Whats wrong when unplugged it when its full? i don't like my charger cable dangle around my feet. Is it that is the purpose of chargers, to charge ur battery, so when its full, i just unplugged it and go to my living room without the charger. When its low, just plugged it back in my room and leave it to full charge. I love 1996, 90's rock man!!

shouldnt current generation laptops have a circuit breaker of some sort to stop the flow of electricity to the battery once it's charged?

I charge my MBP every night because I need a full battery the next day. So it doesn't matter if it's all gone or 25% or 50% or 75%, I still have to charge it. Probably not too good for the battery but no choice otherwise it might not get me thru the day.

that is why apple suggest to do calibration at regular interval. same goes to all li-ion products. run the coconut, or else check the battery condition after 3-4 years or usage ..provided the battery still can run.

major concept is to optimize the usage, instead of maximize/minimize.

From Apple's article :-
QUOTE
The battery may appear to stop charging between 93 percent and 99 percent.

QUOTE
The batteries used in these computers are designed to avoid short discharge/charge cycles in order to prolong the overall life of the battery.

Try reboot your Mac with the original OS disk. Skip the install process, click on UTILITIES, Disk Utility at the very top menu.
Run the Verify and Repair process

Worst scenario - reinstall the OS if above cannot work
Delete your partition, create a new one, reboot the computer, and then install mac os. If still unable to boot, probably hard disk failure

If you are switching from windows : http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/

mac Basics : http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/

You are asking a general and vague question which there are too many answers. Why dont you read above links first and then asked the relevant question

Looks like the MBP isn't detecting the HD. Might be a bad HD.

Do you get a flashing folder with question mark if you wait long enough?
Do you get the Apple logo?
Can you boot in Verbose mode to see what's wrong?
As benny888 suggested, try booting from the DVD and running disk utility.

But if you have important data, better take out the HD and recover it on another computer before doing anything else.

Can you boot from the DVD if you remove the HD? If not, could be motherboard problem.

Don't think it'll help but can also try to reset the PRAM.
