Maxis Announces Data Plans For IPad with Wi-Fi + 3G in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 November - Maxis Berhad ('Maxis') today announced it will offer dedicated data plans for iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G in Malaysia beginning 30 November. All data plans will be available without a contract, providing the freedom to activate or cancel a plan at any time.

iPad allows users to connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. Users can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad's revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface.

iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G models are just 0.5 inches thick and weigh just 1.6 pounds-thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook-and deliver up to 10 hours of battery life for surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching videos or listening to music, and up to nine hours of surfing the web using a 3G data network.*

"We are glad to offer data plans in Malaysia specifically created for the magical iPad. The plans are designed to enable Maxis customers to enjoy more internet connectivity and the growing number of applications available for the rich interface, more affordably," said Jean-Pascal van Overbeke, Maxis' Chief Operating Officer. "We know that our wide community of customers will be especially pleased with this development."

For further information on iPad data plans please visit www.maxis.com.my/iPad from 30 November.

For more information about iPad please visit www.apple.com/ipad.

*Battery life depends on device settings, usage and other factors. Actual results vary.

For those wondering, WTF Why Harvey Norman of all places?
It is because those Harvey Norman outlets listed have an Apple Store-Within-A-Store

iBookStore is not available in Malaysia, so you need to create an American iTunes account. Then top up your iTunes account with credit and shop away.

Personally, I prefer Amazon's Kindle Store with their bigger selections of eBooks, and there's a free Kindle app you can download from the AppStore to sync, download and read your purchased eBooks on your iPad.
*
The iBooks app is available on iPad for Malaysia iTunes Store, but you only have the free "classics" books to download. A bit sad, actually, even the bl**dy book publishers want to have all this screwed up licensing issues for books. IT IS A BOOK. ALREADY NOBODY IS READING YOUR BOOK. THEY WANT TO BUY. WHY DON'T GIVE US A CHANCE TO BUY YOUR BOOK? shocking.gif

Anyways I have US iTunes Store account (from user skalominia on a LYN thread) brows.gif

...Haven't tried Kindle app, but have bought 1 or 2 basic books (like iPhone tips and tricks) from iBookStore. What's convenient for me is the one paid account, iTunes Store account, US one, that takes care of everything, music, movies, tv, apps, books.

Added on November 30, 2010, 10:28 pmGuys sorry I wasn't able to investigate today these iPads WHAT IS THE FIRMWARE ON IT? Your information would be most welcome.

Interestingly, the demo iPads on display have firmware "4.2" (not 4.2.1) ... Canggih ... Special build for demo iPads (well, as in one of the developer or dev gold master builds etc.

But from the iPads sold today, what is the version of the firmware on it?

Bought at Harvey Norman in Queensbay mall.  Not many people swarming to buy at Switch nor HN. Handful are at Harvey Norman. The sales persons manning at HN, are from apple distributors and can answer questions better than at Switch.

Another late comer, but hey 'Better late than never!' smile.gif

any promotion or just selling at retail price? any accessories bundle at cheaper price?

From Machines, non-Apple iPad accessories qualify for 10% discount. To be sure, check with the outlet.

It's kind of a "Facebook" promo so if you have "Liked" them on http://www.facebook.com/machines.apple.reseller
you qualify for a discount.

Though in all honesty, just go to outlet discuss with them on the specifics. I'm not 100% sure about it.
