This post is for SGS users who wants to use offline GPS.

My hardware:-
    FW: DXJG4
    One-Click Laxfix 2.3
CODE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751864

    Additional 16GB Sandisk SD.
I found a android navigation software called Navit. Navit gives us Turn By Turn Navigation!!

The android port can be found here:

CODE
http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Navit_on_Android

U hv 2 choices to download the maps:-

1. Download the map from here:

CODE
http://maps.navit-project.org/download/

Be advice, for the map to be generated, u need to tell the site which area of the map u want. Once u hv "covered" the area of the map,
then click the Get Map button.

Rename the map to: navitmap.bin and store it to the INTERNAL sdcard root directory.

2. Download the other map from here. Be advice, the map is dated 27th July 2010.

CODE
http://downloads.cloudmade.com/asia/malaysia/malaysia.navit.bin.zip

Be advice, the map is from OpenStreetMap therefore NOT all roads are there.

CODE

Experience with Navit:
1. When u start up Navit, the app will ask u to download the TTS (Text To Speech) apps
2. GPS working quite fast depending where u r n the weather. Yesterday evening, with a bit cloudy conditions, i got a GPS lock while i was on a train platform at the old KL Station (near to the masjid negara). While i was on the train, can't get a GPS lock at all.
3. At night, when i was in Klang, tried again, this time got a lock. Set the direction im going and did give me a Turn By Turn Navigation. Since the speech is in english, the pronunciation for our road names could be a bit tricky. tongue.gif

Anyway, since it's free and helps me to navigate, it's good for me! biggrin.gif
My 5cents worth of GPS Navigation introduction.....

Fren, Do you mind to share the step by step way to install this offline Navigator?

i had downloaded the map & navit-current.apk and install to my sgs, but blank screen when i open it.
Do we need to root to use this app? The size of my klang valley map only 48mb, is that too small?

If you're not planning to root or flash your SGS, then you'll just have to wait until official firmware updates appear via the Kies software.

As for why Samsung Malaysia has not announced anything officially, please contact them and ask. Even till now I see nothing mentioned about the DXJG4 official firmware update on Samsung's site, which has already been available for some time now.

As I dun knw how to root or flash, the only choice I have is to wait for the official firmware.
btw I can’t install the kies software into my Pc (win xp sp2), always terminate when reach step 3…

u mean u r having Brut & PaPago M6 on your SGS?
Do we need to root to install Brut? What maps u r using for Brut?
Can Brut & PaPago M6 share the same maps file?

I m using Rmaps (map apps) & PaPago M6, and they cant share the maps file. klang valley maps for rmap occupy 300mb of my space, while mfm-papago occupy another 300mb storage space.

I really dun understand why ppl willing to pay RM350 (RM2050-RM1699) extra for something without warranty.
RM350 is enuff for you to subscribe the maxis data plan (500mb) for 7 mths, u just have to pay the remaining 5 mths to fulfill the contract.

Does any SGS preloaded with voice search (microphone button on the Google search box on your home screen)? I had installed VoiceSearch_2.1.apk into my SGS, but it does not work well, always pop up “connection problem” even I had connected to wifi.

What is the difference between google voice search & voice actions? Are they the same?

However, it does not work under wifi. Anyone is facing the same problem?
