Currently my center speaker is placed just above my AVR, what i wanted to ask is:

1. Is the center speaker sitting too low on the ground?
2. Whats the ideal height to sit the speaker at ?
3. Should i hang the center speaker on the wall using nails or put up a shelve to let the speaker sit on it?

Currently my TV 32" LCD sit around 5ft off the ground and the L/R speaker is at 4ft. The IKEA table is around 2ft tall so the the Center speaker should be 1ft of the ground. My Surround speakers both sits at 7ft on a 5% angle from my sitting position.

When watching a movie or listening to music i tend to focus alot on the sound coming from below rather than focusing on the tv which makes it kinda awkward to watch/listen for extended periods of time blink.gif .

Thanks in advance for the advice rclxms.gif

please read this:

best is the LCR at ear levels while you're sitting watching movies. rear speakers should be about 2-3 feet higher.

Both speakers L/R is at my ear level in my sitting position. As you can see form my photo i cant really place the center speaker at the same level as the L/R speaker so i might put it slightly below ear level under the TV.

Okay 1st and 2nd question answered. What about 3? should it be a difference if i hang the speaker with nails via the keyholes at the back of the speaker or place the speaker on a shelve?

As for my rear speakers i had no choice but to put them higher than normal as you can see the spot is taken up the wardrobe and the window. If i would put them lower (on speaker stands, it would get in the way of my wardrobe door and my bed which sits directly under the speaker and the left edge of the window.

Lol i know my placement is kinda wierd.

Before the contractor drill the holes to put up the LCD wall mount i specifically ask him to drill the holes at my eye level (sitting down and centered) but it seems he did not understand and hammered the metal wall plug + screw into the wall with LCD bottom is at eye level, i had to make do with the LCD placement as taking out the metal wall plug + screw (iam using metal inverted screws where you tighten thru the nut.) would require me making a big mess on my wall.

I did ask the contractor to redo the wall mount and patch up the holes and he was arguing with me that takes alot of work and requested extra money so i got fed up and used the placement instead.

As for the rear speaker you see that the wardrobe and windows are in the way, if i were to place them any lower they would get in the way of my bed and the wardrobe so i had to place them higher.

make sure that the center and fronts are not more than 2 feet vertcally spaced. the center should also be tilted so that it's facing your face.

if you can hook the center to your wall, why not?

By "not more than 2 feet vertcally spaced" do you mean horizontally?

What he means is Why your Center so low and your Front speakers so high (vertically).

As for Horizontally, you should spread your Fronts further apart, if not the Stereo and surround effects are lost.

Ahhh sry misunderstood the statement blush.gif

As you can see from my picture, my Left speaker is at the edge of my work desk.

The desk extends from the adjacent wall until the edge you see in the picture. If i were to spread them further apart, i would have to get 2 wall mount to mount the speaker in which will obstruct (Left) my workspace and (Right) the door to my room.

I know that without proper spacing the effect of surround sound would diminished but i have very little space to work with as of now.

With these constrain i would like to maximize whatever that's left as this system is meant for personal enjoyment.

Thanks you for all the pointers rclxms.gif

To understand the situation better i have included a rough layout of my room .

Your TV is too high..lower it a bit. The center speaker should be below the TV. Front speakers should be slightly apart to provide a sense of spaciousness..lower the front speakers too.
Get another contractor to do it for you....he is stupid, where got ppl see the TV so high one..wanna break the neck is it?....patching the wall back is no big deal. And the 32inch TV is not that heavy to dismantle. But this time make sure what you want.

Yours surrounds should be much lower too to lessen the distance. If you can't do it, put it on stands...you can actually mount the front speakers to the wall and use that stands for the rears

I modify the picture a bit, sorry for the choppy picture

If you still think the TV is too high..try this..but make sure whatever it is, the center speaker MUST be angled towards your face (err ears actually)

Seriously, i think your amp is going to suffer from heat due to the small space you put it in.

You you need to widen the sound stage and put the right speaker nearer the door
[attachmentid=1714648]

or..to give a better surround effect + you can view the TV from the Bed try this layout

Thanks for the loads of info azbro.

My room is filled with furniture right now so any movement of the speakers is nearly impossible unless i redo everything by moving everything out again. I will try and lower the TV and put the speaker apart more but i would have to follow back the current layout.

Thanks for the suggestion rclxms.gif

Sure bro...but if you are comfortable with the rears and the fronts + the high TV.....you can just locate the center at the bottom of the TV..settle
