This post is for SGS users who wants to use offline GPS.
My hardware:-
FW: DXJG4
One-Click Laxfix 2.3
Additional 16GB Sandisk SD.
I found a android navigation software called Navit. Navit gives us Turn By Turn Navigation!!
The android port can be found here:
U hv 2 choices to download the maps:-
1. Download the map from here:
Be advice, for the map to be generated, u need to tell the site which area of the map u want. Once u hv "covered" the area of the map,
then click the Get Map button.
Rename the map to: navitmap.bin and store it to the INTERNAL sdcard root directory.
2. Download the other map from here. Be advice, the map is dated 27th July 2010.
Be advice, the map is from OpenStreetMap therefore NOT all roads are there.
Experience with Navit:
1. When u start up Navit, the app will ask u to download the TTS (Text To Speech) apps
2. GPS working quite fast depending where u r n the weather. Yesterday evening, with a bit cloudy conditions, i got a GPS lock while i was on a train platform at the old KL Station (near to the masjid negara). While i was on the train, can't get a GPS lock at all.
3. At night, when i was in Klang, tried again, this time got a lock. Set the direction im going and did give me a Turn By Turn Navigation. Since the speech is in english, the pronunciation for our road names could be a bit tricky.
Anyway, since it's free and helps me to navigate, it's good for me!
My 5cents worth of GPS Navigation introduction.....

i had downloaded the map & navit-current.apk and install to my sgs, but blank screen when i open it.
Do we need to root to use this app? The size of my klang valley map only 48mb, is that too small?
