Based on their 1 Dec pricelist, czone is now selling OCZ Vertex 2 60GB @ RM529. Previously it was RM589.
Do you think this is a good deal?

Bought an OCZ Vertex II 120GB yesterday. Tested on an old amd rig (the SSD is actually meant for my upcoming Sandy Bridge rig tongue.gif), results are disappointing. Is it due to the nForce chipset on the mobo? - http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/content.php?S_ID=175

Looks pretty good to me. Except random read.

Since you have an OS installed, the benching results gets a tad funny. Plus the DuraWrite might have kicked in depending on how many times you have stressed tested the SSD.
Random Write is super, but Random read is indeed a bit low. Try playing some music on the background, it helps in the random read speed. Seriously

PS: 5x1GB is pretty darn hardcore to test an ssd. Try running it at 3x100MB, gives about the same result, minus the write stress on it.
How does it feel running on an old rig? Snappy?
*
Yeah it feels really snappy. Loading JDownloader doesn't slow down the system anymore, plus system shutdown and boot is really fast, as expected.
I plugged in my previous HDD with the OS and all still intact, and the difference is kinda like going back to a 1MB Streamyx line from a 20MB Unifi line. laugh.gif

After hearing the latest news, thank god I haven't switched to Sandy Bridge. Perhaps I'll let this SSD stay in this old rig. laugh.gif

The cheapest OCZ Vertex 2 120GB available today is only RM839 for RM6.99/GB.

Actually the cheapest that I've encountered (and bought tongue.gif) is RM799 at viewnet.

Did anyone face the current problem of OCZ Vertex 2?
OCZ used 25nm NAND Flash in this part.
The usable capacity (56GB (34nm) -> 51GB (25nm)) and speed are both influenced... Be careful.

Oh, only the 60GB models are affected. Thank goodness.

It actually affects the 120GB (OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G) editions as well.

Added on February 25, 2011, 2:47 amSome data for the Vertex 3 (non-Pro) came out. Initial pricing will be around RM766.22 for a 120GB and around 1,532.47 for a 240GB. Hopefully there won't be much of a markup.

Speak of the devil! Mine is not the affected 'E' models, but suddenly it can't be detected in bios anymore! Can't boot at all. A few hours back it was working fine.

I googled and discovered quite a few users with this problem. Time to RMA I guess. BTW, I bought this drive on 25th of January this year. Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it

Upon further inspection, mine is actually the 'E' model... doh.gif
The capacity however was 111.75GB, which is listed as OCZSSD2-2VTX120G on the link above. The box however says OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G. hmm.gif

Anyways here's the latest response on this issue from ocz:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/co...e-driven-drives

QUOTE
For those customers that have already purchased an “E” part and wish to move to a 32 Gbit die based drive solution, OCZ has a program in place where customers can trade in their “E” drive for a 32Gbit die based drive. This replacement will be made with no cost to the consumer. OCZ will ship the replacement drive once the original “E” drive is received. If you are interested in an exchange please contact an OCZ customer service representative and we will be happy to assist you.

I'm planning to get 120gb ssd soon. which one is better in terms of performance and power consumption? will use it on my lappie..

Corsair F120 or OCZ Vertex 2 120gb?

thaks in advance.
*
Should you decide to purchase the Vertex 2 make sure that the model is not
OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G

Check the barcode on the box, make sure it's this one, without the 'E'.
OCZSSD2-2VTX120G

Not sure about the Corsair SSDs but I'd avoid OCZ for now... at least the 120GB models.

Just received my replacement today! I RMA directly with OCZ (just sent the ssd itself, around RM185 for shipping via UPS, sweat.gif ), and in return they gave me a brand new, complete with all accessories, shrink wrapped, the faster, non 'E' model. rclxm9.gif
Took them 8 days to send the drive back to me though, due to the high number of customers swapping the models.

Anyways if the serial number of your OCZ drive is similar to the following, you're more likely to RMA it since it's supposedly a problematic batch..
CODE
SN018131xxxxxxxxx

I still have the box of the drive that I rma-ed, and yup, the serial number is similar to the above. I could have gone to Viewnet and RMA it for free but most likely they would replace it with the same 'E' model.
QUOTE(raist86 @ Mar 21 2011, 11:32 AM)
if intel, which model? X-25 ?
I can get Corsair F120 (RM 740) from LYP which is think is a very good price.. just want to know the reliability of the product cos heard they got firmware issues..

Are the OCZ Vertex 2 on the market now running on 25nm 64Gbit chips or 25nm 32Gbit chips? If say i get the slower 25nm 64Gbit drive, can i RMA it to the 32Gbit chips? i know OCZ are swapping the drives for overseas customer.. not sure about our Malaysia side.
*
Yes you can swap. The only catch is, you'd have to pay the courier fee.

Just got myself the OCZ agility 2 60gb version. My P/N is OCZSSD2-2AGTE60G Is this the dreaded "E" series ? I've checked with crystal disk info, couldn't find out if its 25nm or 32nm. Will be running the benchmark on it soon to find out if its performance is reasonable or not. Do notice that the entire system is very much faster for loading of windows or any other applications. Using it in a laptop with AHCI enabled in the bios.

I wanna ask all otai here:

--  According to the forum in OCZ, was adviced to disable page file or put it under control at "2048". Is this advisable or just disable it entirely ?
--  Currently utilizing only 45% of it with all my required apps installed. Temp reading is 30C in CrystalDiskInfo.
--  What else i need to enable or disable ?
Everling: do u have any sample benchmark readings from the crystal disk mark ? I've search thru this thread and found not much of the readings from laptops.

Seems like the Agility series is not affected.

IIRC it is called OCZ Toolbox, the latest version. It is also used to update the firmware. Have you updated to 1.32?

Don't know about other brands, but the latest OCZ Toolbox allows you to update even if it's a bootdrive.

edit:
Actually not the latest toolbox. It was ALREADY doable in version 2.31. Latest one is 2.39

It's doable on '2' series.
