Thank, i saw that link prior to post the question, trying very best to undertstand what is samset via XDA, but on the above link, it only taught how to install, and something like u need the certain firmware before u can install the samset. Because of this, got me real puzzled... rclxub.gif

Googled also cant get the answer, therefore my last place to post the question is here.

Easily put
1. Android is the OS

2. Firmware is use version of os, like Windows Vista Service Pack 20

3. Rom is the files needed to install the Firmwire, comparable to Drivers.  ----- According to the 1st page of this thread, there is 2 ways of installing firmwares, 1 is via update.zip, another way is using odin.

If by ur explanation, u mean we can use samset to install the firmware (eg DXJG4)?  I didnt not install any samset, but i can still install the XWJM5 via odin3.

*
Sorry man, i am just trying to get a full understand of what is what...
Flashing is real fun, but i m coming to a point to ask myself what is samset now, as i kept seeing this on the XDA but no proper explanation offered. icon_question.gif

samset is just the name for that Custom rom.

Custom rom means, developer takes official firmware and modify it. That's custom rom.

Jujx... Thank a million. That clear my doubt completely now. ;-)

guys if one of my friend wants to buy this SGS, do you recommend to buy it know or wait for the successor to come?
*
Buy now or later really not much different if the reason is due to the firmware. As u can update it once it come out.

The ODIN version of JPC from XDA do not need CODE, MODEM & PIT, just put the tar file in PDA will do.
*
That one i downloaded got 2 version, V1 - Lite, V2 - Full, of which i downloaded the Full version, but it is a .zip files, when i open it, it does not contact any .tar.. Opened it contain 2 folders ie META-INF, SYSTEM

Added on August 31, 2010, 11:05 amSince SamFirmwares asked us to wait few more days, i think i shall put an handbrake for the time being, and wait for the official release from SamFirmwares.

Well, i could also flash to the HK version i guess, if i so wanted the Froyo.. :-)

the one you downloaded is NOT the firmware  sweat.gif  its a custom rom, you must flash first to JPC and then apply the lite or full

im sure what you downloaded is update.zip, do you even read the instruction/guide/info on the page you downloaded?
*
I just figured out that is a update.zip files..

Thank Silentser... as mentioned earlier, i think i m just gonna wait till the new Froyo.. (if i m able to tahan not to flash to Froyo :-p), otherwise just go to TGYZSJP2, since it is at the SamFirmware site. Think shd be ok.

Just flashed to TGYZSJP2... very fast, havent install any lagfix yet.

Noted a problem, on previous FW, JM5
when i type msg, for example the word 'welcome' say i want to go back to 'c' i just hold the 'abc' button, hence the arrow will pop out for me to move there, but u cant do it on JP2... any other way to get this done?

Added on September 1, 2010, 1:11 amQuadrant score 1006 - that is w/out lagfix

Added on September 1, 2010, 1:13 amAlso, my samsung apps only have 2 items for installation: History and Robert Parker.

Anyway to increase it, at least i would like to have Asphalt5, Krazy Kart and also Facebook S..

Samsung apps are pushed based on region.
I am getting some arabic stuff that I didn't get on asian FW.

Thank.
Wow.. if it is based on region, then HK is real pathetic, as there is only 2 apps, History and Robert Parker.

Good question.
Personally, I didnt find it better than facebook for android
*
If ur facebook for android is the version 1.3.2 than it is ok, as it is an upgraded version.

Here another link for those who want the Samsung apps and cant get it from the Samsung Application.

just read that there was a new lag fix called voodoo..
currently in beta version and they reported it is faster than 1 click lag fix,etc..
it completely change the filesystem and there is no lag AT ALL...
for example, you still can play around when u installing app without any lag..

Sadly... not ready for Froyo to use yet sad.gif
