If you wish to view videos in Apple's supported format : AIR VIDEO is simple and most important is fast - a 1.5 hour movie takes about 20-25 minutes compared to using example Handbrake to convert ( an hour plus ).

If you dont want to use this and willing to view it in its default formats eg avi, mov, mkv etc then use Cinexplayer ( free ) or VLC ( free ) but you still need to transfer the video files over thro iTunes which is pretty fast

Hi Benny888,
Just to check. I thought for VLC it is just a remote control to control the VLC Player on your PC i.e. you can't view the movie on the Ipad but it controls the VLC player on your PC.
Maybe I downloaded the wrong VLC app rclxub.gif

Oh ok, here is hoping that we can see vlc being perfected soon. Until then im gonna watch some shows om youtube. tongue.gif

If only we can stream videos from our pc even if they are off, then zumocast can be useful. Heck, even if they manage to make it dl the videos from our pc even if the app is close, im sold.

I use Air Video. From you Ipad you can stream to watch the Video ie. the PC must be on. But there is also a video converter option. From your Ipad select the Video you want to watch. Then from the options you can choose "convert" - this will instruct your PC Air Video Server program to convert for you. While converting you can also switch off your Ipad. The movie will be converted in your PC and later you can transfer the converted mp4 file to your Ipad. The conversion is fast - for a 350MB file it took around 10-15 mins.

So means you have to keep your Ipad connected to your PC? And the PC will stream the video and after that auto convert and load into the Ipad, even though the Ipad is swtiched off? Switch off or Sleep? smile.gif

No after you select "convert" in Ipad you can switch it off or put to sleep. The instruction is sent to your PC Air Video program to convert it on the PC. After that you can sync this file to your IPad when you connect to it via the USB cable.

Hi zerko,

I have lot of movies in my external harddisk, and based on your experience using Air Video, can I assume this app will help me to sync to my Ipad?
Thanks a lot.

As mentioned by Benny888 you should download and try...

No App can "help me to sync to my Ipad?" . You still use Itunes. What Air Video does is
1 It streams Video in formats not recognised in Ipad from your PC to Ipad. This is "live conversion" both PC and Ipad must be on.
2 Another option is it can convert those Videos not recognised by Ipad in your PC. Then only you sync it to your Ipad.

Please check out the App description in Itunes.

The Air Video in your iPad is one part. You need to go to Air Video website to download the Air Video Program for your PC (i assusme you are using Windows PC). This program must be installed in your PC for it to act as the Server to your Ipad App in your Ipad.
Please see => http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html
You need to complete the Part 2 as shown in the web page.

After that you need to link the two up i.e
1 Start the PC Air Video first.
2 In the "Remote" tab, copy down the "Server PIN" number
3 Start the Air Video App on your Ipad - In there key in the Server Pin from above - this should then connect the Ipad to your PC

After that browse from your Ipad whic movie you want to watch.
As for either "Live Conversion" or just "Convert", I have alredy described that in my Post.
Just go and try it yourself.

*** I forgot. When you start the Air Video in your PC, go to the "Shared Folders" tab. You need to add which Folders in your PC containing Videos that you allow to be viewed.

Give us a link to try. So far I have not faced such issues yet, maybe the sites I go to doesn't have so much pictures. I would think any crash is due to the memory, iPad memory is miserably low at 256 Mb , even the iphone4 memory is double it

Hi,
I am using Atomic Web browser. My opinion is it is much better (Tabs !) than Safari but recently it crashes whenever I visit to our local http://thestar.com.my Not on the main page but if you open an article/link from the main page, Atomic will sometimes crash/exit.
