hey guys

want to check with you all...

will my ssd performance be better if it hook it up to a SAS/SATA controller that runs off the PCIE bus ? cause ill be skipping the SouthB controller..

will that give me better performance margin by running it out from the sas/sata controller than my SB sata port

-

oh another question.. which is the best SSD in terms of performance nw ?

vertex 2 ? or intel x25m ? or is it those force ssd from corsairs ?

I just wanted to share this info from my own installation.
I got the 40GB Vertex 2 SSD
With just basic Windows 7 Ultimate, Firefox, windows update, i have used about 17GB of space. I have moved my documents, games and my profile contents to another drive to conserve space. It works but I am beginning to feel strained everytime I install, have to watch where i install it, how much space left in the SSD drive.
*
how you move and still keep windows consistant ? if the hdd holding yr profile crashes will yr win7 ultimate still able to boot ? and recreate a new profile ?

you bringing it in ?? but somehw the price isn't that competitive.. they throw out a sata controller should be cheaper right

eh wait.. is it native PCIE until the memory chips or pcie > sata raid controller > mem chips ?

QUOTE(pergilahsayang @ Jan 5 2011, 12:58 AM)
Walau this one faster than crucial Sata 3  shakehead.gif

as far as i am concerned, getting 200MBps write on your benchmark only serves to enlarge your e-peen.

i thought it will make my windows and games load faster smile.gif hehehehe

I have a question, got a new Corsair Force F60 but wanting to update its firmware to 2.0. With nothing inside the SSD (still smells like the shop), I need to install the OS first then update right? Or is there another way of doing so without adding anything to it.

I think it's a pretty stupid question hahaha.
*
plug it into a pc that has windows.. then install the updating software and update it ?

then clone over the windows and set the bios boot device correctly and good to go

Actually, that was what I am going to try after work.  rclxms.gif

I'm not going to clone Windows to it though, as I'm using this drive for a new laptop.

Thanks!
*
ive no idea why my pc is running windows off the ssd but my upgrade program cannot detect the ssd.. hahahaha

why don't they make a 1tb ssd drive with the same speed as normal hdd, but compensate it with tremendous power savings + low heat ??

If we use a 10W HDD 24/7/365, it will only cost us RM19.11 per year. Reducing that to a 0.1W SSD will only cost you RM0.19 per year. Not much of a saving considering how expensive SSDs can get.

And the biggest cost bottleneck is the cost of the flash memory. Assuming it is RM2.50/GB (cheapest known retail is above RM5.00/GB) that would still cost you RM2,500/terabyte. We're not going to see cheap 1TB SSDs any time soon.
*
well that sux to know we won't see a cheap 1tb ssd anytime soon...

guess the rotating disc are here to stay for a long long time

On a side note and for reference, Anand (of AnandTech) observes that he used an average of 7GB of writes per day and that he was the heaviest writer within the people of AnandTech.

If Moore's Curves holds out for the next ten years and Flash's program/erase cycle count remains at a reasonable level, we will probably see a 1TB SSD going for less than RM200 before 2020.
*
i wonder what he used to "observe" his writes onto his SSD drive...

but then it seems that the shrinking for the flash chips has come to a technology bottleneck they can't shrink it further below 20nm with out scarificing the quality of the chip...

by 2020 1tb ssd won't mean much cause hdd might reach 6gb per disk...

and also... 1 pc can have max 7 pcie slots.. unless they find a way to chuck 4tb ssd into 1 pcie slot.. then it would be good

else there isnt just any place to put enough storage for storing all the stuff

does start up program will effect the boot speed??if we put the start up program on hdd...
