Received a call from a CSR insurance co.

Here is the conversation between me (M) and the CSR ©

C: Hi, im from (I forgot name of company). Regarding your Maybank Petronas Visa Application, we would like to OFFER you insurance coverage for 1 year worth RM200k. Yearly fee is RM300. But like it or not WE WOULD FORCE IMPOSE the RM300 fee on you. You can pay by instalment of RM10 per month. But the RM300 must be imposed for 1st year. 2nd year you can choose to cancel the policy.

M: What? But I haven't take my Card yet from the bank nor activate it. How can ?

C: (Starts to get rude). Why didn't you say earler! Ok, so WHAT OTHER CARDS YOU HAVE Sir?

M: No other cards.

C: So when are you planning of taking your credit card? If not, I will call you over and over again.

M: I don't know. I haven't got any time yet.

C: Ok, thank you.

Now, these kind of hidden things that make me wanna cancel it before i even swipe it. Is such policy exist and do they have the right to force you to take it ?

And, why do she ask me if I have another card if the offer is exclusively for the Maybank Visa Petronas application?

I'm getting kinda skeptical. She dun have the CSR attitude, rude that makes me wonder the genuinity. Summore phone is Private Number....

Update: Just remembered: That is not the card I applied for rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

It is a scam lah. Someone in MBB probably sold your contact details to a 3rd party. The person on the phone hard pressed to sell the insurance and it is not from MBB. (Impersonate only)

Next time something like this happen challenge the person to tell you that only the bank will know. They will likely to put down the phone immediately.

Yeah.

Update: Just remembered: I applied Maybank Amex & CIMB Petronas. I did not apply Maybank Visa.

I was curious cos she was rude and has no manners at all.

Damn, hope she calls again so i can troll her kaw2.

But already came statement ask me to pay RM50.

Do I need to pay it if I do not want to pick up or just cancel the card ?

We have repeatedly answered such questions .... government tax is immediately payable the moment the card is approved. If you cancel the card immediately, you are still liable to pay for the tax. Non-waiverable.
*
I did the same to my approved Maybankcard which arrived with the CIMB at the same time.

Cancelled the Maybankcard without activating, No RM50 tax charged. But why CIMB different ?

on cases basis..as my BIMB GC..after approved, then i immediately cancelled (due to long waiting period) when they called me to confirm the delivery address..no GST charges..

yup... due to the waiting game i decided to cancel those both ... but the CIMB came with the RM50 charge before the card is even picked up. rclxub.gif

Yes that is so unfair isn't it. Since it's a free country I suggest you don't pay it. I am quite sure they can't issue a warrant of arrest out on you for non-payment. Maybe they'll just put a blackmark on your CTOS or is it CCRIS and then you'll never be eligible for a loan or cc application ever again. But that's just a small price to pay. The important thing is that you get to save the 50 bucks and that is all that matters!

what i can do now is hold on till i get a clearer picture.

You are lucky then. Once you have signed and submitted the application form, you have already agreed with all the T&Cs. You can't treat cc application for "fun".
*
sometime its not for fun... when u need a card you may not know which one may get approval so applied for a few cards simultaneously. Each card MBB, CIMB that i applied took about 3 weeks to hear about the status. HSBC was silent for 2 weeks b4 they say i need to refax a clearer IC (which i rejected). If u wait for one after another, then it will be a futile waste of time to play more waiting game for each application.

Today at parliment sitting, the minister has announced that the CC GST will not be waived next year
