New iPad user here smile.gif Just got my 64GB Wi-Fi iPad from Singapore on the 20th August biggrin.gif Am loving it so far (It's the only Apple product so far I'm crazy about and like), I get to read and surf when I'm away from my laptop, and it's more portable than a laptop and more functional than my phone for taking notes when I go to Uni tongue.gif

I use my phone as a Wi-Fi tether when I'm on the go and need internet, since I have a data plan on my phone.

Now I have a Windows (Laptop), an Android (Phone), and an Apple (iPad) XD

To answer the last question of yours, personally I find the iPad's battery to be more reliable and lasts longer than my VAIO laptop. The iPad also does not require wires or adapters, so I don't have to sit in my lecture hall near a power point, which is also more likely to already be used by someone too. Also, I find the iPad more portable compared to a laptop or even a netbook and does the job well enough for jotting down notes smile.gif Compared to PDA phones, which can also jot down notes, the iPad is of course bigger (And easier and faster to type, for me), and for some of my lectures holding a handphone at all times (Even if you really are jotting notes) are frowned upon as they see you as SMSing and playing with your phone- not very professional. Not to mention the drain on your phone battery too!

Another bonus, I don't get distracted by the multitasking ability of my laptop, in which I can not only jot notes, but also surf the net and also play games at the same time hahaha XD

Oh, and I am not using my iPad as a substitute for my laptop either.

The iPad's battery life is really pretty impressive. I just got mine on the 20th and only needed to charge on the 24th with quite frequent and constant usage, which for me was e-books before bed and surfing mainly, with some light note-taking smile.gif

I have yet to really try putting PPT files into my iPad yet, but some of my lecture notes are also PDF, so I really can't comment on that sad.gif I'm also looking for an app that can allow me to at least open and edit Word, Excel and PPT files, but honestly, I still like bringing a hard copy of my notes to classes to refer to (Like a textbook) and writing my own notes on my iPad tongue.gif

JB , install backgrounder, allow multitask. Quickoffice is good at us14.99 one of cheaper ones. Until today I still find the iPad keyboard not so user friendly and edits bit leceh. Keynote does good job reading PowerPoint slides. If you use default viewer, many PowerPoint slides I find is poorly display with funny fonts, margins displaced, a bit unsightly.

Thanks for the recommendation biggrin.gif Yeah one thing I don't like about typing on the iPad is that editing can be a bit troublesome, that's true. But typing, I preferr to type in landscape mode and so far no problems about it.

Yeah I guess you can say that the iPad also in a way functions as a referral device for me too, but I don't mind since that was also a reason I got it in the first place laugh.gif

Haha, I read Wiki in bed with my iPad too XD Not to mention blogs, reviews and forums!

Not a big fan of auto-complete and suggestions though. What I meant by it being hard to edit is that when you've typed up something and need to add some stuff, it's a bit hard to precisely put the blinking line in between the words and/or letters you want. Though I migt be slowly getting the hang of it now smile.gif As I've mentioned, typing isn't a problem to me overall biggrin.gif
