interesting, i always dedicate merit to all beings including the hungry ghosts. eh bro, i want to learn from you. interested to meet up?
*
Dear brother, this does not mean no one will benefit from sharing of merits to the departed, even if your immediate relatives are not in the ghost realm.

The Buddha said, in our infinite past in Samsara, there will be bound to have our past relatives etc that is still suffering in there that will benefit from our acts of charity.

Buddha is Indian, ori Buddhist sutras are in Indo-Aryan languages. What's Chinese got to do with it?

Mahayana buddhism (sanskrit) ---> tibet ---> china/japan/korea ---> chinese language Most chinese material on buddhism is dominated by Mahayana tradition.

Theravada buddhism (pali language) ---> sri lanka ---> burma/ thailand/ cambodia ----> native language of burma/ thailand. Very few people outside of these countries know about this tradition.

Angmoh (british) came during colonial era ---> contact with this teaching--> help translate it out to English.

Most Theravada materials are in English , although there is great effort to translate more of it to Chinese language.

Immediate family of the Buddha

1. King Suddhodana (Father) - Became a lay arahant

2. Queen Maha Maya (Mother) - Passed away 7 days after giving birth to the Buddha, reborn as a deva (god) in Tusita realm.

3. Maha Pajapati Gotami (sister of Queen Maya who nursed and took care of the young Sidartha) - became an arahant (female nun)

4. Yasodhara (sidarta's wife) - She attained Arahanthship and was declared the chief disciple among the nuns who attained supernormal powers (Maha Abhiaaa) to recall infinite eras of the past.

5. Rahula (buddha's son) - Became arahant. Rahula passed away before the Buddha, Sariputta and Moggallana. The Buddha declared that Rahula was foremost among the monks for his high standard of discipline and obedience. Rahula, who had entered the order at the tender age of seven, was a role model for the younger members of the Noble Order through his obedience and pleasing nature.

As we can see, all the Buddha's family benefited from Buddha's enlightenment. The Buddha gave them the deathless state, and certainly did not abandon them after attaining enlightenment

I've found out something extremely interesting in Buddhism.

Can any Buddhist here confirm this? The Kalama Sutta and some quotes in Buddhism appear to suggest that we should always question everything including religion, and it appears to encourage us to be atheists or even an anti-theist.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalama_Sutta

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%8Dan

QUOTE
The Kalama Sutta states (Pali expression in parentheses):

Do not go upon what has been acquired by repeated hearing (anussava),
nor upon tradition (paramparā),
nor upon rumor (itikirā),
nor upon what is in a scripture (piṭaka-sampadāna)
nor upon surmise (takka-hetu),
nor upon an axiom (naya-hetu),
nor upon specious reasoning (ākāra-parivitakka),
nor upon a bias towards a notion that has been pondered over (diṭṭhi-nijjhān-akkh-antiyā),
nor upon another's seeming ability (bhabba-rūpatāya),
nor upon the consideration, The monk is our teacher (samaṇo no garū)
Kalamas, when you yourselves know: "These things are good; these things are not blamable; these things are praised by the wise; undertaken and observed, these things lead to benefit and happiness," enter on and abide in them.'

QUOTE
If you meet the Buddha, kill him. (逢佛殺佛)

— Linji
Thinking about the Buddha as an entity or deity is delusion, not awakening. One must destroy the preconception of the Buddha as separate and external before one can become internally as their own Buddha. Zen master Shunryu Suzuki wrote in Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind during an introduction to Zazen,

Kill the Buddha if the Buddha exists somewhere else. Kill the Buddha, because you should resume your own Buddha nature.

One is only able to see a Buddha as he exists in separation from Buddha; the mind of the practitioner is thus still holding onto apparent duality.

And I've even heard this from one of my former Buddhist friend that made him an atheist:

QUOTE
"Even gods need enlightenment, they are not perfect."

What makes you think it's a spirit that is disturbing you?

I am ex-christian but the only issue i encounter is my own mind-made obstacle and fear of leaving the religion.

just let us know why you think it's spirit that is bothering you, could it also be your own subconscious?

hi,
my case are quite different from you all , yes it is indeed holy spirit harass me most of the time.
i keep refuse and resist everything, the LORD indeed want me to abandone my degree as well. luckily i did pass and the degree cert.
and yes i did join churches before, the "lord" really want me to forsake everything, my career, my loves one, my relatives, almost everything, like an child being abandoned. if my parents help me on anything that benefits me, the force will use many ways to create conflict and cause many unexplained/weird damage between me and my family, sometimes my friends.
secondly, demons and christ angels(holy spirit) are partners/friends in term of real relationship. They use each other for own purposes sometimes.

i am not 神经病/psycho/insane people, this situation is real. Anything to do with my gain of my need, especially money, they will heavily interfere.

So even if i become atheist, they will still harrass me, because i have no protection. therefore the only way is Buddhism, the another authority which is the only the power can protect me. I understand how the spiritual force works in the universe.

this time i don't think can take it anymore. it has reached my max limit of patience level . if the holy spirit appear in the flesh, i would use knife /gun or anything straight kill him without any second thought .

Anyway, any good buddhist temple in Malaysia? i need the genuine one. i really have no choice anymore. I do not need you to understand my situation, i just need to find a genuine buddhist temple, and slowly become vegetarian. and repay all my debt.
