LOL yuva, it's KLCC LRT station, bro. Exit the station and head to Megan Avenue building.

I'm in. I've just received my own beautiful Huawei e585 with OLED screen, this time, you guys can test it out to your heart's content. This was the "secret device" I brought to the very first iPad Gathering in The Gardens last time, and I had to decline shots of it taken because of the agreement I've made with my "insider" as it is still in testing phase in Maxis.

Our venue in Megan Avenue is graciously provided by our good friend Bikesh of iTrain http://www.itrain.com.my. The venue location should be of the classroom environment, airconditioned and roomy. At least this time, we have a venue of our own, and have our own discussion in proper location. Cheers to Bikesh for this! notworthy.gif

So from me, I'll be bringing the iPad Joule stand, Waterfield stuff, Huawei e585 OLED, Novatel Wireless MiFi (for sale, since I'm using the e585), and if there are any need for extra micro sim cutter, I can bring mine. As for the software side, I've tons more apps for both the iPhone and iPad I have recently purchased. This time, since I'm on VPN already, attendees can try ABC Player live video streaming of ABC network TV show episodes, Hulu Plus for the iPad, and Pandora music streaming service! Those into Astronomy can try out this cool app called Distant Suns. I also have received and accepted into the Flipboard service, so you can try that out on my iPad. Tons of new games like Monkey Island 2: Special Edition, MultiPong, Zen Bound 2 HD, Sim City Deluxe, plus Retina-optimized games such as Archetype, Jet Car Stunts and Hero of Sparta 2! Also games on SD like Let's Golf 2! and Konami Pro Evolution Soccer for iPhone. If into photography I have purchased Hipstamatic ap with all its in-app lenses, films and photo-developing extras. You'll get to try these out when you come this 5th! biggrin.gif

Cheers to Yuva for stepping up to become this month's Gathering organizer! rclxms.gif

Added on August 2, 2010, 9:54 pmAddendum: Another interesting aspect of iPad-iPhone connectivity is the iPad Camera Connection Kit that is hardly been talked about. I can bring my Panasonic GH1 together with the Cam Kit and iPad/iPhone, we can try out the connectivity options between these devices. Those with other cameras can come and try it out, I have a spare WiFi iPad that can be used as a test slate for you to see how seamless the process is to transfer, view and analyze your shots on the iPad.

It is after 6pm onwards, so it caters to the working people as well. Ample parking space, and good food court across the Yap Kwan Seng street to cater for hunger after the Gathering. tongue.gif

Ahh, cool. Missed it. tongue.gif

If you wanna add, my Panasonic DMC-GH1 Micro Four Thirds camera will be there. Don't wanna turn this into a photography Gathering, but people still will get a chance to see the 1080p30 Full HD video recording on this thing. biggrin.gif

I kept on getting the impression that MEgan Avenue is near Jalan Yap Kwan Seng instead of the actual location pictured on the map. Sorry guys, my apologies. The one near Yap Kwan Seng is Megan Avenue II, the one near to Ampang PArk is Megan Avenue I, so the closest LRT station is in fact Ampang Park, and Yuva, you were right. My apologies again.

@Tink,
You got DM back.

EDITED yet again, I swapped the two positions. Thanks Yuva.

I've extended an invitation to the big boss of MacStudio when I was there at their place just now. He just received his iPhone 4, so it's a good start to get him up and running on his new baby. Also extended the same invitation to the nice chap I sold my 16GB iPhone 4 to, he's working at KopiClub Low Yat Plaza. He was ecstatic beyond words when I gave him his hard-earned iPhone 4 and congratulated him. I'm happy I can make good people like these happy. smile.gif

P/S: I can bring my Beats Solo HD Product [RED] for your audio auditioning pleasure as well. The soundstage is phenomenal on this one. Yuva, can you add that in the list? Cheers!

We never segregate. All is welcomed. However, there are no guarantees that folks attending the Gathering will continue with their current device or dumping them for Apple. tongue.gif

Yuva, you can add another gadget to make an appearance tomorrow. Look who's coming to the Gathering tomorrow!!

Yes, the fiercest competitor to the iPhone 4 is coming to the Gathering tomorrow. Enter the Dell Streak! Exclusive hands-on the Dell Streak for attendees! rclxms.gif

I'll be bringing this together with my Logitech diNovo Mini so that you can use it just like how this article on Engadget make it look like it is a match made in heaven! biggrin.gif

P/s: I have to guard this with my life. It is not my unit and it's going back to its owner once tomorrow's Gathering concludes.

urgh too bad i definitely cant join today's gathering coz after work i've futsal training.. sad.gif

It's not my phone, bro. The owner wants it back after tonight's Gathering.

My experience with it is that it is certainly nice to have a screen this huge, but to me, a screen this huge must be accompanied by a resolution as fantastic as well. I'm spoiled by the Retina Display, so looking at Streak's 800 x 480 display, it's a downgrade.

For its thickness, or "thinness", it is certainly thin. iPhone 4 is 9.4mm thin, while the Streak clocks in at 9.9mm. You can certainly slip it into your jeans pocket, but not those tight kinds.

Build quality, I still prefer the iPhone 4. Glass over stainless steel over glass, compared to glass over shiny plastic over matte plastic at the back. Dell did a good effort on masking the shiny plastic to blend in with the Gorilla Glass to make it look like it is one smooth surface though.

But the most important aspect to me, despite all these physical or cosmetic differences is the OS & content delivery system. I left the Android OS last time when I owned the HTC Hero for a short while before I sold it off and got back to my 3G[S], and the same reason why I sold it off still applies the same case here with the Dell Streak. The OS is second to iOS4, made even more painfully true when the Streak still sports the three-generation-old OS compared to the latest iOS4 on the iPhone. I could probably revisit this when Froyo is available for the Streak, but I'd imagine it not being a wholly different experience. But the content delivery system is still horrible compared to the iPhone. I believe to be able to purchase apps from the Android Market requires rooting, and that alone may not sit right with a casual owner. Sure, you can get tons of free apps but "you get what you pay", the apps aren't polished enough to be able to compete with what I'm used to on the iOS4.

Other little things? Streak's Dual LED is pathetic compared to iPhone 4' single LED. Illumination is poor, even with both LED on. Picture resolution may be 5 Mpx, but picture quality-wise, the iPhone 4 trumps it again. That backside illumination sensor on the iPhone 4 does wonder in lowlight situation. Don't get me started on the video recording resolution, 640x480 compared to iPhone 4's HD resolution of 1280 x 720, not to mention the built-in editing on the iPhone 4 itself.

Music library management is also superior on the iPhone 4, and presentation is supreme on the iOS4 as well. You get "circa 2000" thumbnail gallery on the Streak, compared to full-screem cover artwork with Coverflow on the iOS4. For some reason, the Streak does not accept H264 videos I have, it will not play them. The Streak takes WMV though, but for me, that point is moot since I have long ago moved from other alternative movie formats like WMV or RMVB.

The rest, I leave it to the guys at the Gathering to judge. I may have tempered your expectations a bit by posting about these deficiencies on the Streak, but seriously, even folks who are still on the iPhone 3G, with the old OS 3.x would have a better experience than on the Android 1.6. Android diehards would have screamed "wait for Froyo, then review again, damnit!", but this is a hotly contested space, there is no margin for error, and when it comes to competing with the iPhone 4, there certainly is none. The hardware may be superior in some form, but the software which forms the main bulk of your experience with the Streak, is disappointing to say the least.

I'm not sure if anyone took any pics at all. It was a full-on discussion session going on, and if there are any pics, the attendees took it for their own use, not to take pics of everyone else. For example, I remember TakanoKyohei's cousin was there and he took pics of the gadgets there, not the attendees.

String,

The streak is a phone and I believed it is made in China right? Read somewhere about it from Endgadget or BGR. How does the magic trackpad works? Better than a mouse even the Apple mighty mouse or it is for a different function alltogether.

In China it is known as Dell Mini 5. Everything's made in China these days. tongue.gif

I think the next iPhone/iPad gathering, we need to establish a way to exchange contacts with each other, and even if I'm late to the party, I've discovered Bump for the iPhone.

Bump (it's a free app) solves the need to transfer contacts(phone contacts, Twitter and Facebook), pictures, even calendar events with another iPhone user, by simply bumping the two iPhones together. The app is also available on Android platform, and work across the two platform. The devices needs to be connected on a network though, either WiFi or 3G.

That is for the next gathering! biggrin.gif
