Hey everyone, I need to ask you guys a question, hope you guys can give your opinion.

I am running SC2 on :
Core 2 Duo e6550 2.33GHZ
4GB Ram
512MB ASUS EN8800GT TOP

I can play the game fine on high settings, slightly laggy on ultra settings but
during missions whereby you have to defend a certain object or base from swarm and swarm of
enemies, my FPS drops by a bit for both settings especially on BRUTAL difficulty.

If I were to upgrade a component, which one should I upgrade?
Should i get Core 2 Duo E7500 2.9GHZ
or 896MB GTX260 ?
I can only afford one at the moment.

I was thinking about getting the GTX260 however I am afraid my processor would be a bottleneck therefore
limiting the power of the 260.

I think its pointless to upgrade your from a C2D to another C2D. Overclock it instead and save your money on a better graphic card in the future.

Just play on high.

So I should the gtx260 instead? Well I cant overclock it because my motherboard has a locked multiplier sadly.
And Dual Cores perform better than Quad Cores in Sc2

A locked multiplier, you can still adjust the FSB what. Unless your motherboard are those from Dell, Compaq, Intel etc.

No, you don't upgrade your processor just for playing SC2 alone. If you're gonna upgrade, make it well spent, go for a high-speed quad core but that's your money.

I don't understand how dual-core procs performs better, if you have equal speed, you might not be utilizing the extra cores on the quad-cores but definitely not slower.

A powerful graphic card might be what you need, or play in lower settings.

Well thanks for your reply.
According to Techspot, here is the link
http://www.techspot.com/review/305-starcra...nce/page13.html

Quad cores ( excluding i3, i5, i7 ) run terrible on SC2. The speed (GHz) is that matters.

Regarding FSB, I cant get any higher than 2.8 GHz, even that is pretty unstable so yeah

If I were in your case, I'll try to get a 2nd hand GTX260.

Make sure you can actually trust that person.

Alright, I did some overclocking, I managed to increase my core to 3.0 ghz. Izit still viable to get the gtx260, will it still be a bottleneck

A gtx260 is cheaper than a 5770 and it performs better according to most benchmarks.
the only reason to choose 5770 is maybe errr dx11

imo, an ugrade on the graphic card would be a better choice than to upgrade to another C2D...

i think u should just OC your proc.
Mine is C2D 2.8Ghz and managed to OC til 3.8Ghz.

While for GPU, GTS250 would be just fine for all ultra-high settings.
Nway, your 4Gig RAM is a good advantage of the game. It can improve loading time coz will use less swap space.

1) improve your RAM. If more than 2GB would be better.
2) buy a superfast Hdisk..

Hi,

I believe graphic card still play major vital role for gaming, even cpu also important. But since your CPU on 3 GHZ, i believe thats really sufficient and getting a super fast graphic card would be your best choice. Just ensure that the card have sufficient ram for you to run in the best reso your monitor support. Nowadays, standard mem for graphic card is 1GB.

Memory for graphic card isn't really critical.

It's the speed of the GPU that matters.
