QUOTE(ohmlawx @ Aug 24 2010, 05:06 PM)
hi,

I also updated to JG4, what I can see now it come with built in task manager. Btw, what are the different between JM6 & JG4?

Added on August 24, 2010, 5:29 pmhi again,

after updated to JG4, i find out its much faster. BTW, can we retrieve all apps that had been downloaded? Its seems updating firmware formatted the phone. Now i already lost all my apps.

one more, did updating firmware will remove "root"? If I want to "root" the phone again, can I use the same "update.zip" that i use to root before?
*
u should try Titanium Backup (from Android Market). backup all your data (or just apps) and reformat your phone a gazillion time without worrying about your apps.
if you do firmware update, it will wipe out all data, so u will need to root again. don't worry cause there's a simple rooting method (made by Ryanza of XDA forum) called "One Click Lag Fix / OCLF"

and like always, GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. remember that.. tongue.gif

just a quick question guys:

what's the least problematic firmware for SGS?

[it'd be great if there's a website doing a firmware review T__T]

No need Odin Method.
Using Market -> search for One CLick Lag Fix,download. but u need to be rooted to install

From net -> Use ur web browser and search for ryanza one click lag fix/ Samsung galaxy s lag fix. DOwnload to PC than transfer to ur Android. RUn file manager and find it in ur Android, and run it.

u were wrong, man! that is OCLF by RyanZa. very easy to apply to geeks and users alike. but voodoo lag fix is a new one. please check before reply. smile.gif

found it!
here goes nothing:

1. Open Odin
2. Add the voodoo file into the PDA part
3. Don't tick re-partition
4. No need for a .pit file
5. Attach phone in Download Mode
6. Start Flash

7. Phone will reboot and the lag fix will be applied.

i've installed voodoo lagfix, with minor problem. (my phone doesn't restart, stuck at Galaxy S logo screen) so i had to restart by pressing power switch.
startup time doesn't change, i think. my apps order were changed, some of them were lost (doing a backup restore using Titanium as i type this) hopefully i've done this right. *crossing my fingers*

not sure. as i said in my previous post, my apps order were changed. and some of them were lost (have to reinstall, luckily i've backed up all my apps before doing all that) my quadrant score is 1814 as opposed to 21xx (RyanZa). but it was a bit responsive, i think so lah.
as to how to remove this lagfix, i think its best if we do a firmware flash using ODIN method, but before that wipe/clean all data in internal SD. am i right?

EDIT: wrong quote. didn't notice. i was trying to respond to hihihehe post, actually.

i don't get it. why some people (SGS user from Malaysia or Singapore) would want to flash their firmware with European firmware (JM6 is the latest Euro firmware i think). mind telling me the benefit of flashing to European f/w, anyone?

just for fun? i don't think so, mate. some people said that most of SGS problems were fixed or WILL be fixed by european f/w.
this suggests that Samsung UK are always listening to customers feedback and REALLY commited to fix any problems, to name a few: GPS slow fix (i got this problem), inadequate sound quality when using headphone (check XDA forum, a thread started by supercurio) and the famous "Lag problem"
then again, this is only a rumor (started by me, i might add)

Probably Froyo.
*
i was wrong. the latest European fw is XXJM7.
what's so good about froyo, if i can't use my GPS properly and the phone still lags? BTW i've installed more than 100 apps. i've used iphone before, never lag even though i got many apps installed. some thing is terribly wrong with Samsung. they make great hardware, but failed somewhere in software department.

Trial and error I guess, to see which one suits our taste better.

I guess it's like trying to date asian, european, african, and whatever other regional females/males.
*
*assuming that you're responding to my post*
hahaha that was so damn funny! i envy them coz they got so many free time (and patience) to do all that firmware flashing stuffs.
if only swype malay dictionary can be install/ported to european FW, i'd be happy to flash to those FW.
*sigh*

hey MYstombox.
what do you mean by "memory kill level too low"?
i'm assuming u're talking about memory management. i've tried Auto Killer (free from Market) and it doesn't yield any significant improvements.
what are your suggestion? (i am using "voodoo lagfix beta 1" by supercurio right now)

QUOTE(MYstombox @ Sep 6 2010, 01:16 AM)
Don't use auto killer, infact, I suggest you remove any autokiller, task killer or anything of that sort. Instead, configure android's own task manager by doing the following.

You have root access?

If you do, follow the following:

Download minfreemanager from market
Grant it super user access.

Enter the following memory levels:
Starting from foreground app to empty app, in these values
10, 16, 24, ,40,64,96

Once you enter these values, save it as a custom preset
You will need to apply these every time you restart the phone - this is a safety feature in case the phone has issues, so don't worry.

Once you have done this, you can check that it has been applied by using 'Android system info', go to 'system' under 'low memory kill levels', open the drop box and you will see the values you entered above.

Use this config for 2-3 days with your regular usage habits and report back if you feel any improvement.

will do, mate. very nice indeed.
will report my finding later. thanks once again.
