hi...im a new owner of a mbp. had it for 3 days now. still learning the ropes.
my sis bought it in australia using her govt grant. so i've got some questions.

what is the best way for the battery to last long. ie shut down or sleep. im just worried about leaving it plugged because of lightning. will usually unplug everything at night.

If you're worried about lightning strikes and already unplug your electronics regularly, then the question is: why bother changing your habits?

No problems guys on the info, I pass down the info as I've learnt it the hard way, was lucky it didn't kill my electronics totally.

To the post by rheza02, you have been reported for subtle trolling. I've observed that you've been trolling another forum member, Edoras for his choices and preferences and stuck your trollbaits in your signature. Now you're moving on with the term "Ultimate" being used in context with the new MBAs. For everyone's info, the term "Ultimate" was coined to differentiate between the many available different configs available for both the 11.6" and 13.3", to facilitate recognition of which model buyers are interested in. I dont care for your mocking tone when it comes to this term, as well as your post not adding anything useful to the discussion.

I also believe that the community here has more common sense than using /k/ style sentences like "kthxbai". Your post reeks of trollbait.

I leave it to the moderators to judge this. If I'm over-reading into all this, mods please point me out and I'll accept.

Why only you can call it ultimate ?, I also going to order My MBA tommorow, Whats wrong for asking a suggestion ?. It will be great if i can call it Ultimate like you call your macbook air. I'm not asking suggestion for my signature also.

I also leave it to moderators to judge this.

Thanks.

I did not call it "Ultimate", read my post. It was a term coined by the Apple Store Geniuses to identify the max configuration MBAs. You don't have to be sarcastic and add "Extreme Ultimate", when "Ultimate" is already the highest config.

Neither do you have to be crass and troll Edoras either.

A stroke of lightning discharges up to several hundred million volts of electricity. Even though you using power regulator+surge protector it still can jump over to your power lines. So the safe is make your habit to unplug when you didn't used it.

I Guest it, because of your external harddisk formatted for windows machine, which is NTFS. Try format your external harddisk fo FAT32. So u can read and write in windows or mac. There is no official support from apple, to enable writing any data to your NTFS Harddisk.

open Disk Utility (use spotlight), select ur external hd on the left, to go Erase tab, pick format: FAT32 then click on Erase

the limitation of fat32 drives is u cannot store a single file that is larger than 4gb. no problems for folders, but not files

or u can just install ntfs-3g (free) to enable ntfs support. the transfer speed is really slow though. for faster speed u might wanna get tuxera ntfs or paragon ntfs, both are paid software. im using paragon NTFS n it works well smile.gif

edit: can we have a sticky for this? it's an understandable problem for new mac users

Hi, just enquiring a few things about the macbook pro.

What things am I going to lose from switching to MAC? Can I still download songs and movies? Is flash non-existent in any browser I use? Can I, say, drag and drop random files from MAC to pendrive or phone and vice versa?

The Macbook (Pro) boots up much faster if you set it to sleep, rather then shutting it down entirely. During Sleep mode, the power use is minimal, so much so that you don't need to keep it plugged in in order to use the laptop the next morning.

ZOMG The Mac OSX is super restrictive! If you use Macs, you have to swear to vegetarianism! You can't wear anything but black turtlenecks and blue jeans! You have to bald, on top of everything!

... Sorry, was this question a serious one?

i'll leave it on sleep mode and unplug it...but will shut down if not using for a long period of time which i think will not happen.

Somehow I don't like the design of the Magsafe for the new MBA...
I prefer the way they design for the MBP etc.
Not sure why Apple design it that way.
This photo below is taken with an older MBA but it looks almost the same..

i dont know where u got those ideas. why do u think macs cannot download songs, movies, cannot play flash n cannot drag drop?

all those can do lah. i guess the only limitation is no bluray. and no '3D screen' or gimmicky face-recognition login if that's ur thing
