Hi, noob in rooting desire here.

Since now unrevoked support our htc desire, i plan to root it because it's so simple now. however there are some concern:

1. If i only do unrevoked rooting (following it's instruction in xda-developer), will my apps/settings/data in phone memory lost?

2. can anyone teach me how to restore my desire back to original state so i can receive OTA froyo updates later on when it is available?

3. any software/apps that can backup entire phone memory image, so i just only need restore that image file and all operating system/settings/apps/data automatically restored.

Many thanks!

2. Flash with the RUU - RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.19.707.7_Radio_32.36.00.2 8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126179_signed.exe. Link here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667

Thanks for the clear reply. So the problem where HBOOT 0.80 unable to downgrade to HBOOT 0.75 RUU is solved? or it's not a concern here?

As i understand, to Flash with the RUU mentioned above i just need to run the exe and get the zip file in PC and put it in phone SD card, use the Clockwork recovery and flash with that zip file right?

Wow, it just that easy! Many thanks samurai1337 & akachester

Regarding flashing Radio, i saw some guide asking to connect to USB, run a BAT file to push recovery image and only flash the radio zip file.

is the above step not needed anymore because of the new unrevoked method can permanently set the recovery?

so what is the exact step now to flash a radio if i use the ClockworkMod Recovery that comes default with unrevoked rooting method?

Since flashing Radio is very dangerous and can brick phone, any tips to avoid that tragedy?

btw, does flashing official RUU will also restore the Recovery (from clockworkMod -> default) ? is there anything else which installing official RUU won't restore to default?

what radio you guys use?
some say latest - 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 got some issue, better use 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08.

I wonder which is the better choice for custom Froyo rom to match with our carrier, i'm Maxis.

Do i need to full boot my phone after flashing a ROM before flashing new radio?

for full boot i mean, boot my phone until a point where i can make calls.

i afraid if i boot up new ROM with old radio, it will confuse when i flashed a new radio and cause some problem.

depends if you're downloading a signed ROM i guess

If it is a signed ROM and verification failed, means there's something wrong with your download.

i get the radio here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464

is the radio here signed?

I wanted to flash to NeoPhyTe Mod v1.7.1 Sense-FroYo 2.2 instead, i got a question..

since this ROM uses app2sd automatically, can i force install some apps like widgets to phone memory?

i don't want things to breakdown when i connect my phone to pc as usb storage.

For a2sd+ at least (never use the old a2sd), connect to pc as usb storage is NOT affected - widgets, apps still intact

It's only affected if you use froyo native a2sd
*
oh yeah it won't affect when plug in USB because the ext partition is mounted separately from sdcard...

i notice you quite support nextsense ROM, why you favor it over NeoPhyTe ROM? both froyo with sense UI from same developer.

Original theme is the one that resembles stock HTC bar

NextSense theme is the one with transparent bar

Other than that not much difference I think
*
damn! just used 5.1 it for few hours... now 5.2 lol, so far so good.
btw, did you notice red and green line on the slide to answer bar in nextsense 5.1?

and how to set the setCPU to save battery? just down-clock it thats all?

Ya same. a little blur regarding this.
*
From http://www.pokedev.com/setcpu/:
userspace- A method for controlling the CPU speed that isn't currently used by SetCPU. For best results, do not use the userspace governor.

yeah, still blur...

From http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/power-management-guide.xml:
The userspace governor makes no decision but chooses whatever the user (or a program in userspace) wants - which means it reads the frequency from /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed.

from here, it looks like somehow userspace and ondemand is the same thing in SetCPU because we also can explicitly set the min and max clock.

Guys, want to check something with you. When I try to restore my apps and data using Titanium Backup, it seems like it will restores everything back to my internal storage. Is there anyway to move everything to SD card?

I have partitioned it to FAT32 and also ext3 before flashing my ROM.

One more thing, it seems like I can't connect to my mobile network anymore after flashing the ROM.

Any idea???
*
if you have partitioned ext3 and use a ROM with A2SD+, it will automatically restore to your ext3 partition which is ur SD card.
