You used to need passport to enter East Malaysia, if you are holding IC which starts with AXXXXXXXX.

However, that is no longer needed. All you need is MyKad now, and fill in an entry paper. You need to keep this paper at all time during your stay in Sabah. 'cos when you leave, you need to return it to the immigrations.
