“The price war has also spilled over to credit cards, with offers to absorb the government annual service tax. This was previously borne by card holders,” said an analyst from UOB KayHian.

Anybody knows which credit cards can absorb the RM50 government tax? I mean unconditionally, without needing to spend a certain amount or using reward points.

Hi, I'm a credit card noob here.

After considering between HSBC Advance Visa Platinum, Direct Access MasterCard Gold and Maybank Petronas Visa Gold ....... I decided on Maybank Petronas Visa Gold. If anyone thinks that's a stupid decision, please let me know tongue.gif

I have two questions:
1. If I request the Maybank credit card (or any credit card) to be send to my home, do I have to receive it in person and put down my signature (like Pos Laju) or will it be left in my mailbox (I live in an apartment and there's nobody home during working hours)?

2. Maybank has been giving out this card to many of its customers but somehow I was not invited.
Which form of application has better chance of success:
1. Call to get a pre-approved card (since I'm a Maybank customer)
2. Submit my application form direct to one of the Maybank branches
3. Submit my application through one of the credit card agents that represents many banks

Thanks.

It depends on the bank.. for gold card, some bank use normal post which x requires signature, some bank use registered post which requires u to sign
(nt sure about maybank)

for me, maybank petronas is not a good option, unless u really spend a lot on petronas
*
The reasons I choose Maybank Petronas is below biggrin.gif :

Actually what I'm looking for is a free for life credit card. Must be Visa, since I'll be using PayPal. And I plan to use it to book airline tickets online and auto debit my insurance bills.

My monthly expenditure is quite low. The items can can be paid using credit cards are grocery and petrol (total RM300-400), so I don't think I'll benefit much from rebate or cash back plans.

Maybank has branches and ATMs all over the place, so it's really convenient.

I'm not comfortable with high credit limit and prefer to keep low profile ...... which is why I choose the Petronas card over HSBC Advance Platinum.

But you are most welcome to propose better alternatives to the Maybank Petronas card nod.gif

How high is considered high ? Even the HSBC Premier MasterCard credit line starts from RM30,000 only.

For me, anything above RM10k is considered high sweat.gif

RM6k-8k credit limit is just nice for me.

You might consider OCBC titanium, it meets all your requirement. to you, the major drawback maybe is its little branches and atm network compare to maybank, otherwise, it is better than maybank
*
OCBC Titanium looks good but OCBC branches are far away from my home and workplace. Further, more OCBC titanium is Mastercard.

chemistry is right that choices are limited if I want only Visa.

dannyl, chemistry and wongpeter,

If I'm not mistaken, Paypal allows only Visa cards for fund withdrawal. And I'm only interested in receiving and withdrawing funds, not buying things online brows.gif

this is a 2009 post, but still .....

OCBC Titanium is suddenly attractive to me drool.gif

A few questions regarding this card:
1. Can I apply for OCBC Titanium at OCBC Al Amin branches or only conventional branches?
2. Can credit card bill payment be made at Pos Malaysia counters? I especially want to know with regards to OCBC and Maybank cards.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Sep 6 2010, 06:44 PM)
Yes. That is true. Only VISA is supported for fund withdrawal. However, you may also withdraw the money directly to your Malaysian bank account and the charge is free (after a certain amount). All this information is available in your Paypal page.

Thank you for the info. I learn something new today.

Do they even accept credit card as a mode of payment ???

No, what I meant was - can I use cash to pay for my credit card bills/what I owe the bank at Pos Malaysia outlets.

Only MEPS-participating banks can.

Anybody knows a credit card agent who can meet me in Sunway and help me apply, kindly PM me.

Thanks.

Morning guys,

I'll be faxing in my application for the OCBC Titanium Card this evening. As I currently don't own a credit card, I'll need to fax the bank statements as well.

If the bank statement shows my savings account is nearly empty of cash, will it kill my application? Should I fax over my FD certs as supporting document?

Another question from a credit card newbie. Other than by going to an OCBC branch or sending a cheque, what other ways are there to pay the credit card bills. Can I pay my OCBC credit card bills via Maybank2u? Or use a Maybank/any non-OCBC ATM to pay the cc bills?

In terms of prestige, OCBC does not lose out to other foreign banks.

Due to low profile in Malaysia many our citizens do not realize how 'big' OCBC is. Perhaps the most they know is the number of branches in Malaysia.
*
In that case, many Malaysians must think that carrying a Maybank credit card is very very prestigious tongue.gif

I work in an advertising agency and I'm told that OCBC's relaunched Titanium card will be advertised prominently in the papers tomorrow.

With the 5% rebate, I'm sure applications will flood in. So forumers who plan to apply better do it fast. I'm glad I applied several days ago.

Then another cc war will start soon.
Since the BNM plan to tighten the cc application rules mayb next year. All bank will try to get as much as cc holder.....

An "informed" friend told me limiting a consumer to credit cards from two banks, and raising the minimum annual income requirements to RM24k is "very likely".

If you guys and girls are limited to only cards from two banks, which banks will you choose?

I'll pick OCBC Titanium. The other card will be either Standard Chartered, HSBC or CIMB Direct Access.

Sent mine in on 2/9/10. Approximately 5 working days later, i received a text message from them asking me to resend a clear copy of my MyKad and existing credit card. I did what they requested. Faxed them everything requested. A few days later, the status was changed back to "under processing" in the morning. However, when i checked again at night, the status was change back to "waiting for pending documents"  shakehead.gif  doh.gif  Have not received any calls or text message from them since though.
*
It's now 19/9/10 shakehead.gif I think you better call them again to check if the application has been approved.

I have all my debts clear everymonth.  Never late for that and also my car loan.  Anyhow, that's just a titanum and not platinum.

wondering..  shocking.gif

When did u apply for Titanum Card - before or after Matta Fair?

If after, the OCBC officer in charge of approval probably could see that u already have so many credit cards.

Too many cards = risky customer, even if your payment record is good. Unless u are a millionaire.

After matta fair.  hmm meaning to say OCBC is harder to apply?  guess may have to submit my loan application in order to get a ocbc card.

i tot a good master is always a good customer?  ohmy.gif

Let's say I'm the officer in charge of approving your card.

I see you already have 5 cards. I'll be suspicious why you need yet one more card? I'll prefer to give "your" approval to someone else who has 0 to 2 cards, and are more likely to use the Titanium Card often.

In other words, your attempt to get 'free' RM300 by applying for many cards at the Matta Fair most probably cause your application to be rejected.

The platinum cards were approved probably cause the applications were made at the same time..
