Wouldn't the 160GB be cheaper, hovering around RM1k?
*
i was hoping for a RM400 80GB G3...... cry.gif
Now my i'm left with either the F60 or the 80GB G2 cry.gif

New tech and cheaper than G2 when it launched.
I would say the prices are reasonable. Most importantly is reliability as compared to other brands. U wont go wrong with Intel.
*
bro,i wanna ask something, the X-18M G2 uses a SATA or microSATA connector actually?

Yeah, there is that. G1 to G2 was a 50% price drop. This isn't remotely near.
It's micro-SATA.
*
well,i guess i'll go for a G2 instead,found awesome deals for the 160gb x18m g2 in the garage sales section. drool.gif

based on performance,Crucial>Intel>Kingston
based on price,Crucial<Intel<Kingston

imo you might as well wait if you have around RM750 to spend as a 120GB Vertex 3 should be around that price and it totally wipes the floor with the other SSDs.
On the other hadn,if you don't mind getting an OEM SSD,you can get the Intel X25M/X18M G2 160GB rather cheaply at RM430-600

Intel 320 80GB SSD (G3) Review
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n...om%2F14414.html

dissappointing....still slower than first gen Sandforce...
From some more digging i found that the controller is still the G2's controller,so it's just a G2 with 25nm chips....
and i waited like 5 months for this......

QUOTE(raist86 @ Mar 25 2011, 02:58 PM)
hmm.... so those seller selling OEM units got no manufacturer warranty la?

Added on March 25, 2011, 4:01 pmReally thinking about the pros and cons now.. cos RM 750.. i can get 2 pcs 2 tb drives...

Will be using for OS, couple games and photo/video editing work... however, bulk of my data (photos and videos) all will be stored on my current 1TB samsung F3..
Will i see an improvement on the speed and ease of work? or will it be a waste of money?
*
IMO at RM750 i'll take a new Corsair F120 instead, but if it's at around RM400 then go for it since Intel SSDs are known for their reliability and robustness.
Anyway here's my OEM X-18M G2 160GB's speed, bought it for RM4XX only in the garage sales section brows.gif

actually what's the difference between the x25 and x18 arr?

X18 at RM 400++ is very tempting.
*
X25M G2 = 2.5" form factor,similar in size to laptop HDDs
X18M G2 = 1.8" Form factor thus you'll need a converter to convert from microsata to sata, the converter is around RM45+-
In terms of speed they are the same

I just need to get the mini sata to sata converter rite? Do I need to use the RM 150 1.8" to 2.5" converter sold by the seller?
*
the RM150 one is better looking,but i just use a RM45 one memkingdom sells,it does convert 5v to 3.3v

Guys... I'm a bit noob in the Gen 3 SSD news. So if anyone roughly know the answer, pls let me know.

When will the Gen 3 SSD release? Cause I'm planning to get it along with the Sata 3 PCIE convertor. Thanks.

And some people mentioned the price will be skyrocket, but some said the price is almost same as gen 2... Which one should i believe?
*
a Vertex 3 120GB SSD is relatively cheap at 249USD,but it's not sold yet.Even the Intel 510 isn't sold here yet.

Do you have any idea when will it release? And also it seems like I'm unable to get PCIE sata 3 card anywhere T__T
*
Can't say for sure since SSDs aren't like CPUs,their market is small here thus it might take a while.

you're not losing anything imo, your F60 is cheaper and faster while should last longer than an Intel 320 SSD....

Anyone know where can i buy microsata to sata converter/adapter?
*
memkingdom sells them,be wary though as on some systems it won't work [at least that's what the SSD seller told me happened to his other customer]
QUOTE(hanny562 @ Apr 2 2011, 04:39 PM)
thinking to get x18-m 160GB...will the convertor cause sideeffect like slowing down the ssd?
*
it shouldn't affect the speed based on my experience.

i can get intel x25 very cheap...biggrin.gif

should i buy?

guys is it worth to get the 160GB X18M SSD with converter for RM500 nowdays? wanna get it for my lappy..
*
If you're fine with the fact that the warranty is short then yes,it's worth it.The write speeds may be slow but the read speeds are not to shabby even when compared to 2011 SSDs.The capacity is also large icon_rolleyes.gif

Write speed may be slow?

i dont really mind about the warranty since its durable ..i hope so lol.
*
Reliability is a strong suit of Intel SSDs,I wouldn't worry too much about it.About the write speeds, these SSDs can only do around 100MB/s of sequential and random writes, definitely not blistering fast.

the x18m unit?

how about the speed?

will i able to feel the performance boosted if i upgrade from a 7.2k hdd?
*
Yeah, the X-18M G2 160GB.The difference is like night and day.The PC only takes less than 40s from when I press the power button to a usable desktop.FF4 only takes 2s compared to around 6s for a standard desktop 7200RPM HDD.MS Word 2010 takes 2s from the usual 8s.I can go on and on but you ge the idea, right? It's fast.My usage model favour reads over writes so I'm not affected by the slowness of the G2's write speeds. icon_rolleyes.gif
