Yes,controller is one of the biggest factor that affect SSD speed smile.gif

I am not sure about that one..the read write speed is about 250/70 only (correct if wrong)
I am thinking that he should get the Corsair F60 @ RM650 with a read write of 285/275..
I am still waiting feedback on the Corsair F60 w/ SandForce controller..I am thinking of getting it if got positive response in this thread
*
Well, that is part of the story tongue.gif
One thing you overlook is Random Read/Write smile.gif
Intel X25M might lost in term of bandwidth but is still quite a fast SSD and price is reasonable for what it is smile.gif
If you can wait through,G3 coming up soon and shall drop the price of SSD quite a bit due to use of 25nm NAND Flash Chip
25nm NAND shall be out sometime in Q4 2010 smile.gif

hmmm... stilll can't decide this....

Corsair F60 or Intel X25-M g2 80gb

well F60's slightly cheaper, but i'm unsure of sandforce's stability with the current chatter on its controller
intel x25m 80gb seems like more bang for buck, given the extra 20gb~~~

anyone can help me out here?
thanks
*
Well..one way or another..it will be a very significant jump from non SSD smile.gif

Fuu, a Harddrive for 1,280 @_@
can i take 10 200 GB HDD  raid 0 and see who win?
*
It's not about sequential speed dude
SSD biggest strength is in Random Read/Write,that why your system feel fast and more swift with ssd when compared to HDD

hey, guys, i'm considering ssd but i dont know if it does make a big difference for me. with the money spent on ssd, i could also get a better cpu or gpu. please help me! which component do you think i should spend on?

i am a architectural student. the programs i use are photoshop, autocad and 3dsmax.
*
Depend on what sort of spec you have ATM
If all aspect of your pc is good enough for you then SSD is a well justified upgrade biggrin.gif

I realize that even you dont want to install game in SSD, yet it will still force you to. I have 60GB SSD drives, but spend like 8gb on games. Why? Cause those DLCs, facepack etc are force to install in my documents. sad.gif
*
Why would you not install game on SSD?laugh.gif
The whole point of buying SSD is to install game/application to let it load in lightning pace in the first place biggrin.gif
60GB shall be good enough for basic application + 2 games or so

Errr....i guess you have the secondary storage controller enable as IDE mode
Try changing that to AHCI mode or disable it if you does not plug anything on the secondary storage controller smile.gif

You mean 20-25 seconds from pressing power button into OS?
Anyway, did you install the OS with AHCI mode?

I think it's using the SATA2 SSD and thus deliver the speed of 260MBps.

The new Macbook AIR is running on a Sandy Bridge system.
SATA3 SSD should be supported.
It would be a beast if SATA3 SSD is used.
*
TBH,i really a bit doubtful about the difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3 for SSD other then Sequential Read/Write laugh.gif

Thanks for the reply. Understand now.
Seems like the only benefit we get from SSD is transfer speed huh.
*
The biggest advantage of SSD is random access time which will make your pc feel faster
The sequential read/write is just a bonus tongue.gif

I am looking for a decent SSD.

My budget is about RM1,000. I am ok if it exceeds the budget by RM100 to Rm200.

Definitely looking for 2.5 inch type ones.

Thanks.

i've heard if u defrag ssd the lifespan will be short.
is it true?

Yes
SSD does not need defrag because it is not using mechanical disk anymore biggrin.gif
Best way is to use TRIM

Sandforce controller based SSD still not recommended? Was thinking of the slight advantage they have with SATA3.

Edit: What about Corsair Force Series 3?
*
Sandforce SATA 2 not much reported issue
The one with issue one is SATA 3
As for Force Series 3,the budget is not enough to get one unit tongue.gif
