settings. I dont have much and some apps that I selected to "Move to SD" from SETTINGS > APPLICATION dont work despite the application only take up 17MB and my Quick Settings tells me I have 67MB balance. Wierd!

I've tried cooked version of auratsense and lee droid rom (slim down version)
stil i found the smoothness of sense UI is losing to original sense Froyo rom.
Cooked version of Auratsense and lee droid not bloated but seems like lag compare to the orginal but pls note the speed difference is minor.
So i decide to use Rooted official Froyo wit Apps2sd and deleted unneccesary apps that apply to me. (Slimed down version of official Froyo sense).
Now very happy.
If Auratsense and leedroid is fast to you, mine is superfast but i'm only refering to Sense UI smoothness.

How do you use Official Froyo with app2sd? Does it have app2sd+?

Edit: app2sd you refer to is it the stock app2sd which only work for certain apps?

let us bear in mind that the desire HD is not 3.7inch.. size does matter, unless the HTC Desire Z is gonna be an international release. But bear in mind that the Desire Z has a sliding keyboard too.. only htc desire is 3.7inch without a keyboard..

No, it is Apps2d+. Direct install to SD.
Rooted Official Froyo with Apps2d+ (But no no deodexed) - For me is really clean(not bloated like other rom),
stable since its original and super fast since it is slimed down (removed twitter, teeter and etc)

Sounds promising. May I know where to get that rom?

Just for my knowledge purposes, what exactly is Deodexed?

U can follow this Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741663
However thsi is not the slimed down version.

Meaning u get Official Froyo with Apps2d+ and also al the other htc apps like teeter, stock and etc.

However, U can download the rom and then extract the zip file and look into system/app and then delete the apps (*.apk and *.odex) that u don need.
For eg. u looke into system/app folder and u can see teeter.apk and teeter.odex then u delete this 2.
After that u zip all the file that u hav extracted out which already remove these 2 files and flash the rom.
Finally, U wil find that teeter app is removed when u boot ur phone.
Just make sure u know what u delete.

If u find the steps is too complicated, jus flash the rom and try out 1st as removing the unnecessary file/app actually is not significant in terms of file size. Probably only remove 1-3 mb only.
But u will get a very fas UI and stable compare to other rom currently which is bloated. (This may change depend how they revise their rom)

@nd part of your question- I only knows that there are *.odex file along side to your apk files and most rom remove these
odex file to slim down their rom to gain more meory or space. And this process they name deodexed.
However, i still dunoo what is the purpose of the odex file.
