Yo fella health nuts! smile.gif

I just want to clarify with a question. I exercise with Jumpjacks, Bicycle Kicks (legs on the floor and hands in push up stance), Squad Jumps, Push Ups and use Dumbells around the late morning hour (I.E 11am - 12pm)
Then I'll go for a 30 minute to an Hour jog at 5.30pm

Is that alright if I'm doing it everyday?

I'm experienced in doing exercise. Used to be a Competitive Swimmer back in Junior Grade but I'm a Competitive eater. I eat a lot sad.gif

I do even less than 20% of what you do in terms of cardio and I'm maintaining below 8.5% bodyfat. If cardiovascular health is your main concern, I guess whatever floats your boat but fat loss.....? Too much effort.

I just diet and hit gym 2-3 times a week. All this HIIT and all that is kinda redundant. You lose fat through dieting and minimalist hypertrophy training, not going crazy being a cardio bunny.

Can you keep it up? Ask yourself why people fail normally. Getting to a low bodyfat level is already difficult for most. MAINTAINING that low bodyfat level is even harder. Why? For most people:-
1. It's not fun.
2. They burn out because they depend way too much on cardio for bodyfat loss
3. Their diet sucks, they either go too aggressively low on a caloric deficit and cause a rebound weight gain or they think they can out train a bad diet.
4. They NEVER, ever, ever think long term. They just want to get in shape for some event, bla bla.

Been doing it since January after exams. If I get those sores, I usually rest a day or two, but I'll go on when it's fine.

I have question. Currently I'm using HRM to monitor the calories burnt throughout my workout but I am wondering about the calories burnt during cardio and the calories burnt during weight training. Will it be accurate for both?

If let's say the HRM is accurate for cardio, then is there a way to count the calories burnt during weight training?

I've read that HRM is not accurate as heartrate is affected by various environment factor such as temperature and such. Even if you consume caffeine, it might affect your heart rate too.

So i've been reading around and some said monitoring your heartrate is a proper way to monitor your workout program...some said it is not accurate..

Confuse la wei........

anybody care to give some input?

Firstly heart rate is not a direct indicator of caloric burn during exercise.

HRMs do not measure caloric expenditure neither directly nor indirectly. HRMs measure heart rate and that's it. They estimate caloric expenditure during steady-state cardiovascular exercise using the relationship between heart rate and oxygen uptake (VO2). The most direct method for measuring caloric expenditure is to measure oxygen uptake (VO2).

HRMs only indirectly estimate calories expended during certain types of exercise. Unless they are set up properly and the profile information updated regularly, they can have significant inaccuracies. And not all HRMs are the same.

Ah..thanks for explaining to me...now I know...did some searching and found out..it is hard to count the exact calories burnt during the workout because each training is different. Unless you have an oxygen mask on and on treadmill to get your max VO2, if not it will be not accurate. Even the if the watch has the funtion for you to key in VO2 data, you will be just estimating.

Hm...i've answer my question...

So beside monitoring the heartrate, is VO2 parameter is vital for fitness program?

maybe this link might help for ppl who wanted to buy a HRM

Worry less bout the HRM, we use HRM to see how much our heart can we take, are exercising at our best effort rather than calories burned per hr.. It is possible to get quite accurate calories burning rate but you would have to calibrate your HR to your body.. It's very costly to do that and only professional athlete does that usually..

=( can you guys like... not overanalyze so much, stop going so much into details about the finer and intrinsic points of dieting and just cut calories? Trust me it's easy to lose bf%. It starts getting insanely hard when you're already lean and want to hit a single digit %.

All you need is to pick a diet program which you think you can ENJOY and stick with it LONG TERM, possibly for LIFE.

When you hear shit like.... Body transformation in 12 weeks, or a product commercial which says it's a MUST to use for fat loss, ditch it. Drop it like it's hot. All short term crash course crap.

hmm sad that most hostel doesn't allow home cook.. it's the healthiest and cheapest way to getting your stomach filled.. eating outside for good isn't impossible, just bloody expensive as in those organic shop so on and on..
