Hello all, this is the first time I'm posting at Health & Fitness session.

I would like to check with you all which brand of low-fat milk that you all recommend for weight loss.

I'm currently drink Dutch lady and was thinking is this a good one.

Thanks all.

the small differences in brand, does it matter in the long run of weight loss? in fact, i was comparing full cream and 99% skim milk 3 litre the other day, and i realize the fat content differs by about 10 gram only. sure, on percentage low fat may have a 100% reduction of fat, but at the end of the day thats only 10 gram per 3L ie. about 3 gram per litre. I think if u really want to get rid of 10g of fat from your 1 week of diet, then just skip 1 piece of roti canai - i think that 1 piece have more fatty oil than 3L of milk!

Of course there's a psychological element to it, people think "drink low fat means less fat" and that makes them feel better, i think that psychological factor is beneficial. it goes straight to the point ie. Why do you wanna lose weight? so you can look good and be healthier which means overall, you feel better about yourself.

So at the end of the day, these small things doesnt matter. What matter most is the basic principle of weight lose: eat less, exercise more. other things are just to small to make a difference to the overall weight lose progress, so my advise is dont worry about the brand of your milk smile.gif

Thank you very much for your clear & detail explanations rclxms.gif I appreciate it.
So, I shall plan about about eat less, exercise more instead of worrying about the brand of milk that I consume.
The milk that stated "low fat" is just another branding/packaging gimmicks that trying to attract customers huh. laugh.gif

Yes, I believe it's a marketing gimmick more than anything. Of course, they say every reduction helps. But what ironic is the mentality of the population, say don't wanna consume fat so buy low fat milk but the next day u see him/her having nasi lemak/roti/mi goreng with teh Tarik at mamak. If really wanna reduce fat intake, it's the whole lifestyle that needs reviewing, not just switching from full cream to low fat. So don't worry about your Dutch Lady milk, I think I used to have that back in Malaysia too biggrin.gif

Low fat milk is not a marketing gimmick. It is what it says, milk that is lower in fat. The one I have in the fridge has about 1.5g of fat per 100 ml, the full cream version clocks in at around 5g of fat per 100ml. The full cream version tastes better and smoother compared to the low fat version because of the higher fat content.

Even if you're intent on losing weight, fat is still required for vital bodily functions. All these foods are just different tools for you. Your results will depend on what you use your tools for.

hey hey everyone ^^

I kinda have a prob with losing weight. I'm not fat, but i would love to ditch the excess fat off my body. Right now I'm 161 cm weighing at 51kg but even at this weight I kinda have a double chin and spare tire. T_T my target weight would be 45kg but I don't quite know how to get there.

I dont really get to move around much at the office but I do play badminton 2-4 hours on a weekly basis.
my general eating pattern is something like this :-

Breakfast: 2 pcs of high fibre crackers with cheese and a cup of milo / milk and cereal

Lunch: veggies / proper meal +fruit juice

dinner : veggies / proper meal + fruit juice

^^ If I eat veggies only for lunch, I'd eat a normal meal ( eg, rice + side dishes, noodles ... etc) for dinner and vise versa. I don't normally snack inbetween, but sometimes during tea time I'd have a cup of vico.

: ( can anyone help me? I know I eat much less than people way thinner than me + I exercise too so i don't really know what's my prob... >_< some of my friends are advicing me to quit badminton and go gym a few times a week but I honestly .. rather not. Would u guys suggest to change something in my diet or perhaps lilfestyle? *_* sometimes I feel like i wanna try those weight lost pill/juice thingys like S.I.Y... what do u guys think abt that sorta product? just a gimmick or perhaps might help me? D: thx in advance biggrin.gif

Your problem -----> 2-4 hours on a weekly basis
Your solution ------> go gym a few times a week
If you're up for a change in lifestyle, then I don't think you should be complaining about the gym part, or working out more often for that matter. Go run/cycle/swim if you have the time, and if u can't find any, MAKE IT, and stop giving excuses to YOURSELF mate. You already know what you need to do, its a matter of getting your elbows dirty. Its no use if the guys here are gonna have to tell you what workouts to do and all if you're not gonna be bothered in the first place.
This was the statement that irked me though ------> "some of my friends are advicing me to quit badminton and go gym a few times a week but I honestly .. rather not
NO, you don't have to quit your 2-4hours of badminton a week *assuming thats the figure you're implying in your sentence*. Instead, just hustle a lil' more if you wanna see a change. Hey, it worked for me, and almost all the guys and girls who were taking this thread seriously and actually bothering to make a change, so yeah, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!! flex.gif

It's down to taste preference and price.

The difference in nutrition is almost negligible.

Added on January 13, 2011, 11:02 amBtw I'd go for fresh milk instead of skim milk.

oh, I didn't realize 2-4 hours of badminton wasn't enough. ^^;; and I'm not making excuses. Time is a luxury I do not have sadly, that's why I was wondering is gym would be a better option as compared to badminton for the same amount of time taken. Thanks for the encouragement though! yaaa I can do it! biggrin.gif

^^ was wondering, if I'd do gym~ what sort of exercises should i do? treadmill ? others? thx thx

Skim milk? hmm.gif

I'm sorry. I have been seeing this term "skim milk" for quite many times but I didn't really know what is this.

Er, can this one be bought at any grocery store/hypermarket?

And, any recommended brand?

Anyway sorry if this question sounds stupid. notworthy.gif
