Do you guys know any desktop program that can organise the contacts in Desire's "phone" - one that can get all the phone contacts from phone, organised in desktop, then sync back to Desire. Something like the Palm Desktop. Android is too "cloud"-oriented. The contact format in Gmail is not the same as the format in the phone.

Or you have other workarounds? Like export to scv file then import back?

thanks. smile.gif

you can only do that with google contacts under your gmail > contacts on your pc.
*
but after doing that, there will be 2 sets of duplicate contacts both in "phone" and "google". All the contacts will show twice.

I use the scv export method to migrate all my Treo 680 contacts into Gmail contacts. Then sync it with my Desire at the first time to get the contacts into the phone. Thereafter delete ALL the google contacts coz annoyed by the duplicate contacts mentioned above.

Just to confirm - is the field name exactly the same for both in "phone" and Gmail's "contacts"? When i initially set it up it looks like not the same but I just check now and all the fields seem to be the same. rclxub.gif

Is there any way to tell whether the screen of the phone is AMOLED or SLCD just from the packaging? *might* purchase one with AMOLED screen instead of SLCD.
*
what i read from spore HTC forum:

On the box packaging, it will put behind the box under "Display" as:
"3.7-inch AMOLED touch sensitive screen" for AMOLED sets, and
"3.7-inch touch sensitive screen" for SLCD sets.

Apparently Spore latest batch of Desire all come with SLCD now. Luckily I bought mine fast last month. tongue.gif

There is a "rumor" about it coming in at the end of September. Still no news from HTC SEA. All they will say is "wait and be informed". LOL...Just root it. tongue.gif Its fun!

wtf.... end of September? I think I am not gonna wait for it forever. Time to ROOT my desire this weekend. Need to do research first before I root it - A2SD, A2SD+, cold card, etc, etc all these terms and all the different favours of ROM make me rclxub.gif .

ok, before I enter the dark side, some questions:

1. Is it more advisable to upgrade my storage card from the 2GB to 8/16GB before I root? As I understand, some rooting process will create partition on the card. So I can save some works if I upgrade my card first?

2. A2SD+ is better than A2SD from Froyo but A2SD+ is depend on rom?

These question might have asked before but this thread is moving so fast that the info has been fast buried. sweat.gif

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

yes, definitely I will upgrade my 2GB storage card. My question is should I get the upgrade now? If the migration from existing card to new card is as easy as just copy over than maybe I will wait further until the memory card price drop further. If I need to redo the whole process (or most of the process) again if I want to upgrade the card later, then I may want to get a new card now.

Is there a custom rom with SenseUI which is stable? The WhiteXperience above looks tasty but it does not have sense UI, right?

So the general steps:

1. Root the phone with Unrevoked.
2. Create partitions
3. Flash rom.

Correct? sweat.gif

Wow, you are really spoiling me, arent you? I might just do that once I get my 8gb kingmax (Class 10) micro sdcard.

I bought it for RM95 from a forumer name, leonlaitl. Then, yeokeeyie who was here recommended another cheaper one, RM80 from ebiz2u.
*
how's the performance of the card? Some say difference brand even some class will have difference performance. I think i am getting a 8GB too at the moment. 16GB class 10 a bit too expensive.

thanks, akachester and maliqu3, the guide at the blog is clear and easy to follow. Might want to try it now. Anyone know what's the speed of the 2GB microSD card come with our Desire, any way to test it? As the blog mention Class 4 and above is recommended for A2SD+.

yeah it's class 2
but read write can reach almost 4
anyway, fast enough for me
ext partition size is only 256 Mb tongue.gif
so left 1.6 Gb
still sufficient...for now!

thanks, that's the answer i am waiting for. Rooting my Desire soon.... laugh.gif

ok, i am downloading the relevant files now and should start the rooting process in a while... wish me good luck!! sweat.gif I think I will flash NextSense 5.3 at the moment since it has sense UI.

BUT before I do that, reading from maliqu's guide, I will need to backup using Titanium backup (this will backup all my data - sms, notes, etc., right?) but the guide din mention when shall I restore back the data. sweat.gif

Restore after you flash.
After flash rom, install back titanium backup and flash your data wink.gif
*
titanium backup will backup the data to the SD card? if so, later when doing the A2SD partition thing, the SD card will be wipe up or not?

Based on my understanding:

1. Run unrevoked to root the phone.
2. Run titanium to backup data.
3. Flash ROM.
4. Flash Radio.
5. Copy whatever in the SD card to computer.
6. Partition for A2SD.
7. Copy back the data in step 5 back to SD card.
8. Run titanium to restore back data.

Is this correct?

Just rooted my Desire... all went smoothly (using NextSense 5.3) without installing Amon Ra and thus no A2SD+. The phone boot up fine with everything in good order.

BUT when I want to restore app+all data from Titanium Backup, the phone pop up a msg saying the program is not responding or something - so Force Close, Wait or Cancel(this one I not sure), so I choose Wait and the screen go black but the hard buttons at the bottom lights up. Waiting about 10-15 minutes later, the screen won't reappear, but the buttons light up if i press them. At the end, take out the battery and do a hard reset.

Upon booting up my old sense UI appear but now almost every program got problem and system ask me to force close...zzzz

What to do now (before I do something stupid)? Any advice is much appreciated. smile.gif

EDIT: I notice the SD card is not wiped off completely.
