I will hold DirectAccess Mastercard and OCBC Titanium (if approved).
If OCBC card failed, I will just hold the former.

I applied for OCBC Titanium a week ago, still no call or SMS from them  cry.gif  Might have to call them in a day or two.

If OCBC failed, I'll probably apply for DirectAccess Mastercard. IMHO, it's the second best gold-level card in the market right now.

Perhaps Gen-X (who made a very useful table, see: My Credit Cards, MilesAndMore or winner sifus can tackle this question?

OCBC's Titanium Mastercard being the best cash rebate card as of today, which card is no. 2 strictly in terms of cash rebates (or even in terms of points after conversion to equivalent RM)? AMEX Gold CC, Direct Access Mastercard? (Standard Chartered JustOne Mastercard Titanium to be excluded as it is no longer available). Many thanks to all forumers!

QUOTE(s@ni @ Sep 20 2010, 02:36 PM)
oh btw, i didnt even have any CC before, still rejected by OCBC. due to my unpaid leave for 2 weeks perhaps doh.gif laugh.gif  any good agent to refer?

QUOTE(lj0000 @ Sep 24 2010, 01:09 PM)
i failed my ocbc titanium i think because i got too high credit limit on other cards. they would total up my credit limit from other bank and then compare the risk of me maxing out all the cards.

so.. moral of the story is.. high CL not necessary good esp if u have multiple card.

QUOTE(wongpeter @ Sep 24 2010, 01:24 PM)
I am not so sure that totalling the CL of all cc's owned thus establishing the quantum of risk is the criteria used to determine the eligibility for a cc. Income is without a doubt a huge determinant when applying for a cc. Perhaps other factors are equally as important as income and maybe someone in the banking or cc industry could shed some light on this matter of how and why cc applications are successful or declined.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Sep 24 2010, 01:17 PM)
Need to qualify that ....  high CL should commensurate with your income/net worth  smile.gif

Been in the same spot but the difference was my Term Loan (to purchase a property) was denied and had to reduce the CL on one of my card to reduce my overall credit exposure  tongue.gif

Looks like those of us (including me) who meet the eligibility criteria for OCBC Titanium MC but still fail in our application have to learn from travelyew - appeal by email to cap@ocbc.com and/or pledge FD? However, he did it before OCBC re-launched their Titanium MC. jack2 and Lara_, can share more? All the best chemistry and kons.

My application history for forumers' analysis:

1. 8 Sept 2010 - Application submitted by email to Lim Tiong Shing @ Johnson Lim <JohnsonLim@ocbc.com> of OCBC Credit Card Department, Unsecured Loans, Mobile: 012-3453683, Office: 03-27833072, Fax: 03-27111098. He telephoned me shortly after I indicated my interest by keying in my mobile at OCBC's website on 6.9.2010.

2. 9 Sept 2010 - Missed out EPF statement in previous day's email - duly forwarded to Johnson.

3. 13 Sept 2010 - Telephoned OCBC to make sure papers are in order. Customer Rep informed that my application is not yet in the system but they will check, she asked for their staff name and my personal details.

4. 18 Sept 2010 - OCBC Customer Rep telephoned to inform that account created - application however is pending recommendation? (not sure). She also added that according to their system, the deadline for OCBC to decide on my application is 24.9.2010.

5. 22 Sept 2010 - Telephoned OCBC to find out status. Still pending approval.

6. 23 Sept 2010 - OCBC Customer Rep telephoned in the evening that application declined by management - reason not known from system. cry.gif Also told that I should re-apply AFTER 6 months as otherwise automatically rejected by system.

7. 24 Sept 2010 - Appeal?

Hi LYN forumers out there, did you guys see any OCBC promotion booth at any shopping mall or hypermarket? Please inform me if there is. TQ. biggrin.gif

If I recall correctly, someone mentioned seeing OCBC booth at 1Utama on 18/19 Sept. Seems that there should be a booth at Fahrenheit 88 as there were many OCBC Titanium buntings (which mentioned free gift) although I could not locate it.

Just had a quick look at the T&Cs available here (link to PDF) for this new PB-Esso Mobil Visa Gold Credit Card.

QUOTE
*Up to 8% cash rebate on on fuel and non-fuel purchase at Esso or Mobil service stations as per stipulated in the table + additional 3% cash rebate on top of the tier. The maximum cash rebate is RM80 per month. Promotion valid till 31 March 2011.  Effective 1 April 2011, you will continue to enjoy up to 5% cash rebate on fuel and non-fuel purchase at Esso or Mobil service stations. The maximum cash rebate is RM50 per month.

Unlimited Cash MegaBonus of 0.5% for other retail purchase excludes transaction at casino and petrol stations, cash advance, balance transfer, government-related payment, payment to charity and utility bills payment via www.pbebank.com, PB Telebanking and ATM.

Seems to be a good card to complement OCBC's Titanium Mastercard for those whose fuel expenses alone average RM500.00-800.00 (where you get 3.0% cash rebate (plus additional 3.0% for a total of 6.0% until 31 March 2011). Wef 1 April 2011, the additional 3.0% disappears...

AND for those who don't already hold a Citibank Cashback Platinum CC. I suppose very few forumers here spend in excess of RM1200.00 on fuel alone per month (RM600.00 max fuel rebate for Citibank and OCBC (subject to verification - as pointed out by ck_tonny, the OCBC savings calculator for fuel maxes out at RM600.00).

Total Monthly Retail Purchase at Esso or Mobil Service Stations (RM)

Cash Rebate Tier (%)
< = 100 0.5
>100 - 200 1.0
>200 - 500 2.0
>500 - 800 3.0
>800 5.0

Note that the maximum cash rebate amount for PB-Esso Mobil Visa Gold CC is RM50.00 per month for fuel (insert: wef 1 April 2011 - for the promotion period from now till 31 March 2011, the max cash rebate is RM80.00).

Holders of DA/CIMB card with (current) 2.0% fuel rebate and AMEX Gold CC with 5x MR points (2.5% equivalent in RM) will have to decide whether the RM50.00 service tax can be offset from fuel rebates gained through this card. Needless to say, there are many calculating gurus in this thread who can contribute on this point.

I am a former long time Shell petrol user who recently converted to Esso/Mobil (I personally find the current Esso fuel formulation to have more or less the same fuel economy but much better acceleration (power delivery) and lower engine noise (smoothness), for RON95). Driving a fuel-guzzling KIA Spectra 1.6 Auto! Anyway, there is a separate thread for fuel consumption somewhere in this forum.

Also, Bonuslink points are nothing as compared with the RM15 for every RM1000 spend earned with the Smiles loyalty card (equivalent to 1.5% cashback which you get on top of credit card swap rebates/points).
