I guess they think it's easier for other people to call them and not worth the hassle to correct them. Or their parents gave it to them when it was the trend.

Anyway, having worked with lots of gwailo, I find that they usually make an effort to try to get your name right. There's no need to use an "English" name.

be4 in primary school, i got cainis fren name ng kok hong, i called him ah hong saja, but now, when saw him, panggil buat xtau saja, coz ppl call him gary liao, so jauh smile.gif ah hong sound nice wat.

There's an ex-kelik of mine, her name is Tay Ray Choo. She change her name to Rachel Tay so that it would be easier for our mat saleh kelik to pronounce her name. And I got lots of cainis frens who got english names, and their not even christian. I dun see any problem with that

i got a fren, Sim Chang Kui. a christian. he nvm others call him "Ah Sim", also he never bother to change name to be "cool"er.

my former boss Ang Chong Wah. also a christian and kiasulander. he doesnt even speak mandrn/canto/hokkie. also never bother to be "cool". his name suffice to identify himself.

When Indian and Melais dominate the global economy, maybe Chinese will put an Indian or Melais name in front of their name.
