I have question. Currently I'm using HRM to monitor the calories burnt throughout my workout but I am wondering about the calories burnt during cardio and the calories burnt during weight training. Will it be accurate for both?
If let's say the HRM is accurate for cardio, then is there a way to count the calories burnt during weight training?
I've read that HRM is not accurate as heartrate is affected by various environment factor such as temperature and such. Even if you consume caffeine, it might affect your heart rate too.
So i've been reading around and some said monitoring your heartrate is a proper way to monitor your workout program...some said it is not accurate..
Confuse la wei........
anybody care to give some input?
Firstly heart rate is not a direct indicator of caloric burn during exercise.
HRMs do not measure caloric expenditure neither directly nor indirectly. HRMs measure heart rate and that's it. They estimate caloric expenditure during steady-state cardiovascular exercise using the relationship between heart rate and oxygen uptake (VO2). The most direct method for measuring caloric expenditure is to measure oxygen uptake (VO2).
HRMs only indirectly estimate calories expended during certain types of exercise. Unless they are set up properly and the profile information updated regularly, they can have significant inaccuracies. And not all HRMs are the same.
