Well, like i said, those were the deciding factors wink.gif
i guess it matters for those with the FF bodies or planning to upgrade wan..but then, there's the 28-300 too drool.gif

like me, couldnt afford FF maa and just have to stick to crop bodies..55-300VR is almost half the price of 70-300VR with almost the same IQ, in which i think is great steal!yeap, there's some pro and cons here and there, it matter to some, some dont. icon_rolleyes.gif

28-300 is an excellent FF lens at that price. But prepared to be disappointed if you shoot people in low light. For travel use, I would rate it as my favourite.

Used to take like 5mins for windows to boot up and become usable... And LR or CS4 takes a minute or two to launch and become usable...

Now it takes less than 20 secs for windows. and LR/CS4 takes 5-10 secs to startup!! LR catalogs and previews load instantly, and no more dreaded loading when you go from grid to loupe view. selecting multiple pics n going into survey mode is super fast!! Even with 14mb NEFs!!!

Truly the best investment I've made in a long time. Better than my proc, ram and gc upgrade previously.

Game load times are sooo much shorter, and no more stuttering as the hdd spins up when entering new areas tht need new textures to be loaded.

Yup yup. Decided to go for these puppies instead of another lens or speedlight. Kinda like an early christmas gift to myself.

... I open my PC in less than 10 second boot up and open LR in less than 2-3 seconds  sweat.gif

try samsung f3 spin point and make it raid 0 for less than 400 bucks worth even more... I used to have 4 80gb ssd and raid them 0 was happy for about 1 day and hate it for another 1 week. [ well let you find why I hate it for another week cause its no fun when telling the bad stuff about good product]

Should've bought 1d mark iv  cry.gif

Bought for several month already but what the heck  sweat.gif

A few days already and I haven't hated them yet... My PC... The bios screen takes a hell long time. Once it gets to the windows part its pretty fast like you said. As for LR... Well I dunno. Maybe I've a huge catalog? And ol stuff isnt on the ssd. Been thinking of splitting up my catalogs, but lazy to do it so far.

I'm using 4x wd black 2TBs in Raid5 for my permanent storage.

Where you get those curved things in th drybox? My lenses are rolling about in mine... Have to stand on their ends, but for long teles cant stand them up.

I got it with my drybox bought from gstrapinuse. Well I have like almost 2.5 terabyte and 2k pictures in my LR... and about 1 tera specialize for my pictures only  tongue.gif seems to be rather good  icon_rolleyes.gif

and believe me... my dekstop is full of my raw pictures here and there... lazy to clean it up..  tongue.gif

Oh, I don't litter my desktop. My desktop is pretty clean hehe icon_rolleyes.gif I almost always use LR to import from the card, and file it away nicely into its own directory. Problem is my LR catalog now has like 40k pictures... I should be deleting rejects and archiving old shoots somewhere else... But I am not. Maybe starting 2011 I should start a new catalog every quarter, or half year.

For walkaround use, I'd rather have the zoom range than shallow DOF. 24-70 just does not give enough reach in many situations.

+1

Shallow DOF isn't and shouldn't be THE ONLY criteria when looking for a walkaround lens. In fact, I think this "bokeh" thing is being overdone. Its poor composition skills if you have to rely on shallow DOF to isolate your subject instead of including the background and foreground and making the picture work. Large apertures should be considered for low light work, not solely for their shallow DOF properties.
