i actually do this kind of defensive placement a lot...
its somewhat the bisu build of sc1 where u have 1 cannon near ur nexus to cover ur mineral line and def with 1-2 zealots accordingly...
it is also safer vs baneling/ reapers/ 2gate openings...

u need to micro ur mutas to bundle up and keep moving...
and u need a larger critical mass nw as they'll auto spread out...
so ur snipe must be 1-2 shot...

somehow it makes me so happy of the low number of zergs so we dun get ZvZ (0 ZvZ in GSL1 LOL)...
TvT (the new age not the tank viking borefest) > PvP > ZvZ in terms of entertainment value haha...

the best way is to know when it is timing for u to pump speedlings and combo with ur spine to def it...

one of the way i've been using to beat 4 gates are to make a proxy hatch to create a psuedo choke (around ur natural) with 2-3 spine crawlers and speedling micro...

u are kinda mistaken...
a 4-gate is only a all-in depending on ur compo...
2 stalker = 2 zealot 1 sentry...
usually vs zerg, toss go for heavy zealot sentry thus its nt all-in...
if his stalker count is high then its an all-in...

if the 4gate is early (around 30food) its more of an all-in compared to roughly a 40food 4gate push...

best way to def 4gate is to go 3 hatch with spine (1main, 1natural, 1semi choke hatch with spines placed nicely near it)...
drone up until u see his 4 gate move out then pump speedlings...
the trick is to balance ur larvae for drone and units so u are ahead when u hold off the 4gate...

note: before roach buff

roach on creep are faster thus u should be spreading creep to a certain distance at least...
and stop move micro > atk speed (slower = easier to micro and bigger focus fire burst)

as we saw from idra in this morning's MLG, the roach's 4 range allow u to be offensive vs the toss...
micro ur roach to shoot the buildings from a safe distant and force and engagement...
if u see he starts to go stalker heavy, some speedlings for surround + roaches would be deadly...

dun try to go after the stalkers...
pull back, and poke buildings from time to time...
force an engagement where the stalkers cant kite...

its a rooting ability so ur baneling can jz roflstomp them...
not to mention dealing dmage + wasting their stim if u chose not to engage...
vs air, jz fungal into infested terrans (/lol vikings and medics)

roaches are in fact the best counters to thor due to their mobility (especially with speed) and cheap cost compared to thors...
focus firing can drop a thor so fast...
