reporting in from work.. lol

anyone here has taken uposatha 8 precepts before? please share
*
Did it quite a few times for a 3 day retreat Thai monks visit KL
8 precepts not hard, just addition of 3 precept from the usual 5 which includes
1) No meal after lunch, as in full solid meal like rice meat etc., so what i usually do when i feel a bit of hunger pang is to drink milo / cereal drink which is provided thumbup.gif
2) No entertainment, beautifying or using perfume etc
Quite easily done since the main time in retreat is used on meditation and developing oneself
3) refrain from lying on a high or luxurious sleeping place
Just remove the mattress from the bed and lay the mattress on the floor, easily done icon_rolleyes.gif

Btw I am new to this tered, anyone here interested in Tibetan Buddhism/ Vajrayana?
I am finding myself very curiously attracted to it blush.gif

The 3rd precept is different. In Uposatha it expands to cover all sexual activities.
Got 3-day retreat? Usually we are encouraged to go for one week or more, but I don't have that much time  sweat.gif

yeap got 3 days retreat... its a more simple and suitable one for the laypeople who are still not really cut off from the worldly concerns tongue.gif
actually i think it all depends on which association organizing the retreat and what are the ground rules for it, i went for 3 days from friday night to sunday evening
usually i think 7-8 days are more suitable for retirees who have more free time unless you are the type who are firm and ready to walk on the Path

Where is that ? Care to share ? What he meant by sexual activities ? Male and female stay together ?
*
Hi, sorry for the late reply.
One of the place I know of would be Subang Jaya Buddhist Association, usually some Thai Monks will be here for 3 days to teach a short meditation retreat for once every 3-4 months.
Usually in retreats, male and female are separated into different dormitory/ buildings during the retreat course.

Thank you. I just come back from a religious research trip.
How much do they charge ? If profit making ones, I will not join.
*
It's not profit making, however you're free to contribute however much you want towards certain expenses such as air ticket for the monk etc etc.
I'm pretty sure there are also a lot more of meditation retreat conducted by various organizations, just need to look around for it biggrin.gif

SJBA got Thai monks? It used to be Burmese monks of Mahasi Sayadaw tradition.
*
Yes, the resident monks are following Burmese tradition but sometimes there are visiting monks from Thailand/other countries who come to stay for a few days/ week to give dharma talk/ retreat.
Just last month Ajahn Brahm came over for a week to give guidance for the Nun's Novitiate Program smile.gif
