without VR means no vibration reduction. and it's a much older lens, i think came with D40. should find the VR version, and it's cheap anyway.

not necessary, both are just kit lens, u better save up and buy some better mid-range zoom, like celz 16-35 or 17-50 or if rich 24-70

VR n No VR is most clear when long range la...... imo long range no VR = useless!! unless u got very steady hands or stationed on tripod

VR - Vibration Control

You know when you shoot picture, sometime your hand will shake a bit right?

VR compensate it by making it steadier.

This is quite apparent when you are zooming at further range as even the slightest vibration will be amplified by the distance of zoom.

Try to post some of your pics here..and see what we can do about it

18-55 to 18-105, you gain 55-105. Plus the 18-105 looks sexier due to bigger size xD. And the front element does not move in and out when focusing!

Pump ISO to get faster shutter. No choice, live with the noise!

1st, is 'clearer', not more clear
2nd, more likely ur pics r blurred due to hand movement at low shutter speed, not not clear
3rd, if thats d limitation of ur handheld, then pump iso to use higher shutter speed, last resort, use tripod
4th, ur cam is 2nd hand or new? im blur blur here abit

if u buy 2nd hand, maybe previous owner bought D5000 then only 18-55 without VR, or any other way
so u cant blame him selling u 18-55 without VR, rite? unless he told u its D5000 kitlens or he's selling 18-55 VR

Personally I think the fact that there is NO VR on your lens is no reason to change for a bigger lens with VR, some of us actually turn off VR for certain shots. I don't know why but meh..

The thing is, if your picture is blur, there is a few things you can do. The most basic one is

1. Move around? A lot of people just pacak there and take pix by zooming in and out. Have you tried changing position and angle?

2. Bump up the shutter speed, bump up the ISO, turn down the aperture.

3. Brace yourself against the wall, the table or anything. Take a deep breath, then snap the photo.

4. Stop looking at your lens coz it fails you by not having VR, look at the lens and ask yourself. How can I fully utilize you.

Bigger lens doesn't mean its better. I walk around with only 50mm, i lament the lost of the wide angle, but still, I make do with it lah.

Learn to utilize all the semi-auto function first, then you will realise. The lens you are looking for might be different from what you thought you want.
