I can chip in some opinion regarding what you're looking for. I don't really use the iPad as a productivity device. More of an information consuming device. Its a great reading device before bed time or when I'm lazying on the couch. What I need is a device that turns on and off instantly like any other consumer electronics and doesn't require constant charging. So the iPad is perfect for some light reading, surfing and some games along the way. I also have my music library and pictures loaded too. But its more of a secondary feature for me. Say when I need it, I'll just play it. It just complements the entire experience.
What I like the iPad the most is during bed time. I use to do the same things on my mobile phone but its battery life isn't so good (using Android phone

) and the screen is smallish. I have always wanted something more longer lasting like a book. The iPad has been perfect. I'm no Apple fan, I could have been ok with any tablets but the iPad is kinda like first to market so I just get it.
I think you can use the iPad for work and studies to a certain extend. In my opinion, its good for knowledge reference. There are many apps like periodic tables and referencing apps. Its great if you want to do a quick reference on the iPad. IF you can load your entire textbook into the iPad, its better! But don't expect that to happen anytime soon (due to licensing issues, etc). You can also do office apps on the iPad if you got the keyboard dock as well.
Unfortunately if you plan to use the iPad for something more serious, you may stretching it a little too far. In which case, you can admit it that you want it for fun

I'm just sayin'
Thanks for the chipping in your opinion & also the effort put on the reply. I appreciate it.
Yup, I have to agree on the point that iPad is more of an information consuming device. I'm intending to build up a reading habit now as I think I'm not reading due to the fact that the cost of getting books that I want are really expensive and also the bulky size that is stopping me to bring it around. Reading is a good habit that I would like to build up and also keep this habit. I'm thinking of getting an e-book readers, something like Amazon Kindle but lately I have been eying on the iPad which may serve me the same purpose as well and perhaps much more.
I do not want a new iPad just for entertainment because I have got a old 1G iPod Touch which is still serving me well now. If I'm getting an iPad, I'm really looking forward on how it can improve my life in my studies or my career life in the future. Thanks for the idea on using the applications like periodic tables and referencing apps. In fact, I need to do a lot of referencing and very often find problem referencing the books/articles/journals that I want. Too bad that I cannot load the entire text book to the iPad (if i own one someday), if yes it would definitely the burden of carrying books around and also cheaper to get an e-book edition rather than getting the heavy text book that is definitely going to cost a bomb.
Well, I'm really wish to have an iPad for something more serious. That is why I'm here asking the owners of iPad on the ways it increases their life.

I always advised students /or young execs buy ipad if you already own a notebook. Don't buy it thinking it can be your substitute notebook - you will be dissapointed. It will never substitute a notebook - you can of course purchase apps to improve its usage .
I have also quoted I have no qualms spending RM7k on a macbook air for my son but I will never buy an ipad for him. If he wants , he has to earn his money somewhere somehow to get it. The ipad I'd say more for those who has the extra money to spurge on it if he has already a good notebook.

A good father. Thumbs up!
Well, did you means you always don't advice students/young executives buy iPad if already own a notebook? Disappointed? Why? Care to explain further? How bad can an iPad be substituting a notebook? Well, I have a notebook and I'm not planning to get it as an substitute but as an extra gadget to help me in life, if it can. If the applications on iPad can really make life better & enhancing more knowledge, I see no harm getting it. I was referring to strictly not using it for entertainment.

Went to Malaysia Embassy in Dublin 2 days ago for a meeting and brought my iPad along to jotdown some notes.. At the end, the meeting was delayed almost 1 hour after all embassy staffs played with my toy LoL.. Meeting went well but it was hard for them to concentrate on discussion coz they kept looking on my iPad LoLoLoL
iPad boost up your image in possessing the coolest gadget in town huh?
Well, care to share more on iPad really do help you jotting down notes and also good for attending meeting? How does you find using an iPad compare to a normal laptop? You can just bring along your laptop for jotting down notes and also attend meeting. Why would you bring you an iPad instead of a laptop which I'm sure you have one?
