QUOTE(KannaSai1 @ Aug 18 2010, 07:17 PM) indeed.. seems like the best processor on android is Samsung 1Ghz Hummingbird.. that chip is quite similar in a way to Apple A4 as both shared the same brain but apple and samsung modded it using their own style so the end product of those two A4 is different. Seems like Hummingbird is the best processor which is available today on a smartphone at this period |

Samsung Hummingbird; it kills the Snapdragon by a small margin, but its a kill nonetheless.
That is, until 1.5Ghz Dual-core phones start to appear this year-end. http://gizmodo.com/5614578/smartphones-to-...-by-end-of-year |

Ok.. Let put aside lower processor which mean below 1GHz.. Sorry..
1. Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1GHz processor: Nexus One, Xperia X10, and Desire 2. Samsung Hummingbird aka ARM Cortex A8 S5PC110, 1 Ghz with PowerVR SGX 540 (SoC:System-on-a-Chip): Samsung i9000 Galaxy S - Once again, put aside SE X10 because thanks to Sony Ericsson with only Android 1.6 aka Donut available on it despite awesome Timescape and Mediascape on board.. This phone can be said showing itself weaknesses which mean laggy, and video+photo capturing res problem for now.. Waiting for Eclair though for sure it'll be marvelous!! - Nexus One was the first one came with Eclair 2.1 on board and during that time, the fastest processing phone.. - Then, come on board, Nexus One or N1 sibling Desire with same processor and Eclair 2.1 too! - Unfortunately, N1 get ahead with Froyo 2.2 first and some said it increase N1 performance by 200%!! Web browsing is faster, FPS is increased, reboot timing is faster which mean it absolutely enlightened N1 owners days!! (I'm not sure about Desire 2.2 but from what I heard only custom ROM is available here for now) - It's so hard to compare between N1 and Desire with 2.2 ROM which both perform so well.. - And yes... when someone chit chat about Quake game, then, here we are.. Samsung i9000 Galaxy S come with SoC processor.. FPS for benchmark is far better than N1 and Desire.. There's also a video shown how smooth Quake running on SGS!! - If talk about loading web page, mails index, pictures or videos gallery loading, apps loading, both processor also provide the best.. but if Android gamers wanna choose their Smartphone for gaming, Galaxy S is clear a winner of all here with it's PowerVR SGX 540 GPU!! Congratz Samsung as provide a new leader for Android flagship.. p/s: this's only a rough review by reading GSMArena, DailyMobile and TechRadar News by me.. No bluffing or bias by model for me.. Much more high-end android smartphone will enter our market but how long is it to arrive here? Droid2, DroidX, Evo 4G, Incredible and much more WCDMA users had enjoy themselves for now.. But, unfortunately for us as we only can know them by review, blogs... Much more type of processor will be created to the smartphone.. the nearest one?? 1.2 GHz two cores.. |

It seem like although PowerVR failed to challenge Nvidia/ATI, it did put to good use of its tech and thats really helping them getting the performance they need out of a mobile. |

That's their advantage to join venture in mobile industry and they were so lucky to produce such a brilliant mobile (SGS) and bring it to the top easily!!It seem like although PowerVR failed to challenge Nvidia/ATI, it did put to good use of its tech and thats really helping them getting the performance they need out of a mobile. QUOTE(ineser @ Aug 19 2010, 07:26 AM) Agreed.. TI Omap seems to be the best in making mobile cpu followed by qualcomm.. if DroidX is using the latest powerVR as in SGS, will it produce better graphics? And how bout snapdragon combined with a powerVR (dedicated), is that possible? If only the upcomming HTC using the 3rd gen snapdragon (80 million triangle persecond with only on board gpu) combined with the latest powerVR, sure is a deadly phone. But it just wont happen. 80mil triangle is superb already, and not much games/apps fully utilize it btw This post has been edited by pluginbaby: Aug 19 2010, 07:37 AM |

For sure many more unexpected high res games and memory eater Apps will coming soon.. who knows? the developer knows the challenge and users demanding for more with their smartphone.. With additional GPU, there's so high chances for Android to apply same res as Retina maybe? If only the upcomming HTC using the 3rd gen snapdragon (80 million triangle persecond with only on board gpu) combined with the latest powerVR, sure is a deadly phone. technology keeps moving ahead. when computers just got started, they were the size of a room. Then its the size of a fridge. Further reduces to a desktop size and now mobile size. You have more computing power in your hands than a whole room of computers. Perhaps next they can put the chip into your brain- cyborgs baby!

the PowerVR GPU is so powerful that it's being limited by the ARM Cortex A8!
no joke. run some 3D bench and you can see the CPU peak all the time. Snapdragon GPU is so weak that the CPU is relaxing most the time! dual core chips are coming soon. Think it's required for Ginger bread and HoneyComb? |

I think the main barrier will be the Battery life now.... u may have up to 2ghz sooner or later but if the battery life does not improve.... it will have shorter and shorter time to use it as a phone since the processor will eat up all the battery within few hours.
New battery technology should be make. |
